Chapter 16 - CHAPTER SIXTEEN: RIGHT NEXT TO YOU

SOOJIN'S POV

I stood there, bewildered by the sudden turn of events," Soojin..." Nana's voice broke through my confusion. "Are you okay?" she asked her worry evident in her eyes..." Nana.." I called out..with my mind still foggy..." Please get me out of here.." I said in a shaky voice as she guided me to the car.

As we started to set off..I recalled that I needed to go to the hospital and asked them to drop me there instead.....

As I sat in the car, trying to piece together the fragmented memories, my phone rung , and it was Minho on the line, " Hey Soojin, thank goodness you picked up..what happened earlier..why did you suddenly scream?" He asked with his concern palpable....His words about our earlier conversation left me stunned... mostly because I have no recollection of it....." Soojin...you still there.." he asked..."Let's meet at the hospital then.." he added as I hang up...The throbbing in my head intensified as the realization hit me like a ton of bricks...." What the hell is happening.." I questioned.

Arriving at the hospital, Nana offered to stay, but I assured her that I'll be fine....and after much hesitation she finally left.

I recounted the strange events to Dr. Park," I have no idea what's happening...my last memory is at the parking lot after I pick up my phone...other than that I don't remember anything else..like how the hell I got to the middle of the road...." I explained as he quietly listened.." Could this me a side effect from the medication?" I asked...as he took a deep sigh....." What is happening to you soojin is what we call memory black outs...these happen to patients of temporalis swellum..like I explained earlier temporalis swellum..causes swelling in the temporal lobe...and the swelling slowly affects your auditory senses, memory, language comprehension and emotional responses....so that's what's happening now..." he explained" memory blackouts?" I questioned with a shaky voice..." Yes memory black outs are like partial memory losses...or you can call it a gap in your memory....this is a condition affecting the temporal lobe of your brain...it triggers disruptions in your memory formation and retrieval processes leading to gaps in your recollection and confusion about your own actions...." He explained further...

Panic gripped me as the weight of his words sinks in, and I'm left grappling with the frightening reality of my condition....

MINHO'S POV

I quickly made my way through the hospital corridors...to meet soojin and as I reached her room, Doctor Park intercepted me asking to have a word with me...He led me to his office, where I sank into the chair he offered with anxiety knotting my stomach.

"Is everything alright, Doctor Park?" I inquired, my voice trembling slightly. The doctor's words about Soojin's condition hung heavy in the air. He explained how Soojin had confided in him about her memory lapses, the events she couldn't recall from today. My mind raced with concern for her well-being.

"Do you think this will happen often?" I questioned, my voice barely above a whisper. Doctor Park's response was measured yet tinged with uncertainty. He detailed the need for further tests and observation," Look Mr Choi what matters to soojin right now it's to be calm and less stressed out during this time because that isn't good for her health....before she told any one about her illness I was worried about how she was going to handle everything in her own..i even worried about her mental health and the possibility of her slipping into depression because of everything that was going on with her... that worry faded the moment I realised that she confided in you about her health condition and I believe she did so because she trusts in you..so please stay by her side and however rough things get...dont let her stress out..." he advised...his advice to keep her happy and stress-free resonated deeply with me; I vowed to do everything in my power to support Soojin through this challenging time, no matter what lay ahead.

I walked into soojins room after my talk with the doctor and found her seated in thought..." How are you feeling?" I questioned...as I walked towards her...she looked up to me with teary eyes..and all I could do at the moment was wrap her in my arms...." Iam here...don't worry.." I said as she held me even tighter...

" I figured you would be hungry and so I bought some soup.." I said as I laid it out for her to eat..." Come on have something to eat.." I said as she showed me her right hand where the needle had been pricked once again.." okay..I'll help you." I replied to her as I picked up the spoon and fed her...." Will you be spending the night in the hospital tonight?" I questioned..." As much as I don't want too I have too considering fi have some tests to be done tomorrow..." She replied.." Well I'll accompany you for the night.." I suggested.." Are you sure?" She asked.." Ofcourse...I'll just go home and grab some things and be back.." I replied as she softly smiled at me..." now come one....let's finish the soup.." I said.." You should have some too.." she suggested.." I already had my share..this is all yours now come on.." I said as she ate it all up.

As promised I went back home, and packed somethings I needed for the night and then headed back to the hospital....

SOOJINS POV

" You back.." I said as I stepped out of the bathroom..." Yeah..there was some bit of traffic jam and that why Iam a little late.." Minho explained.." No it's okay.." I replied as I sat on my bed and searched around for a Hair dryer and then tried to plug it in to dry my hair.." here I'll help you.." Minho suggested as he slowly took it from my arms..." Here I Go.." he said as he slowly dried my hair.

