Chapter 11 - The wolf in sheep's clothing【3】

Having deactivated the thorcam [contain emotions], Eídal desperately leaned against a wall behind a dumpster.

"Ahhh. Everything's spinning."

It was crucial to remember that each thorcam had its own powers, payment methods, and side effects.

"The side effects of a thorcam are the worst part about using them."

All thorcams were different from each other. Besides what needed to be offered to use them, it was important to consider the side effects. It wasn't enough to just put on a thorcam and expect the body to handle it without issue. Each one affected a specific part of the user's body.

For example, the thorcam [contain emotions], as its name suggested, controlled emotions, affecting the user's brain. By directly applying pressure to the brain, it caused dizziness, like what Eídal was experiencing at that moment. But that wasn't the only discomfort he felt. He looked at his right hand, where he wore the thorcam [steal objects], and murmured:

"My hand feels like it's dying." His palm was trembling slightly. "Ahhh! It's spreading to my shoulder."

The pain in his hand was the side effect of using the thorcam [steal objects]. Contrary to what one might think, this thorcam didn't magically transport an object. Instead, it made the user's hand move faster than the brain could process, allowing them to steal an object and replace it with another.

Eídal's hand, controlled by the thorcam, had acted on its own, swapping the gravel he was carrying for the girl's blue bag at an incredible speed.

Obviously, moving the hand so quickly had consequences. The main issue was the intense pain due to the sudden movement. Additionally, it had many limitations, such as a weight limit and the inability to magically open safes or locks.

And just like repeatedly hitting an open wound, the side effects worsened with continuous use.

After a brief rest, Eídal tried to leave the alley.

"But hey! That last line went well, right?"

He wanted to cheer himself up, remembering what he had said to the heroine during their first encounter:

"Just try to relax, hero…"

'Now she thinks I'm someone threatening and with character! ... Just kidding. But I'm sure she won't forget my face! Haah, all that's left is to force an encounter and prove my worth.'

Leaving the alley, Eídal pulled out a third thorcam from the wooden box he carried around his neck. It looked like a chunky twig, no bigger than the palm of his hand, with a small leaf in the center pointing in one direction.

It was a sort of compass with the enchantment [track objects].

Placing a map on the ground and the thorcam on the paper, Eídal was able to locate the heroine's group, since he had placed a small marker on the bag he had returned to the girl.
