There was a white glass booth to the right of the gate. Transparent, tinted, so you couldn't see the person inside. Delvin only saw people enter the booth when they were called and, a few minutes later, come out. Now it was he's turn. He walked forward to the booth, carefully taking note of every detail in his way, for to him nothing was offered that easily.
He was convinced that there must be a catch. He learned that at an early age. The booth had only one green button.
He pressed it on and the glass door slid open. The moment he stepped in, the glass door automatically closed.
An automated voice like the one outside stated, 'Put your hand on the hand scanner.'
Delvin screened the place with watchful eyes, moved two steps to the right hand. There was a bright gray computer board with an illustration of a hand on its screen with green lines which came out like veins. It was obvious the scanner.
It was easy to recognize because it had four fingers and a thumb. Delvin pressed his hand on it, instantly it lit up, there rang a ding sound.
The automated voice resumed once more, 'What is your name?'
Without wasting time, he stated, 'Delvin Dred.'
An automated voice went on, 'State your age?'
Delvin swallowed his saliva, before a word came out, 'Twenty years.'
An automated voice kept on going, 'Are you married?'
Delvin was at easy, talking to a machine in every respect is uncomplicated. Delvin asseverated, 'No.'
An automated voice followed up with the next question, 'What is your profession?'
Delvin was now more comfortable and felt at home. It's the simplest interview ever, he thought. And gave an answer in his assertive outstanding tone, 'Electrical and electronic engineering?'
The government had a database for all the humans in each town. Every achievement is recorded in the system. There was a ding-dong sound on the left. He turned to see what it was.
A shelf opened at the same level as his belly. And there was what looked like a wristwatch inside. It was black, with a silver glass on it and had just one button. It was very eye-catching.
An automated voice proceeded, 'Please pick up the Granetor and put it on. You will receive information later on to notify you whether you have been accepted or not. You can open the door and exit.'
There was another green button near the door to the right. Delvin walked four steps and reached the door. He pushed the green button, the glass door slid open, and he walked himself out of the booth.
The moment he stepped outside, he was received by his good friend George, who looked at Delvin's face inquisitively, but got nothing.
'How did it go?'
George was left with no choice but to ask.
Delvin's registration had not been completed. Therefore, he wasn't sure of how to take it out, and it took him a while.
'They gave me a wrist Granetor, they will reach out to me and let me know if I have been accepted at ZamCorp Base One or not?'
George, as usual, was full of confidence and vigor, 'You will absolutely get accepted.'
Delvin did not know how to express himself, he only crossed his fingers and hoped for the best. George gazed at his friend with absolute faint dizzy eyes, Delvin, who also replicated the gaze. Both parties were tired, most of their businesses were successful.
George broke the silence, 'Let's go home my friend.'
He gave a broad smile, Delvin couldn't agree more.
'Yes, yes, brother, let's go!'
They set off on their journey home.
About one hour thirty minutes, Delvin was at his place. He sat on his stool, he breathed in and out. Relaxing his tensed body and realizing the heavy fatigue of the night, feeling every inch and its muscle.
The replay of the day's scene went on. As he muttered to himself, 'What an eventful day it has been.'
Where should I start from? I have to start from the beginning. Eternal Space? Acrymonta, that was his name. I will unlock the gift for you. What gift? I felt things enter my body during the meditation. I don't understand any of that stuff. Maybe I was hallucinating, no need to worry, it felt so real.
He chuckled loudly, after a series of questions crossed his mind.
OK, forget about that. Let me get familiar with this granitor. It has only one button.
Delvin pressed the button on the wrist Granetor and it brought a hologram display. It exhilarated Delvin, 'Wow!'
He leaped with joy after exclaiming, 'This is interesting.' He muttered to himself.
The hologram was just the same as the one they saw in every town and compound. Its display was like that of an iPhone.
He looked at time. It was three o'clock A M in the morning.
I should get a bit of rest. My life now is full of stuff I need to understand. It wouldn't hurt to have a bit of rest.
He reasoned, as he was about to get into bed, at that instant the watch beeped two times, with a blinking blue light. Before Delvin could figure out what was happening, the hologram display turned on, and a fine gentle man appeared on the display.
The man articulated, 'Good morning Delvin? You have been accepted at ZamCorp Base One. You will begin your probation on the third of March. You can check out the contract form right on the Granetor hologram. Please take your time to go through the contract thoroughly. It is vital you understand it before you sign it. Thank you so much for your cooperation. Congratulations and have a great day.'
Delvin waited for the hologram to turn off. The minute it went off. Delvin jumped up, began dancing and jumping up with great excitement.
He shouted with all his strength and mighty, 'Great! I did it. Thank you so much mother Universe for remembering me! I am definitely blessed.'
He laughed joyfully in an hysterically manner. When he exhausted all his energy in laughter, he came to a standstill. He whispered loudly, 'Am I going to take a rest today? It looks like things keep piling up. Don't complain, instead be grateful. I am happy about the new turn of events. Let me just have a little rest and I will come back to all this. Well, I am grateful for everything happening to me. It is an honor and privilege. I can't wait to see what comes next. It's like I am dreaming. And please, don't wake me up.'
Delvin finally slept peacefully.
Three hours later, an automated voice came soundded, 'Good morning Delvin?'
Delvin was aroused and he jumped off his bed. He looked at every side of the house. He leaned down to check under his bed. He flipped the bed and there was nothing.
