Chapter 1 - The book

The sky was dark, decorated by the shining stars and the beautiful round moon who shone her white light on the land; on a street were the houses were sparsely placed, in a particular house.

A boy who had looked like he never slept was lying on a bed, still covered in his sheets. He flung the sheets off and sat on the bed, deep in thought, then he got up and went to A door on his right which was the door to the bathroom, and went inside.

Adam washed his face and looked at himself in the mirror, he had dark circles under his eyes and looked like he had not slept for days, this was due to the constant headaches and voices that kept screaming the words "save the clown" which he started hearing Monday, today was Friday.

"Have I gone crazy?" Adam asked his reflection while he was swallowing sleeping pills and painkillers.

"Heh maybe I have, I'm talking to my mirror after all"

Back in his room, just as he was about to lunge into the bed, he saw a dark golden-brown book adorned with gold lining and with the words 'into the mystic' written on it.

"what the... were did-" Just as he was about to question the origins of the book Adam spotted a letter lying beside the book, as he walked closer to get a better look, he saw that the letter was dedicated to him... Well, it would be concerning if it wasn't, actually, it's concerning either way! he took the letter and opened it

"dear Adam

Your grandmother and I will be leaving for a while and we don't know when we will return, so as an early birthday present I've left one of my old books for you, but please do not read past the first page until tomorrow night on the full moon.

Happy early 18th birthday Adam.

Lovingly

Your grandfather"

so my grandpa left this for me? why must I start reading on the full moon? why did he leave? why a mysticism book of all things?

"oh well"

Adam took the items off the bed and went to sleep with the help of the pills

...

The morning light shone into the room dimmed by the curtained window, an alarm rung echoing through the room. Adam's eyes opened look just as tired as he was last night, Damn it! he had forgotten to turn off the alarm.

Rising from his bed, Adam walked to his bathroom and performed his daily routine. While brushing his hair, he looked into the mirror and remembered how his grandma had pranked him a week ago at the beginning of summer by cutting his hair into a bowl cut.

Sigh, I look like a nerd, even more than usual! while Adam looked the part, he was nothing of the sort, up until the end of high school, his grades were horrible, he constantly got into fights due to his looks, and he also got into other sorts of trouble.

...

7:30 PM, in Adams's room

"so I should start reading this now I guess" Adan had taken up the book and sat on his bed.

He opened the book and started reading, it contained information about many spells, rituals, and even mythical creatures he had never heard of such as the dream tiger, the eagle wyvern, or the maple axolotl.

Reading through the book he thought that it was more interesting than he originally thought. At the end of the book, there were words that for some reason got a page to themselves that the book told him to repeat, so he did.

"The Almighty that equals the abyss,

Bridger of worlds,

ruler of creation that tamed life and knowledge.

I ask to open the gates to the bridge and the library"

After repeating the lines, Adam took painkillers and a sleeping pill because he had to wake up early tomorrow. After pulling the sheet over himself he quickly fell asleep.

At midnight when the clock struck 12 the book that had been left by Adam's grandfather started to dissipate into glowing dust particles, floating to Adam's head and fading as they hit him, leaving only the two bookmarks that soon after began glowing and floated to Adam's chest and phasing into it directly where his heart was.

The rest of the night was quiet like nothing had ever happened.
