Yu Ang was completely overwhelmed. He couldn't comprehend how Mo Fan had improved so much in such a short period. A dual-element mage at mid-level stage three? Even someone as gifted as Mu Ningxue couldn't compare, let alone the heirs of major families.
"Yu Ang, you've missed your last chance to stay alive," Mo Fan remarked casually after easily defeating Yu Ang's Cursed Abomination.
"No, please don't kill me! I can tell you who the Blue-clad Deacon is." Yu Ang pleaded desperately, clinging to any chance for survival.
"Oh? Tell me then. If the information is accurate, I might consider sparing you." Mo Fan said, pretending to think it over.
"His name is Zhang Meng." Yu Ang immediately spilled, giving details about Zhang Meng's whereabouts and activities, as well as other connections within the church, though he wasn't aware of their specific names.
"Good. Let's hope that information buys you some mercy." Mo Fan said while pinning Yu Ang down with several shadow nails, immobilizing him.
Mo Fan tried contacting Tang Yue, but her phone was unavailable. Left with no choice, he contacted Old Bao since Lingling was still at school. He briefed Old Bao about the church's involvement.
"Are you sure about this information?" Old Bao asked, clearly concerned.
"I've captured one of the church's lackeys from the Bo City incident." Mo Fan responded.
"Alright, I'll get in touch with the Tribunal right away."
"Just let me know once it's confirmed." Mo Fan added.
Late that night, Mo Fan received a call from Old Bao, confirming that the Blue-clad Deacon had been arrested, and the Tribunal was already working to dismantle the church's influence.
"Mo Fan, I've told you everything I know. Can you let me go now?" Yu Ang begged. Having failed his mission, he knew the church would not take him back, especially after he betrayed the Blue-clad Deacon. But as long as he stayed alive, it was enough for him.
"Let you go?" Mo Fan laughed mockingly. "Since when did you become so naïve? And did you really tell me everything?"
"W-what do you mean?" Yu Ang stammered.
Mo Fan grabbed him by the throat, sneering. "You didn't mention Mu He, did you?"
Yu Ang's face turned pale. He was stunned. He hadn't expected Mo Fan to know about Mu He.
Selling out the Blue-clad Deacon was one thing. After all, Yu Ang was a small fry who could slip away unnoticed. But betraying Mu He? That was unthinkable. If he did, Salan would obliterate his very soul. It was a consequence too terrifying to consider.
"What... What are you talking about?"
"You know... Great Deacon Hu Jin, right? Why are you so nervous?" Mo Fan asked mockingly.
Yu Ang was speechless. He had no idea how Mo Fan knew about Hu Jin.
"Actually, I've known about it all along." Mo Fan said. "The only reason I didn't kill you earlier was because I needed the Blue-Clothed Deacon's name. Now that I've got it, you're no longer useful."
With that, Mo Fan channeled a bolt of lightning into Yu Ang's body.
The lightning wasn't a fatal strike but a slow, torturous punishment. Without any defenses, Yu Ang's body was gradually destroyed from the inside out. The lightning strike wasn't a quick death—it was excruciating, like a prolonged form of execution.
About half an hour later, Yu Ang's body was reduced to a pile of broken bones, his form limp on the ground. Mo Fan finished the job by throwing a ball of flames at his remains.
Even in death, Mo Fan made sure Yu Ang's remains were completely incinerated. For someone like Yu Ang, it might have been considered a mercy, considering the amount of magical energy Mo Fan had expended.
The next day, Mo Fan received a call from Tang Yue.
"Mo Fan... you..." she began.
"I tried contacting you last night, but your phone was off, so I had to inform the Clear Sky Hunters Agency." Mo Fan explained.
"I'm not blaming you for that," Tang Yue replied with a sigh. "I just…"
"I understand what you're saying, but the church was after me. This isn't something I can just run away from. Even if I avoided it for now, I can't escape forever. Besides, I ran into Yu Ang."
Tang Yue was silent for a moment before sighing. She knew Mo Fan was right. Being targeted by the church was something that couldn't be ignored, and running away wasn't a long-term solution.
"I'm just glad you're safe." Tang Yue finally said.
"When are you coming to Magic City?" Mo Fan asked, changing the subject. He was definitely looking forward to seeing his teacher again. Mostly, though, he wanted to repay his debt to her—no ulterior motives, of course.
"Thanks to you, everything's already been taken care of. What would I need to come for?" Tang Yue teased, sensing Mo Fan's hidden agenda.
Mo Fan was left speechless.
"Damn, maybe I dealt with Yu Ang a little too quickly." Mo Fan muttered to himself.
"Take care of yourself, okay? I've got other tasks to handle." Tang Yue said before hanging up, leaving Mo Fan frustrated and powerless.
With the church's presence rooted out, Mo Fan didn't receive much recognition, but he was quietly rewarded by both the Tribunal and the school.
The rewards weren't particularly significant, but they did give him another seven days in the Three-Step Pagoda.
While the time wasn't as valuable as his first visit, it still provided a significant boost.
From then on, Mo Fan focused on his cultivation. The path of magic was long and monotonous. Many people grow tired of studying, seeing it as a dull and tedious task. But the truth is, repetition—whether it's something you're passionate about or not—becomes tiresome after doing it year-round without a break.
It's not that people dislike learning; they just struggle to tame their desire for distraction and fun. In Mo Fan's world, he realized the same applied to magic. Once the initial excitement faded with time, the only thing keeping him from wasting even a minute was his determination to grow stronger.
Even when the days seemed endless, Mo Fan pressed on.