" Thank you.." I said after he concluded.." It's nothing.." he replied as he unpacked his bag when I saw something.." Is that.." I said as I pulled out the playing cards..." Well since you couldn't beat me last time..I thought that I could give you a rematch..." He said as I smiled cheerfully..." Oh you are so going down this time.." I playfully threatened..." How about you go and freshen up as well and we can play a round...?" I asked.." No...you should get enough rest...let's play with these tomorrow.." he said as I groaned..." Come on...just one round.." I pleaded..." One round.." he agreed as he left to wash up and join me.

One round became two and two became three..and before you know it we just kept going..mainly because I just couldn't accept just how bad I was at playing cards...." Are you finally ready to give up?" Minho asked after he won another game..." Iam not sure about giving up but Iam finally ready to get some sleep.." I said as he chuckled softly.." okay...I'll put these away.." he said as he packed up the cards..." Come on..get some sleep." He said as I slowly laid on my bed and turned to look at him as he got comfortable on the couch..." Are you sure you will be fine on the couch? I could ask Nurse Lee to arrange another bed for us...I mean this is a large ward.." I suggested.." No let's not disturb any one...I'll be fine.." he replied.." Maybe you should sleep on the bed.." I suggested..." And where would you sleep then?" He asked..." Look soojin Iam okay..get some sleep." He said with a smile as he laid down on his back.." okay... goodnight.." I said..." Good night.." he replied as we went to sleep.

As I slowly opened my eyes the next morning, the first thing I saw was Minho, peacefully sleeping on the couch. A warm smile naturally graced my lips as I gazed at him, feeling a sense of comfort wash over me. When I noticed the cloth slipping off him and falling to the floor, I didn't hesitate to pick it up and cover him again, my heart skipping a beat as I squatted by his side, taking in the peaceful sight of him.

Lost in the moment, a gentle knock on the door startled me back to reality. A nurse entered, informing me about the upcoming examination. Quickly regaining my composure, I hurried to freshen up before heading out for the tests, leaving Minho undisturbed in his peaceful slumber.

I had the tests done...and quickly went back to my ward...where I didn't find Minho but a note by him saying that he had gone out to get the both of us something to eat.....

Minho spent the entire day with me..we played cards again..and suprisingly I did win a round or two this time...maybe he was going a little easy on me.

Later that evening,I suggested we go watch the sunset, so we headed to the hospital rooftop. While there, I asked Minho, "Have you ever heard of this saying... that if you scream loudly at a tall place like a mountain or a building, it helps relieve you of any stress or pressure?", " Do you want to try it? " Minho asked and I replied with a deep sigh "This place isn't high enough... plus if I yelled, I would be disturbing the patients." Minho then suggested that we go to a higher place....and as he grabbed my hand and lead me to the car, I asked, "Are you really not going to tell me where we are going?", " Nope..it's a suprise..now fasten your seat belt.." he said as as he started driving off. It wasn't long before we arrived.....ad to my surprise the higher place he was talking about was this old light house...."When you said the highest place, I didn't think you were talking about this lighthouse," I said.... "It's the highest I could think of here in Han city. You can scream all you want up here." He said as he held my hand and lead me to the top.

Nervously, I questioned, "Are you sure this place is sturdy... won't we fall?" Minho then locked fingers with mine and softly stared at me, reassuring, "No, we won't... now scream... scream so loudly that you feel relieved..." He said as I looked around nervously..." Come on.. I can do it with you." He said as we both took deep breaths and counted down to three and then let out the loudest screams..... "Are you feeling better now?" Minho asked...." Can we go one more time?" I asked as we both got ready and screamed again..this time round my scream was accompanied with tears falling from my eyes....

MINHO'S POV

As we stood at the top of the lighthouse, Soojin must have felt a wave of emotions in her...I looked back at her tear-streaked face and gently asked, "Do you feel that release now?" She softly nodded in affirmative....I then wrapped my arms around her, offering comfort and support in the moment of vulnerability we both shared. Soojin looked up at me with gratitude shining in her eyes, and whispered "Thank you for bringing me here..."

As we settled into the car after leaving the lighthouse, Soojin surprised me by mentioning her desire to visit a convenience store.....I didn't ask why untill we arrived..."What are we doing here?" I asked.." I'll be back.." she said as she stepped out of the car...and headed I to the store...i few minutes later she walked out holding a plastic bag.." what's that?' I asked..." popsicles....nothing can make this day better than popsicles.." she replied as I chuckled in suprise....

We both then sat in the back of the car, enjoying our popsicles and gazing at the stars, "There is nothing better than licking on these and stargazing." Soojin commented with a smike...I stole a glance at her face glowing in the starlight and a sense of warmth and contentment filling my heart....as I watched her smile so brightly.

"They're so bright tonight," Soojin remarked, drawing my attention again as I looked at her, a soft smile formed on my lips, "They are, aren't they." I replied as My gaze shifted back to the stars, feeling grateful for this simple yet magical moment with Soojin by my side.....
