Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Over-the-Top Everyday Life

The dispersed "Concentrated Herring Bomb" spread its smell across the entire venue, and everyone present was knocked out by it without exception. Once again, Midoriya's devilish invention had achieved remarkable results.

Under this hellish stench, even the invincible Togata Mirio was brought down, and the Support Course's internal event ended in a complete wipeout…

Afterward, Midoriya Izuku received a harsh reprimand from the school, warning him not to research weapons like this again, which left him feeling awkward and helpless.

As a side note, the Support Course students now looked at Midoriya with even more fear. Even the smallest action he made would prompt them to quickly retreat as if a major threat was coming.

Similarly, Class A students from the Hero Course also had strange looks when they saw Midoriya. None of them had left during the event, so they were all paralyzed by the smell too—Todoroki Shoto and Bakugo Katsuki included…

Fresh from a strict scolding from the Power Loader in the Support Course, Midoriya came to Class A's classroom, where Uraraka Ochako immediately came up and said:

"Midoriya-kun, that new invention of yours was amazing!"

"Well, it's fine but~ I still think there's a lot that needs improving~."

Receiving praise from Uraraka made Midoriya a bit shy, scratching the back of his head. His mechanical armor still had a lot of flaws to work out.

"No way, everyone saw the power of your new invention—it's definitely not something you could use on Hitoshi. Everyone could tell right away."

"That's true… that thing would be way too much for Hitoshi."

Takeyama Urei chimed in, and Midoriya thought about the armor's tank-piercing power—it could easily make a huge hole in a person if he wasn't careful.

"Tch, I never thought you'd be the one to make something this dangerous, you damn nerd."

Even Bakugo had to admit defeat for once. He couldn't come up with a single way to counter Midoriya's invention this time.

"Oh, it's nothing, really…"

Midoriya scratched his head, feeling a little embarrassed. Seeing Bakugo like this made him feel like he was seeing his childhood friend in a new light.

"Midoriya, your new invention really is powerful. Even I blacked out right away."

"Huh?!"

Todoroki's serious comment left Midoriya stunned.

"Wait, weren't you talking about my new mechanical armor?"

"Hah? That thing's not impressive. It's only mildly tough. We're talking about that biochemical weapon you whipped out at the end."

Midoriya's confusion was quickly cleared up by Bakugo. The armor was only a minor threat to him, but the biochemical weapon Midoriya made? Bakugo had no way to counter it.

"That's just mean…"

Midoriya sank to the ground, drawing circles in the dirt. He'd poured his heart into inventing the mechanical armor, only for it to be called "mildly tough."

By the way, the "Concentrated Herring Bomb" was something Midoriya had just whipped up as a side project...

——————————————————

The support department's event ended in a bit of a chaotic mess, and the students at U.A. High returned to regular classes with no other events.

Most of Midoriya's campus life was now taken up by hero classes. He joined his Class A classmates in learning the skills and experience needed to become a pro hero.

When he had some free time, Midoriya would go back to the support department's workshop to work on upgrading his mechanical armor before the finals. He definitely needed to fix the "Spiral Breakthrough" attack so it wouldn't make him spin himself.

There was something else too—Midoriya's hero costume was ready, though he wasn't thrilled about it…

"So why does my costume still have to look like this…?"

"There's no helping it. You're already registered with this design at Sir Nighteye's agency, so he handled the costume arrangements," explained Togata Mirio, as Midoriya awkwardly scratched his head. His costume was back to looking like "Akaya Kaiun."

But this time, the suit had been specially modified to fit for combat. It even came with special dye—one swipe would color it, another swipe would remove it, all without any harm.

"Sir Nighteye's weird taste…"

Midoriya thought about Nighteye, that cold guy with the reflective glasses who was secretly a huge fanboy. In that way, he and Midoriya were kind of alike.

"It's not so bad. Looking like a hero is important too."

"Fine…"

Togata Mirio suggested something, and Midoriya Izuku reluctantly agreed to the idea. In a way, it was his own fault for causing trouble in the first place, so he couldn't blame anyone else.

"By the way, Midoriya, do you still have one of those bombs from last time? Could you give me one?"

"I do have one, but Mirio-senpai, what do you want it for?!"

Although "Power Loader" had forbidden Midoriya from making such dangerous weapons again, he still had some left from the last time. He was also curious about why Togata Mirio wanted one.

"This upcoming mission might need it, but it's a secret for now!"

"...?"

Confused and curious, Midoriya didn't understand why Togata Mirio wanted the bomb, but he assumed it couldn't be anything bad. So, he handed over the devilish invention to Mirio.

About three days later, Midoriya Izuku was at home on a weekend morning, watching TV when a news segment caught his attention.

"Pro hero 'Lemillion' strikes again, capturing a major smuggling ring by himself. Over a hundred criminals were arrested, and not a single one escaped. Truly a hero star worthy of being called the successor to All Might."

"Now, let's hear what the captured smugglers have to say about it."

On the TV screen, the reporter passed a microphone to a smuggler with his face blurred out.

"I'm not really sure what happened. I blacked out immediately, but before I lost consciousness, it felt like I was experiencing hell. Now, my head's just a mess."

"Although I don't remember the details, my body still remembers the fear. I never want to go through that again!"

Watching the scene unfold, Midoriya Izuku silently made the sign of the cross over his chest and gave a three-second moment of silence for the unlucky smugglers he didn't even know.

He suddenly thought maybe "Loader" was right... He really shouldn't continue researching such terrifying weapons.

Midoriya felt that if he kept going down this path, he might end up creating a biological weapon powerful enough to destroy the world...
