Chapter 25 - Fired Right Away

After entering, she stared at her father, grinned at him warmly, who turned his head to focus on the dashboard of the car. Ignited the car engine, revved it, before getting into motion of slowly reversing, the gate slid open and they drove off.

The next day was a super Sunday.

My goodness, is it Sunday morning? Headache? I have not had this for a long time. Maybe this is a hangover? ------- Well, -------- tomorrow is my big day. I am ready for Zoom Multi Corporation Base One with my new ideas. I just have to succeed no matter what? This would make me unstoppable, secure, protected, hopefully find my way back home. I also desire to have a passive income, so that I don't need to watch over my shoulders every time. Delvin was thinking, while still on his bed.

'You are right brother, I would like to meet our relatives?' Zauzo jumped, right into Delvin's thought conversation.

Oh! You would love them. They are the coolest people I have ever known. For instance, I have a younger brother, Gehrig. He is an amazing person, though we fought over small things most of the time in our childhood.

'I wish I could remember my memories of the past life before I merged with your consciousness?' Zauzo expressed remorse.

Sometimes all we need is time. When the timing is right, things just unfold themselves.

'I am grateful that I merged with you, you have a good personality.' Zauzo commented, expressing his gratitude.

Me too, it seems it's fate, like we would say on my original planet.

At Grandma Beatrice's House, she was still in bed but awake, she had a bit of a headache, probably because of the wine she took last night. She got up, leaned on the pillow at the far end of her bed. Stretched her hand to grab the bottle of water on the shelf, with her right hand, and while in the process she mourned, 'howl, this awful headache is killing me!'

After complaining awkwardly, she took two sips in a row, then images of yesterday's event streamed through her mind, the most catching of all being the words spoken by George.

Delvin likes another girl at Lusaka Blue Hotel? I made so many efforts for nothing yesterday just to win him over to this family. Delvin has to marry Brenda no matter what. This is our only hope to secure the future of this family. I will take this as my mission until my wish is fulfilled. Grandma Beatrice declared to herself.

On a Monday, at seven fifty o'clock in the morning, Delvin stood right in front of gate one, pressed the green button on the left, and then swiped the Granetor on the scanner ID. A clicking sound on the silver glass door rang as it slid open. Delvin walked into the elevator, pressed the number for the floor he needed to go to, when it was about to start off, an old man jumped, right in, and smiled at him gently. Honestly, Delvin did not see where this man came from, the door closed, and the elevator began going up.

'Is it your first time?' Inquired the old man.

'Yes, is that obvious?' Delvin replied questioningly.

'I happen to have worked here for many years.' It's clear what the old man meant.

Zoom Multi Corporation Base One was made up of ten levels. The first level consisted of general workers, then the second had office workers such as accountants, analysts, and database collectors. The third level had I T specialists. The fourth, craft engineers, the place where Delvin was to report to, and on the fifth level, the Army and super soldiers, while the sixth level was composed of scientists only. On the seventh level, architecture engineers, and the eighth level spacecraft pilots, who happened to be practicing in the simulators and were full of technicians and scientists. The ninth level had inventors and innovators and Delvin's dream. Finally, the tenth level was composed of Directors, Generals and board members.

'I wish you all the best, Mister...!' The old man paused in the process.

'Dred.' Delvin said to help the old man complete his sentence.

'Right, Mister Dred, the old man finally uttered.

Delvin would have loved to know the old man further but time was of the essence. He stepped out of the elevator.

'Thank you, Mister Williams.' Delvin read from the old man's name tag, expressed his gratitude, he was already making friends. He smiled, turned and started heading to his department.

Delvin found himself in the craft engineers section. As he entered the workshop, there were more than twenty people working on various mechanical engines.

'Good morning Mister Dred! Welcome to the craft engineers department, where we value ideas and are more than ready to help you climb the ladder to your desired position. Therefore, if you are not clear about anything, feel free to ask while I run you through our current projects.' Mister Frank Edwin seemed excited.

Delvin's face did not show any expression from what he had just heard, and this left Mister Edwin uncomfortable. He thought maybe he had not stipulated things the right way. He was about to clarify, when he got interrupted by Delvin, 'I am sorry, Mister Edwin, I don't mean to disrespect you or your work, thank you for the warm welcome, but my interests lie somewhere else. I would like to join the inventors and innovators. Would you help me go there now or who should I see?'

Mister Edwin frowned after receiving the news, and then he smiled mischievously, though very puzzled. It's like in all of his years working at Zoom Multi Corporation Base One, he has never encountered any person with that kind of audacity.

'Sorry Mister Dred, you need to qualify for that position by demonstrating your skills right here.' Mister Edwin explained thoroughly.

Delvin smiled inquisitively, and put on a calm demeanor, 'I have an idea. It needs immediate attention and response. With the way things are going, it might help serve our future better. It's necessary we work on it as soon as possible. I just want inventors and innovators' views on the idea and then look for a way to implement it.' Delvin tried extra hard to convince Mister Edwin.

Mister Edwin relaxed a bit, he looked to have taken one or two things from Delvin, so he had to try a different approach, to instill something into this young fellow. He thought today's young men were so impetuous.

'You know that there are consequences, and if your idea is not sound, you might risk losing your entire career, before you can earn any coin?' Mister Edwin tried to make Delvin look at his decision from a different angle.

Delvin serenely chuckled, 'I am a hundred percent aware of that, sir, and time is precious for both of us.'

Now Mister Edwin knew that there was nothing he could do to persuade this young man.

'OK, I get you, but you should remember that I warned you, let me call General Martins and hear his view.'

Mister Edwin pressed the button on the Granetor which brought a hologram display, pressed the option to communicate and sent a call to General Martins. After twenty seconds elapsed, General Martins appeared on the Hologram. His hands folded across in front, 'Mister Edwin, what do I owe the pleasure of your call?' Asked General Martins with a dim grin.

Mister Edwin gave a heavy sigh, with a serious attitude, 'General, Delvin says he would like to join the inventors and innovators' department, he has an agent idea that needs to be tackled immediately.' Mister Edwin reported the earlier conversation.

General Martins furrows widened, he became concerned, 'Are you sure that is what you want?' Inquired General Martins, focusing his eyes onto Delvin.

'Yes sir.' Delvin replied, in an assertive tone.

General Martins smiled in an impish manner, which meant this was going to be fun and an unforgettable scene.

'Alright, send him up to the ninth level. Caution, our time is precious, so don't waste it, or you will be fired right away!'
