Wilt heard a gentle snapping sound, and suddenly the infinite white space he was in disappeared, leaving him standing on a cold sidewalk under a cloudy sky.
Although he hadn't entirely believed he would return to life after pressing the button, he had somewhat expected this. But looking around him, something wasn't quite right. He felt around in his pocket for his phone and pulled it out. This was an old phone, and the date displayed on it definitely wasn't right.
"So I guess I went about ten years into the past," He thought to himself, "But it's not ten years exactly, so there must be something important about today."
He flipped through the screens and tapped on the calendar app displaying a color-coded schedule. There was one item on the calendar that was given a bright pink color, making it stand out from the rest: Player Academy Entrance Exam.
He was about to begin making his way towards the Player Academy but then glanced at his reflection in a window. Despite knowing his current age was sixteen, the figure looking back at him appeared to be thirteen or fourteen and had pale skin with white hair to match. His physical features blended all too well with the white cadet uniform, which was the standard of the Player Academy. The irises of his eyes were still a brilliant pink, but other than that, they seemed back to normal.
As he began navigating towards the Player Academy, he tried to get himself mentally back into the mindset of someone his current age.
"I'm Wilt," He thought to himself, "I've been sick for only five years at this point. I'm sixteen and attending the Player Academy. I evidently was also sent back in time after dying because of something called the Gambling System"
As soon as he thought the words, the pink window appeared before him, giving him quite the shock. Instead of displaying the previous death message, this time, it displayed a menu of sorts.
[Gamble]
[Shop]
[Player Stats]
[Info]
He tapped the info button, and a new window appeared.
[Gambling System: Info]
[You may gamble your stats when fighting enemies]
[Upon victory, you will receive the gambled stats multiplied by the chance of victory multiplier, which is automatically calculated by the gambling system to prevent the user from cheating]
[You may also spend your stats at the shop]
[Player Stats displays the current status of the player's abilities]
"Well… I was wondering when the gambling part was going to come into play. I'm just glad it didn't ask for my soul."
He began familiarizing himself with the interface as he kept walking, first going through the "Shop" and then the "Gamble" tab, finally ending on the "Player Stats" tab.
[Player Stats]
[Strength: 2]
[Reaction Speed: 15]
[Endurance: 1]
[Magic Capacity: 4]
[Blank: ?]
All of these stats more or less made sense to him, aside from "Blank" which looked like more of a system error than an actual stat.
As he neared the Academy's entrance, he swiped his hand over the system screen, which vanished without a trace.
"Seems pretty great to be able to check my stats whenever," he thought, "but if I don't get these up in the first few semesters, I'm gonna get kicked out of here again. Either way though, I get the feeling that this life is going to be even more fun than the last one."
And with that, he headed through the crowded gates.
