The first thing Eídal saw when he stepped out of the room was a long white hallway with enormous black-framed windows, fogged up by the incessant rain. Just as he tried to look for someone, a cold voice stopped him from behind:
"For a moment, I wondered: where does the little mosquito think he's going? But I suppose now that he no longer has wings because they were burned, he won't be able to fly around making noise."
Eídal turned stiffly, like a rusty screw, and let out a muffled scream. The voice belonged to Astrid, the person he least wanted to encounter. She was standing with her arms crossed and had a tired expression. Eídal tried to speak, but the words got stuck in his throat.
The combination of nerves and the inexperience accumulated during his time in captivity overwhelmed him. Let's remember that this time he didn't have the thorcam activated[containing emotions], so the timid little creature facing Astrid was his true self.
