Erendath is one steeped in mystery, magic, and war. Its residents—ordinary people who live amidst extraordinary dangers—have always relied on Awakeners to defend the realm against the threats of Darkspawns and the ever-looming Abyss Rifts. When the Ascension System merged with Erendath, it brought not just power, but a new kind of destiny for those willing to challenge its mysteries.
Among the most powerful and enigmatic forces in the realm are the Rebirth Core Classes and the Eternal Class, both of which transcend the traditional boundaries of magic, skill, and life itself. They are a testament to the evolving nature of Erendath's world, where life and death, reality and the void, constantly intersect.
The Ascension System, believed by many to be the gift of the fallen hero Aethlar, grants adventurers powers that are tied to a mysterious energy force. As Awakeners progress, they not only gain experience and increase their skills, but they also have the ability to upgrade their core class at Level 40 through the trials of the Ascension Tower. These upgrades unlock Ascension Unique Classes—powerful variations of the main classes of Erendath.
But not all who wield the Ascension System are from Erendath itself. There are those who transcend the boundaries of this world—those known as Reborns. These individuals come to Erendath from a different existence, drawn into the realm by the mysterious force of the Rebirth Core Class.
Rebirth Core Classes: The Reborns
The Rebirth Core Classes exist uniquely for Reborns, individuals who were brought to Erendath through the manipulation of the Ascension System. These Reborns were once Ascension players—beings from another reality who, on the brink of death, were given a second chance at life. Through the energy and will of Ethan Soren, the Ascension's creator, and the legendary Eternal Aethlar, a new sentient force was forged—the Rebirth Core.
The Rebirth Core manifests within the Ascension System, and its power draws those on the verge of death into Erendath, transforming them into Ascendants. These Reborns gain a second life in the realm of Erendath, living among the people as Awakeners, though they wield powers far beyond those of ordinary adventurers.
The Rebirth Core Classes are unique to Reborns, drawing from the eight main classes of Erendath but taking on darker, more powerful forms rooted in Void and Shadow magic.
Rebirth Core Classes (Corresponding to Main Classes)
Voidblade – Assassin turned shadow warrior, mastering both stealth and shadow manipulation.
Spectral Warden – Heavy tank who harnesses Void magic to create unbreakable shields of darkness.
Necrotic Healer – A twisted form of the Healer, capable of restoring life by siphoning energy from the dead.
Abyssal Beastmaster – Commands otherworldly beasts born from the Void, creatures feared by even the bravest.
Ebon Ranger – Ranged fighter whose arrows are infused with the dark magic of the Abyss.
Deathcaller – Summoner who commands souls trapped between life and death, stronger than any mortal necromancer.
Void Elementalist – A master of elemental forces warped by shadow, bending the natural elements to sinister forms.
Shadow Brawler – Fighter whose strength comes from the void, blending brutal physicality with dark energies.
The Trials of Rebirth: Ascending Beyond Limits
Rebirth Core Classes have the potential to further ascend, just like any other Awakeners. However, their path to unlocking a subclass is far more secretive and dangerous. Unlike the traditional trials found on the earlier floors of the Ascension Tower, the Rebirth Core's Trial is located on the 20th floor, a place that only Reborns can access.
While the Elders who manage the Ascension Tower know much about its inner workings, the secret of the 20th floor is hidden even from them. Only the Reborns know of its existence, and only they can undertake the trial. This floor holds the Trial of Shadows and Void, a gauntlet designed to test not just the strength of the Rebirth Core class but the very essence of the Reborn's spirit.
To pass the trial, Reborns must battle manifestations of their past lives—echoes of the struggles that nearly took them from their world—and confront their deepest fears within the Abyss itself. Upon succeeding, they unlock their Ascension Subclass, pushing their Rebirth powers to an even higher tier.
The Hidden Legacy of the Reborns
Despite their immense power, Rebirth Core users—or Ascendants—are feared by the people of Erendath. Their existence is often misunderstood, their powers seen as unnatural or dangerous, far exceeding those of ordinary Awakeners. Many of these Reborns live in seclusion, hiding their abilities and keeping their true nature a secret.
However, when darkness threatens to engulf the realm, these Ascendants rise from the shadows, fighting the Darkspawns and protecting Erendath from behind the scenes. Their role, while unseen by the general populace, is vital to the continued survival of the realm. They are the last line of defense, often intervening when even the Awakeners cannot hold back the tide of the Abyss.
Varin Vale is one of the five known Reborns in Erendath (other than Kael Relan), is a prime example of this hidden power. They operate from the shadows, only emerging when their strength is truly needed. Their knowledge of the Ascension System, combined with their Rebirth Core abilities, makes them forces that even the Darkspawns fear.
The Forbidden 20th Level and the Eternal Trial
For centuries, the 20th floor of the Ascension Tower has been shrouded in mystery. Only those with the Rebirth Core trait can enter, and it is here that they must confront the Trial of Shadows and Void. But beyond this lies a greater secret—the Eternal Trial. This trial is not exclusive for the Reborns or the Awakeners, but for those destined to become Eternals—the chosen few who will defend Erendath for eternity.
The Eternal Class: Guardians of Erendath
Beyond the Reborns and the Rebirth Core lies an even greater mystery: the Eternal Class. Unlike any other class in Erendath, the Eternal Class is not bound to the Ascension System. It exists outside the structure of awakeners, levels, and trials, making it a true anomaly in the world.
The Eternals are not born; they are willed into existence by Erendath itself, brought into being in times of great peril, particularly during the rise of the Darkspawns. These immortal heroes, often called the Immortal Guardians, possess unfathomable power and unique abilities. Unlike the structured paths of the Awakeners or the Reborns, each Eternal is different, shaped by the will of the realm and the nature of the threats they are meant to face.
The Eternal Class is special not just because of their immortality but because there is no fixed definition of what an Eternal can be. Each Eternal's abilities, powers, and even purpose are unique, tailored specifically for the protection of Erendath. They are the silent watchers, the protectors who rise in the realm's greatest moments of need, but also the unseen guardians who ensure that Erendath survives long enough to see the dawn.
To pass this trial is to embrace immortality, to accept the mantle of Guardian of Erendath. Those who succeed are bound forever to the realm, their fates tied to the very essence of Erendath itself. They will watch over the land, unseen and eternal, until the Darkspawns are no more.
The Eternals are Erendath's greatest hope, and though their existence remains a myth to most, their legacy is immortal.
