Little Ali sat cross-legged on the floor, building with blocks while occasionally frowning and glancing at Shen Zhaozhao, who was more of a hindrance than a help, sitting next to her.
The little one's expression was a serious exercise in patience.
Finally, when Shen Zhaozhao knocked over her carefully built blocks for the nth time, she couldn't withhold her irritation any longer and blurted out, "Can't you sit further away?"
"How am I supposed to play with you if I sit further away?" Shen Zhaozhao had no awareness of being a nuisance.
"I don't need you to play with me." The little one said with a nearly taut face.
She all but wrote the word "disdain" across her face.
"But I want to play with you," Zhaozhao blinked, deliberately teasing her.
The little one had mild autism, which had improved over the past few years after treatment, but she still didn't talk much.
