Chapter 109 - Chapter 109: Journey to the Ancient Capital

After the Wolf finished its evolution, Mo Fan headed to the Clear Sky Hunter Agency.

"You brat, disappearing for so many days! Do you have any idea how much work you've left for me here?" grumbled the old man, Bao, when he saw Mo Fan.

"Hey, old man Bao, you know I'm still a student." Mo Fan replied casually.

"Haha…" Bao responded with a sarcastic smile.

A student? What kind of student skips classes for an entire year? And who spends the whole year roaming the wilderness?

Even though Bao seemed to mock Mo Fan, deep down he admired this young man's spirit.

"Where's Lingling? I need to handle some bounties. I'm running low on money again," Mo Fan said, ignoring Bao's attitude.

"Lingling's at school. Ever since she got back from the Scorched Plains, she's been complaining about you." Bao replied.

"No worries. Once she sees my current strength and realizes we can hunt higher-level monsters for more advanced bounties, she'll stop being mad at me." Mo Fan said confidently.

Bao couldn't deny it. Lingling, who often worked with Cold Hunter King, did enjoy hunting stronger creatures and taking on tougher bounties. Mo Fan certainly knew how to play to her desires.

After chatting a bit more, Lingling returned, and Mo Fan asked her to organize the bounty tasks. He wanted to get started right away.

Though Lingling had been fuming earlier, once she heard Mo Fan's plan to take on the bounties, her anger faded quickly. She even pulled out her notebook.

With a flurry of keyboard typing, she turned to Mo Fan, pouting slightly. "I've already got everything sorted!"

"Wow, Lingling, you're truly the MVP of the hunter world!" Mo Fan said, clearly pleased.

Lingling, with her adorable puffed cheeks, simply ignored his flattery and gave him a playful eye-roll.

In less than ten days, Mo Fan had completed all the bounties that had piled up at the Clear Sky Hunter Agency. However, despite finishing them efficiently, the pay wasn't great—only around 40 million yuan. Most of the jobs were for mid-level mages, so the income wasn't high.

To be honest, if it weren't for the reputation of the Clear Sky Hunter Agency, Mo Fan would've avoided taking on these time-consuming and low-paying jobs.

Just after he wrapped up the bounties, Mo Fan received news that Zhang Xiaohou had gotten into trouble in the Ancient Capital. Although he knew that Xiaohou was likely still alive, the life of a battle mage was always at risk, facing death with every encounter with monsters.

It was just the fate of battle mages.

Sighing softly, Mo Fan decided to bring along the sisters, Liu Xian and Liu Ru, to the Ancient Capital. They had been idle for some time since the situation in the Magic City was under control.

Even before becoming vampires, the sisters had a graceful beauty, which probably attracted many admirers. Now, as vampires, their physical appearance had transformed—no longer thin and frail, they embodied a perfect balance between youthful innocence and mature allure. They exuded a mysterious charm that was both pure and seductive, elegant yet sensual.

Most notably, the sisters still looked identical.

Having two women like this was nothing short of bliss for Mo Fan.

While he hadn't spent much time with them, every time they were together, it felt like being bewitched by these enchanting "little demons."

Unlike typical vampires, they emitted no unpleasant odor; instead, they had a natural fragrance that could easily captivate any man. Their youthful, vibrant skin only enhanced this allure.

Becoming vampires had given these once ordinary twin sisters an air of noble mystery.

On the flight to the Ancient Capital, Liu Xian and Liu Ru took turns entertaining Mo Fan, making the long journey far less tedious.

The trip, which might have been boring, turned into something much more pleasant thanks to the sisters, who had clearly been learning new things during their time with him.

As the plane descended, the clouds were thick and dark, blocking out the sun. Though it wasn't raining, the entire world seemed covered in a gloomy haze. The season's gray tones and bare trees made everything feel lifeless.

The last plane landed amidst the stormy clouds, signaling that this was the final group of travelers daring enough to come to this troubled city.

Stepping off the plane, Mo Fan couldn't help but remark, "Fate really likes to play tricks on us."

"What do you mean?" asked Liu Ru.

"It's nothing." Mo Fan shook his head. He couldn't very well say that Death himself had arrived to claim more lives—it would be inappropriate.

"Excuse me, all passengers need to show identification and state the purpose of their visit." a uniformed officer at the exit said, stopping Mo Fan and his companions.

"???" Both Liu Xian and Liu Ru were taken aback by the interruption. While they were ordinary sisters in some ways but they had not flown before and had never encountered such a situation.

"Just visiting. These two are my girlfriends, and their identities are private." Mo Fan replied casually.

The sisters didn't object to Mo Fan's words. After all, in their time with him, they had indeed played the role of "girlfriends."

The uniformed officer was visibly stunned by Mo Fan's bluntness—he'd never seen someone so openly flaunt having two girlfriends. But considering the appearance of these women, it was clear they weren't ordinary people. However, since neither Liu Xian nor Liu Ru were legally deceased, they passed the inspection easily.

Once inside the city, it was clear the Ancient Capital was on high alert. A massive wall surrounded the outer district. Xi'an's old city walls, which once enclosed the city center, were now part of a larger fortified zone. The areas beyond the old walls—such as Yan Tower and the Forest of Steles—had been merged into the new defense perimeter.

This new outer wall, significantly larger than the old city walls, spanned five times the original area, forcing all residents from the outskirts and suburbs to move within its boundaries.

Compared to Mo Fan's last visit, the city had undergone a dramatic transformation.

"I've never seen such a massive defensive perimeter before," remarked Liu Xian, gazing up at the towering wall that stretched endlessly like a mountain ridge.

Liu Xian had always been on the move, partly to support her sister Liu Ru's studies, so she had visited various places. But nothing she'd seen compared to the scale of the defenses here.

"They say this is the largest defense barrier in the country, but honestly, that's being modest. Even by global standards, this is one of the largest," Mo Fan said.

It wasn't an exaggeration. The Ancient Capital's defensive perimeter was among the biggest in the world, capable of withstanding threats even beyond ordinary beasts—like the ancient undead rulers that plagued the region.
