Now that Lin Yang had just come back home, surrounded by so many villagers at his front door, he naturally had to share something with everyone. After all, his family was about to have two celebrations, and soon he would need to visit every house in the village to ask for help in preparations, so it was appropriate to distribute things.
The custom here was, no need for invitations for funerals but for celebrations, house visits were a must.
The rule was that if there was a funeral in the family, as a fellow villager, there was no need for the bereaved family to extend an invitation; it was upon the villagers themselves to voluntarily come and help.
But for joyous occasions, it was just the opposite, the host family must go door-to-door to invite people who would then help on the actual celebratory day.
Sure enough, Lin Yang's generous handout had the aunties and elderly women in the village grinning from ear to ear—who wouldn't be happy with gifts given for free?
