They descended the stairs slowly, the further they went down the more they could hear the breathing of all the goods stored at the bottom.
From animals to magical beasts, even the strangest and perhaps most expensive merchandise... humans.
The animals are used as pets, the magical beasts serve the same purpose. So they have no special use but it was cheaper to get one of these than any other commodity.
A human or a blood bag has more care than a pet. They have to be fed and kept healthy, vampires and humans don't share diseases, so you have to look for a more advanced doctor who can treat humans as well.
Also another drawback was their short life span and their aging that takes away their beauty after they reach 40 or 50 years of age.
If you want a short-lived pet it is better to get an animal and if you want a long-lived pet it is better to get a magical beast.
So
Why choose a human as a pet?
The reason was its intelligence and ability to feed its owner. They were rare pets almost exclusive, so Valery getting one was not unusual. The problem was that her parents died in the war against humans.
In short, they could not allow the sale of a pet which would be treated or tortured, after all human blood is the most nutritious and important for vampires.
Even though most humans now live on farms, they are still tried to live as healthily as possible, but they are no longer the dominant race in the world and never will be again.
They passed through multiple cages, all filled with multiple animals and magical beasts. The humans were at the bottom of it all and that's where they headed.
It wasn't that far either, it was only several meters from the stairs to the back.
In the cages were about 5 humans of different genders, ages and appearances. They were only covered by underwear, to show that their bodies were not damaged or if there were any imperfections that the cleint did not like.
Valery's eyes moved over each one, until her gaze fell on a slender boy with a sauve and tender face, his hair was curly and black, his eyes gray and quite calm. He didn't even look at her or pay attention to her, just stared at nothing.
There were no wounds on his body, nor was he overworked.
Somehow seeing him like this made her heart seem to beat for the first time in her life.
He seemed as tender and gentle as a sheep, a soft and quiet sheep
Valery pointed to him
" He, I want his files" Valery said before leaving the place to go upstairs and get some other things she also wanted to buy, but the main reason was to get this strange feeling in her body. It was a strange emotion, maybe it was just that she was excited, without thinking about it she decided to go on with her shopping.
A set of feathers and paper, and several fabrics to order from the tailor to prepare new dresses for the time at the 100 years academy. New costumes that would have to be made for the mandatory classes, fortunately there were not as many classes as when she went the first time.
Adelaide arrived with a folder in which a pencil photo of the boy could be seen, but she could not capture all the beauty of the boy in that portrait. She read her information and there was nothing remarkable.
The boy was about 22 years old, about to turn 23, he came from a shelter which was taken, several years ago, in the shelter some tried to resist the capture, but the boy did nothing, he remained extremely quiet after the death of his parents, since then there have been no cases of resistance or conflict.
Only his great indifference to everything, he was like a body without a soul. He didn't listen to orders but he didn't do any harm or anything like that.
It was diagnosed that his trauma from the loss of his parents was severe enough to make him look like the living dead.
"My lady, do you still wish to purchase the young man?" Adelaide asked
"Yes, there is a requirement, isn't there?"
"Yes, you will have to sign an agreement that you will not hurt him and that some people from the humans farm association will come to check on him from time to time."
Valery nodded and thought about it a little bit was.... quite a lot of work, but she could use the company that young man could provide. Because that's what she needs... company
Adelaide is always with Valery, but as there is so much work and the work is still increasing, plus the academy is coming up and Adelaide will not be able to accompany her.
So this young man could be useful for that, company.
Adelaide hurried to bring the papers for Valery to sign. After signing them, she gave him a copy and then handed the boy to her.
The young man now had a tattoo on his neck in the shape of a chain, Barion drew a chain on his wrist which disappeared after being drawn. It was a symbol that linked them in a profound way.
But without many guidelines, it was only a link that helped them to locate each other and not to allow his aggression against her.
Valery smiled in appreciation of her birthday present and as she left the store.
Sir Bertus and Henry happy her again for her birthday before returning to work.

Sir Bertus and Henry happy her again for her birthday before returning to work.
"Have a Happy Birthday" they both shouted as the carriage drove back to the residence, in the back of which there were several things she had purchased.
Valery's eyes did not leave the young boy in front of her.
"What do you want me to call you, shall I give you a new name or keep yours?"
