Chereads / Tears of Change / Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: The Ram

Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: The Ram

It's been three days since the God stayed, during the time he was guided by the boy who told the God to call him Aries. Aries asked what his name was, but the God didn't answer. So Aries left it be, and as the God follow him along the days, he learned a lot.

When the God observed the people he realized that they were hard-working and strong-willed. When it was very hot the men would go out and work on the now-growing fields, and the women would craft weapons from branches and rocks, and some young children would go on watch in case they were to be attacked by spirit animals. It seemed as if all of them had their purpose, no matter how small.

Today Aries brought the God to a seamstress named Futhur, who was delighted to be blessed by his presence. The God went into a room to change, as Aries waited he saw a symbol of a Ram on the old ladies' wall.

"Why do you have that"

"It's to bring me good life"

"How can you say that when it's a Ram taking the lives of our family right now."

Before Futhur could rebuke, the God came out of the room. Aries and Futhur heart skipped at his beauty, with his white silky hair and golden eyes, he made the dark color of brown bright.

"You are beautiful, I hope you bless this old lady by wearing my clothes again"

The God nodded to her, and Futhur smiled brightly. "Then I'll get started on your next clothes right away, Aries make sure he comes here again in two days. I'll make you some too."

"Alright! I will Lady Futhur"

"Lady" Futhur snorted laughing "oh you cheeky boy."

The God and Aries made their way out of Futhurs home when they heard a bell ring. DANGER DANGER DANGER

The kids who were on the lookout yelled. Upon hearing that, the older kids start to gather the young kids and put them into a shed underground. While the women start gathering weapons for the man. The men lined up in a straight line protecting the homes, while the women climbed on a hill they made, readying their arrows.

Aries dragged the God and told him to hide there safely. He watched as Aries grabbed an arrow with his tiny hands and lined up with the woman.

"Aries! Why aren't you with the other kids!" yelled the woman next to him "Go! NOW!"

"Too late I'm already here, I can shoot well."

The woman was about to refute him when they heard a hoove running towards them. Not only was it loud but it was so heavy that it shook the ground from its running, making them lose their balance a little bit. But as soon as they got their footing back they stood still and unmoving. The God came out from his hiding and stood behind them observing.

"Sisters, my life is with you," one of the women said, and the others replied the same.

"Aries if the demon comes close, I will get time for you to run. Do you understand, you must run if it gets close," The woman next to Aries said. Aries answered in a small voice, "Okay."

The God then sees the thing running towards them, it is similar looking to the goat Aries showed him a few days ago, except it had big horns on his head that curved to his ears.

"STEADY! THE DEMON IS COMING!" as the men yelled, they strengthened their spares out in front of them, and the Women ready their bows. The demon reached closer and let out a loud cry, as it was ten steps away from them, but before it could reach them the God got in front of it and blew it away. The demon got back up in surprise, and as the God took a step towards it, he was stopped by one of the men.

"No, let me go there and kill it. You might get hurt," the God looked at him in confusion but then noticed the rest also getting ready to do the same. He realized that they were worried for him, so he gently shook his hand and motioned with his hands to stay. "But-" the man was about to refuse, but the God had already teleported to the demon.

It growled at him, its eyes clouded in anger. As the God took a step closer to it, the demon tried to hit him with its horns. But the God made it freeze in place, unable to move, the demon accepted its fate. It closed its eyes reading to die, but the pain he thought he would feel never came instead what it felt was a gentle hand touching its head. He looked at the God, and then the God closed the distance between them putting his head on the demon.

The demon then felt a calming breeze in his head, and then it heard a voice.

"Why is it that you attack these people"

The demon was surprised that someone was communicating with him for a moment, then he asked the God, "Why is it that you protect these people"

The God answered without hesitation, "Because they have been kind."

"Kind...KIND!" the demon roared angrily, "THEY ARE NOT KIND! THEY ARE MONSTERS, DEMONS! NOTHING ABOUT THEM IS KIND!"

"Demons? But that is what they call you"

"How dare they! I am a Ram, proud and strong. How dare they compare me to some rotten evil."

"I see, you are a Ram, proud and strong. Yet you still haven't answered me, why is it that you attack these people"

The Ram stayed silent before answering in a broken voice, "They killed my brother, the land isn't like what it used to be. I was born six hundred years ago, there were many of us. But as more humans were born the land and waters started to dry, and we started to decline. It was ten years ago when my brother and I were out searching for water. We were attacked by them. My brother died but I lived, when I went to retrieve his body to honor him, I saw them celebrate," his body shook.

"I saw them, I saw them all grabbing my brother by his horns and waving his head around dancing and mocking him. I vowed then to get revenge, to show them no peace."

"I understand Ram, what you went through is terrible. You didn't deserve to have to watch your brother die."

"You understand," the Ram asked in a broken voice.

"Yes, I also know they don't deserve to have their life being controlled by fear of you."

"Then you don't understand"

"Ram...I saw," the God whispered, "I saw the memory of you killing the child."

The Ram froze in fear, "No, no, no, no, STOP! I didn't mean to, I didn't. The stupid child got in front of me, I knew they hid the children in the shed I never went there I didn't want to hurt the child I didn'tididn'tididn'tIDIDN'T! How was I supposed to know that she didn't go in the shed!"

"But Ram, what difference would that make? When she grows up you would have killed her too."

"Wha-no, I-, it's not-. No, stop, enough."

"Ram, dear Ram. Don't you see, the need for revenge has caused you to become a demon in their eyes"

"But it was them that made me become a demon. It's unfair for you to make me the monster."

"Then would you think it unfair if they took revenge on you for killing their people? The little girl that you killed was protecting her younger brother. Her brother lives but at the cost of his sister's life, and he lives in guilt and anger towards you. A child has vowed to avenge his sister."

"I told you I never meant to kill the child."

"The humans never meant to kill your brother"

The Ram glared at the God in anger, "What did you say."

"The lands and waters were dry, you guys weren't the only species to decline. The humans were hungry and came upon what they thought were goats. That night they saved five children, seven men, and four women who were on the brink of dying of starvation."

The Ram still glaring said, "You think telling me about how they ate my brother would weaken my resolve to get revenge."

"No, but your brother smiled that night."

"What..."

"At first his spirit was angry with what they had done to his body but then he heard a cry. A sound of life, he went near the cry and there he saw a baby boy the size of his paw. His anger vanished as he realized that his flesh gave the starving mother the strength to birth the little boy." The Ram's eyes started to get wet.

"That night, they weren't waving your brother's head around to mock him, it was to worship him. They loved him, then a day after that they mourned him. Even now after you have murdered their loved ones some still love your brother. I went to a home today and saw a symbol of your bother, I overheard her say it was to bring her a good life."

The Ram had tears coming from his eyes wetting his gray fur. The God undid his spell and unfroze him, but the Ram did not attempt to hurt him instead he laid down and cried. The God then hugged him.

"Give it to me, your burden and hatred. I will take it, all your guilt. I will mourn the people you have killed, for as long as I live, I will be the one to mourn them. I will mourn the brother you have lost for as long as I live. Let go, Ram, forgive them and forgive yourself. It will be me who mourns, just me. Forgive."

"I will" he wailed. "I'm sorry, I truly am."

The Ram had learned to forgive.
