Days afterwards became a maze of activities in preparation for the festival. The village did hum with some enthusiasm: streamers were put up and stalls are reserved for the games and other events.
In these days, he would more often than not be in the company of Aiko and Demian helping with the preparations and training for the different competitions that were going to be held. One afternoon, they were at the training grounds doing strength and agility exercises.
Aiko made a bet for a race with Luca. "Come on, let's see who's faster! I bet I can beat you."
Luca chuckled. "You're on. Ready, set, go!
They ran across the field, their laughter carried in the air. Aiko was fast, but soon Luca pulled ahead, crossing the finish line first of the two.
"Looks like I win," Luca huffed.
Aiko pouted playfully. "Fine, you win this time. But I'll get you next time!"
Demian, who was looking on, started in, "How about strength test next? Let's see who can lift most."
The next hour was filled with the testing of their strengths, encouraging and asking for tips. The healthy competition drew them closer to one another, stronger than before.
As the sun began setting, they sat on a bench, cooling down and enjoying the evening breeze.
"This is going to be such an awesome festival," Demian said, stretching his arms. "I can feel it."
Aiko nodded. "Yeah, this has been great working together this way. I really think we are all going to do really well."
Luca smiled as he, too, started feeling a bit accomplished. "I agree. It's been quite fun. And it's nice to have something to look forward to."
The plans for the festival were furthered enthusiastically and in desperation. The conversation flowed smoothly; there was much laughter and teasing.
Luca parted with the night anew, with a purpose held within. The looming festival was close, and he was ready for it. Whatever lay ahead, his friends would make the most of it.
Days before the festival were so full of enthusiasm and anticipation. Luca went back to training in order to perfect himself for the competitions. Everybody was working for the success of the festival-an animated village.
On the eve of the festival, he found himself standing beside the forge, reflecting on the sojourn so far.
