As autumn set in, the evening breeze carried a chill that made Jin Mo shiver. Her skirt only reached her calves, exposing her ankles, but the thin dress and shawl she wore offered no defense against the cold autumn wind.
Suddenly, Jin Mo felt overwhelmed by the exhaustion of living. She'd had all the luck in her early life, only to face all the suffering later on. If that was the case, she'd have preferred never to have had anything from the start.
Feeling icy all over, she hugged herself and walked aimlessly, her mind preoccupied with the thought that her grandmother was still waiting at home, and she needed to hurry back.
Out of the blue, a Bentley roared past, whipping up a cold gust of wind. Jin Mo cried out, feeling a pinprick sensation on her skin, standing there trembling in the chilly air.
The car stopped ahead. Illuminated by the headlights, Jin Mo recognized the license plate, halted abruptly in her tracks, and without hesitation, ran in the opposite direction.
