Chapter 10 - Myself?

Adam's eyes shot open and franticly looked around to see his surroundings which were now covered in darkness as far as the eye could see, in fact, he could not see at all, his vision was rendered useless by the darkness.

"Where... am I?"

He held his head and massaged it while pushing himself off the ground... If it was even ground. Adam looked down to see that the 'floor' was just as black as his surroundings. Adam tried to gather his thoughts but he was too disoriented, his mind was scattered, and... He could not remember.

"What the hell happened? How did I end up here?"

While he was not sure of those answers, there were things he was sure of, like his name, his face, and his gender... But was he really? What was his name? What did he look like?

"...Who... Am I?"

As he posed this question, the... boy? whatever he was fell to the ground, felt the chaos in his mind pause, and he... It? fell to its knees.

"What am I? Who am I? HOW AM I?!"

Its last question had struck it to its very core. Its mind went into chaos again, but also it began to crack. It held its head and wreathed on the floor as if in excruciating pain. It started raving.

"WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?WHO AM I?...."

It began breaking, its body began turning dark, melding with the surrounding darkness. What was i? Who was it? Where was it? How was it? Was it even...

The thing suddenly stopped, the sound of glass cracking could be heard, and the darkness began receding.

"NO! I AM ALIVE! AND IF ANYONE SAYS OTHERWISE, I'LL JUST KEEP LIVING OUT OF SPITE"

The sound of cracking glass grew greater. With a flaming passion, with the burning desire to live igniting in his eyes, the darkness closest to it was broken like glass.

"I AM ME! I AM WHERE I NEED TO BE!... I... AM... ALIVE!"

After declaring this, a burning peach-colored sun blazed behind it... No, blazed behind Adam, chasing away the darkness and leaving him in a white room and a blazing peach sun behind him which strangely did not emit heat, to him at least.

Regaining his memories, Adam knew what the sun was but was confused to why it seemed... Incomplete, but he quickly realized why. Although it had absorbed the desires of others to the maximum amount, it had never taken his own.

Adam walked forward and placed his hand on the peach sun. Almost immediately, the burning fire in his eyes flowed into the sun, and then he backed away.

'What now?'

as if responding to his thoughts, the sun shone brighter, then an uncountable amount of ethereal, multi-colored threads shot out from it, and weaved themselves around the sun, trapping the heat, but also circulating it, keeping it stable. some of the strings then parted from the weave and attached to the white space flowing energy into it. Then more of the threads parted and attached themselves to Adam, flowing energy into him as well.

This had all happened in about two seconds, not giving Adam the time to react. By the time he knew what was happening, he had already been connected to the sun by the weaves.

"What?"

Then, a large amount of information began entering into Adam's mind, and a familiar voice sounded as well.

[Congratulations Adam! You have restored the Godhood of desire that has been bestowed upon you! You are a step closer to taking ownership of this Authority!]

Before he had time to process what had just happened, the white world shook, and the white floor under the sun became reflective, like a mirror, and what he saw made his heart beat like drums.

In the reflection was himself, but it was strange and different, he was eerily beautiful, wearing a soft smile, surrounded by the same haunting darkness from before, wearing it like a hood, his eyes were white, shimmering like two stars in the night sky which would bring hope to anyone who saw them, but for some reason, he only felt horror. He was also shifting around threads like a puppet master.

Adam's eyes traveled down the line of thread, and eventually, what he saw made him more rigid, it was himself once again, this time reflecting his every move.

Adam's head shot upward to look above him, and so did the reflection. While Adam did not see anything, his reflection was looking directly at his god-like copy.

Adam's eyes darkened in horror at the prospect that there might be an unseen, god-like copy of him puppeteering him without his knowledge. But as if to shield him from this terrifying revelation, the white world shattered, sending him back to reality and forcing him to wake up.

Then an unfamiliar voice sounded beside him.

"oh? you're awake?"
