Chapter 115 - The Dark Gate of Judgement

Kael's heart pounded in his chest as he stepped into the chamber, a vast, oppressive space where the shadows themselves seemed alive.

Flickering pools of silvery light offered only brief glimpses of his surroundings, casting jagged, shifting patterns on the stone floor. It was a place where darkness reigned supreme.

As Kael entered, the door behind him sealed with a thunderous echo, cutting off all retreat.

At the center stood the source of the darkness—a colossal shadow entity, constantly shifting and rippling as if its form existed beyond the physical plane. Tendrils of pure blackness snaked across the floor and walls, the temperature around them plummeting. Crimson eyes—cold, unblinking—pierced the darkness, locked onto Kael.

It was The Judge.

Suddenly, a familiar chime echoed in Kael's mind, and translucent words materialized in his vision

Kael gripped his Void Daggers tighter. The humming energy of the blades pulsed in sync with his heartbeat, each beat sharper than the last. He knew this would not be a simple test of combat but one of cunning, adaptation, and resilience.

The Judge's voice boomed, a low growl that echoed through the chamber like thunder.

"You dare claim mastery over the shadows? Prove yourself, mortal, or be consumed by the darkness."

Without warning, tendrils of shadow exploded from the ground, surging toward Kael with lethal intent. The trial had begun.

Kael reacted on pure instinct, his body disappearing into the shadows as he activated Void Step, phasing through the tendrils in a blur of dark energy. The world around him slowed, the hiss of the tendrils barely grazing his form as he reappeared several feet away. His Shadow Dash allowed him to blink through the initial onslaught, narrowly escaping the deadly strike.

But The Judge adapted quickly. The tendrils morphed, splitting into thinner, faster fragments that lashed out unpredictably, crisscrossing the chamber in a deadly web. Kael's reflexes were pushed to their limits as he danced between the slashing shadows, each move precise, each second a fragile grasp for survival.

Objective Update: Survive the Judge's Assault: Phase 1/3 Completed.

The ground beneath his feet trembled. Dark, narrow bridges made of pure shadow energy materialized, snaking through the chamber, forming treacherous paths that led toward different corners. But they were unstable—flickering in and out of existence.

"Cross the void… if you dare," The Judge's voice mocked.

Kael bolted forward, sprinting across the nearest bridge. His feet barely touched the surface before parts of the bridge vanished behind him. His mind raced. Each step had to be perfect, each movement timed to avoid plummeting into the endless abyss below.

A surge of shadow energy from The Judge severed a bridge directly in his path. With no time to think, Kael activated Veil of Shadows, turning invisible. His form shimmered and faded, just as the shadow energy passed harmlessly through where he had stood.

In the fleeting moments of invisibility, Kael darted forward, reappearing on a more stable platform. With a snap of his wrist, he hurled a Void Dagger charged with dark energy at a nearby tendril. The impact sent a ripple through the shadows, forcing The Judge to recoil.

Objective Update: Cross the Shadow Bridges: Phase 2/3 Completed.

The ground stabilized beneath Kael's feet as he reached the far side, but the voice of The Judge returned, deeper and more calculated.

"Shadows are not just your weapon, they are your mind. Answer the darkness, or be swallowed by it."

The chamber plunged into absolute darkness. Kael couldn't see his hand in front of his face. Then, a riddle echoed in his mind, whispered from the Judge himself.

"I am the shadow that follows, yet I flee from the flame. What am I?"

Kael's breath caught in his throat. The shadows began creeping inward again, slower this time, as if giving him time to answer. His mind worked furiously.

"A shadow," he murmured, hoping the answer was as simple as it seemed.

Objective Update: Solve the Riddle: Phase 3/3 Completed.

Commencing Trial... Part 2 Manipulation of Shadows

A deep, rumbling growl of approval echoed from the darkness. The shadows began to pull back, but before Kael could take a breath of relief, the Judge launched another assault. Tendrils lunged toward him, faster than before, the shadows hunting him with renewed aggression.

Kael's body tensed as the tendrils converged. With little time to think, he activated Spectral Presence, leaving behind a shadow decoy in his place while he dashed out of the tendrils' grasp. The decoy flickered, drawing the attention of the encroaching shadows, buying Kael precious seconds.

The decoy struck back at the tendrils with weak, shadow-infused attacks, a mere distraction. But it was enough.

Kael reappeared behind The Judge, his Echoing Strike ready. His first strike after Void Step landed with a +25% damage boost, his Void Daggers tearing through the Judge's ethereal form. The shadow entity let out a roar of pain as Kael's attacks ripped through it, but the trial was far from over.

The Judge's form flickered, its massive shadowy mass retreating for a brief moment before it reassembled itself. A low growl reverberated through the chamber.

The chamber grew heavy with oppressive energy. The Judge's most powerful ability activated—it bent the shadows themselves to its will, cutting off Kael's movement abilities. His Void Step fizzled out, leaving him vulnerable.

"You rely too much on your powers," The Judge's voice was a mocking sneer. "Show me your resourcefulness, or perish."

Kael's body froze for a fraction of a second. The tendrils were closing in again, and this time, there was no escape. He couldn't phase through them, couldn't dash away. His movement had been sealed.

"Fine," Kael muttered, determination setting in. "You want creativity?"

With a quick flick of his wrist, he threw one of his Void Daggers into the ground. The weapon glowed briefly before exploding in a burst of shadow energy, momentarily dispelling the tendrils around him.

The Judge hesitated, caught off guard by the sudden blast. Kael seized the moment. Activating Veil of Shadows again, he vanished, slipping behind the massive entity, positioning himself for one final strike.

Kael channeled the last of his remaining energy into his Void Daggers, using Dark Infusion to amplify his speed and damage. The blades hummed with a low, dangerous energy, crackling with void energy.

As his invisibility wore off, Kael launched into a series of rapid strikes, each one faster and more lethal than the last. His attacks, enhanced by Dark Infusion, tore through The Judge's form. Each blow struck with 20% more damage, slicing through the ancient shadow entity's body as it let out a deep, agonizing howl.

The Judge's form began to destabilize, the massive shadowy mass splitting apart under the onslaught. With one final strike, Kael drove his dagger deep into the core of the entity, releasing a shockwave of void energy that sent The Judge's form shattering across the chamber.

The oppressive atmosphere lifted, and the chamber grew eerily quiet.

System Notification:

Trial Complete: Judgment of the Shadow Judge

Reward: +10 to All Stats

Status Multiplier Activated: Stats Increased by +30

Kael exhaled deeply as the notification flashed before his eyes. His entire body hummed with newfound power. The trial was over, but the system wasn't done with him yet.

The crimson glow in The Judge's eyes flickered as it dissolved into shadow, but not before speaking one last time.

"You have proven yourself. The shadows bow to you."

A doorway of light appeared at the far end of the chamber. Kael took a moment to steady himself, his Void Daggers still humming with residual energy.

"Time to collect Aethlar's essence," he muttered, his voice carrying a mix of exhaustion and anticipation.

As he stepped forward, the doorway shimmered, revealing a swirling vortex. Beyond it lay the Final Chamber—where Aethlar's dark essence awaited.

Kael took a deep breath and stepped through.
