Chapter 143 - It had to be Soren

The young man was very tall, and although he was of Asian descent, he was as physically imposing as the towering Whitney.

His face was that of someone just transitioning from youth to adulthood, his demeanor balancing between youthful exuberance and adult steadiness, with bright, sharp eyes.

"Hey, what's going on here?"

He came up behind Soren, but his gaze was directed at Whitney, inquiring about the situation.

Whitney glanced at Kong Kenan with a foul expression, "It's none of your business. Stay out of it."

Kong Kenan, not knowing the background between Whitney and Soren, assumed they were arguing and said, somewhat confused, "Weren't you guys fine before? You even flew the plane over to rescue Soren, so what's with the anger now?"

Whitney immediately jumped up, his face turning ashen, taking a half step back as if startled, desperately defending his dignity.

"That was just necessary battlefield assistance! Don't spread rumors—our relationship has never been good!"

Seeing Whitney so flustered and eager to correct Kong Kenan's misunderstanding, Soren nearly burst into laughter.

Struggling to hold back his amusement, he mischievously asked, "Alright, if that's the case, do you really not need my help with that stained shirt?"

He pointed to the stain on Whitney's chest.

"I'll clean it by myself!" Whitney said, frustrated.

He practically fled, stepping on his own heels as he hurriedly squeezed past Soren, unwilling to say another word.

Kong Kenan, still puzzled, asked, "What's his deal?"

Soren, barely containing his laughter, patted Kong Kenan's arm. "Ignore him; he's always been like this since he was a kid. So, did you complete your mission today? Just got back?"

Kong Kenan, struggling to balance his tray with one hand, gratefully accepted Soren's assistance, "Yeah, just got back from South Asia…"

Since the Justice League's raid on the Asian refugee camp, the camp had been forcibly dismantled, and all refugees were dispersed.

The Justice League had taken over the management of the camp's jurisdiction.

With nowhere else to go, he had joined the underground base, becoming a member of the facility.

He quickly became familiar with Soren.

It turned out that during his time in Washington, Soren had often exchanged plans with him through Batman, making them inadvertent "pen pals" for a period.

Washington.

Justice League Headquarters.

A massive holographic projection was displayed in the air, and Cyborg was showing Superman the surveillance footage of the Avengers' invasion of the Crab Shell Prison.

Although most of the cameras had quickly lost power, a few had still captured the intruders' figures before the shutdown.

Cyborg selected two video clips and projected them for Superman. "These two clips were recorded at the same time. What's strange is that there are two Spider-Men appearing simultaneously here…"

Superman sat silently in his chair, propping his chin with one hand, and stared expressionlessly at the two video clips.

Cyborg slowed down the footage significantly.

In one clip, Spider-Man was seen walking into an internal transport corridor with Captain America, surveying the surroundings; in the other, Spider-Man was deftly avoiding the patrols' line of sight, making his way towards the power core.

Superman's gaze was fixed on the left video, and a glint of understanding flashed in his eyes.

"Victor," he said heavily, pointing to the left video, "zoom in on this area."

"Sure thing," Cyborg responded, enlarging the specified area several times as instructed.

In the footage, Spider-Man had just dropped from the ceiling, extending eight metallic spider arms from his back to maintain balance, and was facing the direction of the keypad.

Superman silently watched the "Spider-Man" work on the keypad, gradually lowering his hand.

"Soren."

He looked at the figure in the video wearing the Iron Spider suit and spoke a name that left Cyborg stunned.

Cyborg responded in shock, "—Is it him?"

Superman didn't answer.

His Kryptonian-blue eyes showed a layer of misty gray in the shadows.

That was Soren.

He was so familiar with him that just a glance at the way his toes lifted when he walked, or the slight tilt to the left when he crouched, was enough to recognize him without a doubt.

…It had to be Soren.

His Soren.

He stared intently at the person in the video, his gaze almost burning through the holographic projection.

Over a month later, the base received exhilarating news.

—The antidote to the endurance enhancers developed by Iron Man, Batman, and Dr. Banner had finally proven effective.

This meant their leverage against the ruling army had increased again.

They now had another trump card, as if the dawn of victory was within reach.

At the same time, Tony had also produced an additional batch of endurance enhancement pills with similar effects.

However, due to the lack of Kryptonian materials that Superman controlled, this batch of pills could only maintain their effects for a limited period.

Moreover, excessive use of these pills could cause irreversible damage to the human body.

Therefore, they used these pills very cautiously, distributing them only to a select group of warriors for emergencies.

The development of the antidote undoubtedly became a powerful boost for the resistance forces.

More and more people chose to join the ranks of the resistance, and the number of rescue signals sent to them from around the world increased.

There were also more underground shelters and resistance bases being hastily planned and constructed.

Once Soren's shoulder injury healed, Steve began assigning him tasks.

…Steve, having worked with Soren for many years, knew better than anyone that Soren was not the type to hide behind others.

He was a warrior, and to respect him, you had to treat him as an equal to everyone else.

This decision had met with strong opposition from Tony.

Unlike Steve, Tony saw Soren more as a child under his protection.

His strong sense of guardianship over Soren was compounded by the fact that he had once lost him.

Tony wanted to keep Soren in the safest place he could see at all times, rather than let him take on such significant risks out in the field.
