[World Awakening in 00:59]
A holographic screen suddenly appeared in front of me, with a timer that kept on going down. "What is this thing?" a woman in the store asked.
"Get it away from me!"
"Is this some kind of prank?"
"God has made us the chosen ones!"
People around me started shouting out, "Rain, what's happening?" my younger sister asked me. "Don't panic Crystal, we'll figure this out." I tried reassuring her. I looked around me but all I could see were people with confusion on their faces.
[World Awakening in 00:10]
The countdown just kept on going down, I tried keeping a steady mind. Once the countdown hit zero, nothing happened immediately. The screen stayed in front of us, displaying the countdown on zero, and then the lights suddenly went out.
People started panicking and calling out for their loved ones. "Calm down everyone!" a booming voice yelled. "We will figure everything out, and the store's power will be back on in a few minutes. For now, you can switch on your torches and stay inside the store."
People's phones switched on, and my nerves calmed down a little, I could feel my sister's hand squeezing mine. I unlocked my phone and tried to see if it was only the store that had a power outage, but my phone wasn't connected to the internet, and it didn't seem like anyone else around me was.
"Does anyone have service?" a woman shouted out and got replies of everyone shaking their heads, this was when people started panicking.
"I need to call my daughter."
"I have to make sure my family's safe."
"Can someone drive me home?"
"I need to get out of this place."
People started swarming out of the store, some people even going out with unpaid items. The security guards couldn't do anything as it was too many people coming out at once.
As more and more people exited the store, the screen in front of me suddenly disappeared. "Rain, that blue thing is gone." Crystal said while looking up at me, "Okay, I think we can go out then."
Immediately after I said that she squeezed my hand tighter, "Don't, something is coming." she said with fearful eyes. I crouched down to her eye level and tried reassuring her, "There's nothing to worry about..."
Blood-curdling screams were suddenly heard outside. I looked behind me, and the security guards immediately locked the doors and people were banging them, trying to get back inside.
I looked outside and saw the largest bats to ever exist. With a rough estimate, each had a wingspan of 5ft and the height of about 2 adult men. They were coming out of the sky and started eating the people their blood-red eyes landed on.
Out of pure fear, I immediately took Crystal's hand and ran to the back of the store, I was breathing heavily and had tears running down my face, what I had witnessed was straight out of a horror scene.
People soon started following after us pushing against each other in a panick. Once we got there most people had fearful eyes, fearing what would happen next.
"There's another blue floating thing in front of me," Crystal said, "It's showing something different."
That was weird, I didn't have one. I looked around, and it looked like it had happened to a few others, too. "Read it out carefully to me." I told her, "It says [Congratulations on Awakening B-Class Skill Monster Taming] and [System Download Commencing]." She looked up at me with teary eyes, and I wished there was something I could do.
"I am one of God's chosen ones!" a handsome man in his 20s shouted as a golden sword started materializing in his hands. He ran to the exits and ordered the guards to open the doors, after they refused and resisted, he cut one of the guard's hands off, letting out a scream and causing the other one to run away.
He opened the door and ran, one of the bats started chasing him, and before he could realize it, it grabbed him and tore him to shreds, leaving bits and pieces of him to fall to the ground.
After a few seconds of total silence, hundreds of those bats started flying into the store, and people started screaming and running around.
Crystal and I ran to a room that would hopefully be empty. I quickly opened the door, but we found it was full of the store workers, they were all trembling and quiet. We tried to squeeze into the room, but we couldn't, and some workers pushed us out and quickly shut the door.
"Please!" I scram while knocking on the door. "At least let her in!" Tears started rolling down my face again, I had lost all hope to survive but wanted my sister to be able to continue living.
I turned around and held her behind me as the bats started coming towards us, there were three that came.
Up close you could see that their skin was pitch black, with little fur patches, scattered around their body, their eyes were like blood-red beads that held no intelligence or sympathy at all, their claws were large and sharp, and you could feel their hot heavy breath.
In front of me was truly my worst nightmare.
I took a mop stick next to me and swung it indiscriminately, and the bats paid all their attention to me, "Run, Crystal!" I shouted and she ran to the opposite side of the store.
A bat grabbed me and started flying higher, it had me in its claws tight enough so that I couldn't breathe but not die yet. I saw another one rushing for her, and I tried to say something, but all my breath was gone, I saw it grab her quickly and start flying off with her. They did this on purpose, they wanted me to suffer seeing the person I loved most leave me.
I could feel my bones begin to be crushed, and the last thing I saw before my vision turned black was my sister mouthing out the words "Big brother" while the bat flew out with her.
