Chereads / Versatile Mage : Reborn As Mo Fan / Chapter 117 - Chapter 117: The Premature Warning

Chapter 117 - Chapter 117: The Premature Warning

When everyone heard what Mo Fan said, they were all stunned! And for good reason—if Mo Fan was telling the truth, it meant that the ancient capital would face one of the greatest calamities in its history!

The awakening of the Ancient Kings, and the appearance of the Eight Undead Overlords tomorrow? Even though the ancient capital wasn't a small city, trying to fend off these powerful beings would be incredibly difficult. What made it worse was that these undead would relentlessly attack the city even during the day!?

"Young man, how exactly do you know all this?" Lu Huan asked, his skepticism clear.

Neither the Magic Association nor the Judgment Council had received any reports of such dangers. Relying solely on Mo Fan's words seemed hard to believe.

"Trust me, start evacuating the citizens from the outer city to reduce casualties. If you act now, the ancient capital might still have a slim chance of survival, and the damage won't be too severe," Mo Fan looked directly at Han Ji, then added, "If you don't, this city will soon be soaked in blood. If the evacuation isn't fast enough, even your own family won't escape the carnage."

Mo Fan understood why they doubted him. After all, his warning was based on information no one else had received. But he had already provided the best course of action to minimize the city's losses. Whether they believed him was up to Han Ji and the others.

As for Mo Fan, he had his own plans. Tonight, he would follow Zhu Meng and his team into the depths of the cursed abyss. He had confidence in his survival, thanks to the small pendant he always wore, which had never failed him before. The final truth would reveal itself once they crossed the deadly "Nine Bridges to Death."

Mo Fan had no intention of bringing his friends, Fang Gu or Zhang Xiaohou, with him. This was a journey he had to undertake alone.

"Mo Fan, everything you just said..." Zhu Meng began to ask.

"Do you think I'd joke about something like this?" Mo Fan responded with a sharp retort.

Zhu Meng paused for a moment. Indeed, joking about such a serious matter would be absurd. He had seen Mo Fan's character firsthand—this was not someone who took saving lives lightly.

Turning to Han Ji, Zhu Meng added, "I believe him."

Lu Huan, still skeptical, remained unconvinced. No reports had come from either the Judgment Council or the Magic Association. How could Mo Fan's words alone sway them?

Han Ji, on the other hand, hesitated but finally stood up. The recent events, particularly the appearance of the Undead Lords, made him believe there might be some truth in Mo Fan's words. He said, "Mo Fan, I'm willing to trust you. If what you say is true, the ancient capital will owe you a great debt."

"Forget the favor," Mo Fan responded. "Just give me some resources for my training when this is all over."

Han Ji and the others were caught off guard. While they were thinking of gratitude, Mo Fan cared more about practical benefits—resources to strengthen his abilities.

"Fine," Han Ji said after a pause. "If you truly help save the people of the ancient capital, I will personally provide you with valuable cultivation resources and some special items to assist you."

Turning to Zuo Feng, Han Ji ordered, "Mobilize the city's defensive mages, including the inner city guards, the outer wall guards, and the Hunter Alliance. Everyone who isn't on watch duty tonight will assist in evacuating the outer city citizens to the inner city. If anyone questions the evacuation, tell them it's a precautionary drill due to recent anomalies. The drill will end tomorrow night."

Han Ji issued this order as a way to hedge his bets. If nothing happened tomorrow, they could simply explain it as a drill. No real harm done.

Hearing Han Ji's decision, Mo Fan felt a sense of relief. He had come here to prevent a tragedy, and now, it seemed that at least some action would be taken to protect the city's citizens.

Soon, news of the evacuation spread throughout the outer city. As Mo Fan walked through the streets of Bo City, he heard people grumbling and complaining about the sudden disruption.

For a moment, Mo Fan felt a pang of frustration. People are really only moved when they experience the threat of death firsthand. Without that, they never fully understand the gravity of the situation.

But recalling the horrors of the Bo City disaster, Mo Fan knew he couldn't be heartless. He still had to do what he could to save as many as possible. He didn't need their thanks. Besides, if they survived this ordeal, the ancient capital would owe him a significant debt, and Han Ji had already promised resources in return.

As the citizens began evacuating, Mo Fan encountered several of his old classmates from Bo City, including Zhou Min and others.

Upon hearing that Mo Fan had gone to the Bell Tower, Mu Bai had informed Zhou Min and the rest about his actions.

"Mo Fan, what's really going on?" Zhou Min asked anxiously when she saw him.

Mo Fan, seeing no point in hiding the truth any longer, explained the situation as best he could. He shared his suspicions about the Black Vatican, including the shocking revelation that Mu He, who was supposed to be on their side, was actually a high-ranking member of the Black Vatican.

The realization that Bo City had been just a trial run left them all speechless with shock and anger.

"Do you have a plan to stop this?" Mu Bai asked Mo Fan.

"There's a plan, but it'll require Zhang Xiaohou's help," Mo Fan replied. Though he had also entrusted Liu Xian and Liu Ru with tasks, they were somewhat limited in what they could do due to their unique identities. Some things still had to be done by "humans."

"What about Zhang Xiaohou? What happened to him?" the others asked, confused.

"Xiaohou has been infected with a Mind parasite, likely planted by your uncle, Mu He," Mo Fan explained. "He's faking amnesia because he realized there were spies from the Black Vatican among the people of Hua Village. Unfortunately, he doesn't know that the memories he's forgotten are the most critical."

"But where can we find Mu He? And where are you going now?" Zhou Min asked.

Just as they were talking, an urgent flare went up into the sky—a signal for immediate assembly.

Mo Fan cut the conversation short. "I have something important I need to do now. Just remember, whatever happens, you have to protect Zhang Xiaohou at all costs."

Although the others wanted to know more, Mo Fan didn't say anything. Besides, it was obvious that something important was happening when the signal was released.

With that, Mo Fan rushed toward the signal location, leaving his friends behind, who could only watch him go and follow along to the northern city wall.
