Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Dark Night and the Winds of Vengeance

The night was pitch black, and the wind howled through the streets.

Gu Changqing left the Xiao family estate, changed into a set of dark clothing, and made his way toward the Oba family residence.

His mission was to seek vengeance for the ambush earlier that afternoon. Given that the Oba family was colluding with Murray, their continued existence in Utan City was no longer justifiable.

Meanwhile, Xiao Xun'er slept soundly on Gu Changqing's bed, her head nestled on a pillow. Gu Changqing had cast a sleep spell over her and set up a small defensive array in the room. It would be nearly impossible for anyone to enter without her waking up, and Gu Changqing would be alerted immediately if that happened.

Ling Ying, the only person keeping watch over Xiao Xun'er and Gu Changqing's courtyard, had noticed Gu Changqing's departure. Despite not being stationed in their courtyard, he was able to observe their movements closely. Ling Ying, concerned for Gu Changqing's safety, decided to follow him.

Gu Changqing soon arrived at the Oba family's mansion, one of the three major families in Utan City. The mansion was vast, located by the Utan River, the largest river in the city, and was notorious for its underground casinos and brothels.

Determined to wipe out the Oba family, Gu Changqing made no effort to conceal his presence. He advanced directly towards the most heavily guarded areas.

"Who goes there?"

Two fighter guards of the Oba family were the first to confront him.

Without a word, Gu Changqing unleashed a cyan flying sword that streaked through the night sky, beheading both guards before they could even react.

"Who dares to invade the Oba family?"

The commotion attracted several mid-level fighters from the mansion, who rushed out with a group of guards.

"Die!" Gu Changqing's response was swift and brutal. The cyan flying sword darted among the crowd, slicing through both fighters and guards alike without hesitation.

"Impudent!"

A powerful fighter from the mansion charged toward Gu Changqing, roaring with anger.

With a mere gesture, Gu Changqing directed the cyan flying sword to pierce the throat of the enraged fighter.

The fighter, mortally wounded, could barely comprehend his fate as he clutched his neck in disbelief. He tried to utter a final plea, but his words were cut short as he fell to the ground, lifeless.

"Enemy attack! Inform the patriarch! The four elders have been slain!"

A few survivors from the Oba family shouted in terror, but their cries were abruptly silenced as their heads and bodies were severed by Gu Changqing's relentless assault.

Gu Changqing moved through the mansion like a force of nature. Rivers of blood flowed in his wake, and anyone who attempted to obstruct his path met a swift and violent end.

"Please, spare us! If we've offended you in any way, the Oba family is willing to make amends a hundredfold. Just spare our lives!"

The patriarch of the Oba family and several Great Dou Masters, alarmed by the devastation, rushed to confront Gu Changqing, hoping to negotiate.

"Die!"

In the darkness, Gu Changqing's voice was cold and indifferent. A cyan flying sword descended from the sky, cutting through the crowd with terrifying precision.

"I will fight you!"

"Everyone, flee! Escape while you can!"

"Elders, rally together and fight! We must give our people a chance to escape!"

Obappa, the patriarch of the Oba family, was driven by fear and desperation as he charged at Gu Changqing.

Whoosh!

Despite the fierce resistance, it was futile against Gu Changqing's might. Obappa was swiftly impaled through the neck by the cyan flying sword.

The sword continued its deadly dance, its light illuminating the night sky in a chilling display of power.

"Run!"

"Flee as far as you can!"

Several elders who had initially considered resisting were now fleeing in terror, scattering in every direction. Gu Changqing's cyan flying sword pursued them with unerring accuracy, severing their heads one by one.

Members of the Oba family, driven to desperation, knelt and begged for mercy, but Gu Changqing remained unmoved. The sword light flashed, and more blood was spilled.

By the time Gu Changqing departed from the Oba family mansion, the once-bustling estate had become a nightmarish scene of carnage.

"Good heavens! Young Master Changqing, what kind of power is this? It's truly terrifying!"

Ling Ying, who had been covertly observing, was struck with a chill of fear. Despite his superior realm, the sheer ferocity of Gu Changqing's assault left him trembling.

Ling Ying's anxiety escalated as he saw Gu Changqing approaching with a relaxed demeanor.

"Ah, Young Master Changqing, could it be that I am next? But I am on your side…"

Ling Ying's panic grew as he pondered his options. As he debated, Gu Changqing's calm voice echoed through the night.

"Do not tell Sister Xun'er about tonight. I'd hate for her to worry."

"You killed them," Gu Changqing added succinctly before his figure flickered and vanished into the darkness.

Ling Ying wiped nonexistent sweat from his brow, muttering to himself, "It's not usually this brutal."

"Otherwise, I might say a certain young master who has a fondness for me dealt with these guards."

Ling Ying's muttered words were barely audible as he tried to regain his composure.

After leaving the Oba family mansion, Gu Changqing proceeded to Miaoxianglou, intending to eliminate both Oba Tuo and Mo Li. To his dismay, he only found Obato there, with Mo Li nowhere in sight.

"Who are you? I am a direct disciple of the Oba family. If you dare lay a finger on me, the Oba family will not forgive you!"

Oba Tuo, just pulled from his bed, confronted Gu Changqing with a mix of defiance and fear.

Without a word, Gu Changqing's fingers moved, and a cyan long sword hovered menacingly at Oba Tuo neck.
