The Eight Gates Technique is a powerful form of ninjutsu.
However, for most ninjas, including Tsunade, this technique is often seen as something not very useful but also too valuable to discard.
Only someone like Might Duy, who had no talent for ninjutsu and focused entirely on physical strength and endurance, was truly suited for this forbidden technique. He could endure the constant, grueling training needed to push his body to the absolute limit.
It's important to note that even though ninjas are far stronger than regular people and possess chakra, they still have physical limitations.
Once the body reaches a certain level, physical growth slows down. In this nearly stagnant stage, how many ninjas are willing to keep pushing themselves through intense training, risking their lives to break through these limits and improve their physical capabilities?
For most ninjas, it's already an achievement to maintain their current strength.
"This technique didn't come from the Nara Clan, did it?" Tsunade rolled up the scroll on the table.
"It came from a Genin ninja named Might Duy," Nara Kagetsu replied honestly, sharing his entire interaction with Might Duy with Tsunade.
"You're quite resourceful," Tsunade snorted, not giving much of an opinion on Kagetsu's actions.
The value of what Kagetsu offered was hard to compare with the Eight Gates technique. It was unclear who got the better deal.
To Kagetsu, this forbidden technique was something he couldn't personally learn, but he could use it for reference.
For Might Duy, this technique could help set a strong foundation for his son, Might Guy, while reducing the physical risks that came with using it.
In essence, both sides got what they wanted.
Tsunade clearly saw this and gave her own assessment. She had a lot of trust in the Nara Clan's intelligence, and while she didn't like scheming, she didn't mind this kind of thoughtful strategy.
"Does this forbidden technique really not help you at all?" Kagetsu waved the Eight Gates scroll in his hand.
"It depends on how you see it," Tsunade replied, continuing to answer questions diligently as always.
"If I were purely a taijutsu specialist or used taijutsu as my main form of attack, then yes, this forbidden technique would suit me.
At the very least, I could use it in a desperate situation to turn the tide of battle.
But I'm not. I have my own fighting style, and forcing this technique into my combat strategy wouldn't help much. It would only waste my time and energy.
Unless I could open at least seven of the Eight Gates, it wouldn't be worth it. What this technique can do, I can already achieve with less strain and for a longer duration.
It wouldn't make me stronger; instead, it would just be an unnecessary burden.
Of course, if it were Orochimaru, he wouldn't bother learning this technique, but he would probably be delighted to keep it as a rare collectible."
"What if it were improved a bit?" Kagetsu asked softly.
Tsunade, who was about to say something else, suddenly stopped and stared at Kagetsu's calm but slightly youthful face.
"You really are like Orochimaru," Tsunade chuckled, her smile neither approving nor disapproving, neither warm nor cold.
Just like my second grandfather, she thought to herself.
After the smile faded, Tsunade looked at Kagetsu, who was still waiting for a response, and in a rare moment, reached out to ruffle his spiky hair, messing it up.
"Are you planning to help?" Kagetsu's eyes lit up. He didn't mind that Tsunade had messed up his hair. All he could think was that if Tsunade joined, his project's chances of success would become much stronger.
When it came to medical ninjutsu and the secrets of the human body, no one was more knowledgeable or experienced than Tsunade.
If they could also bring in his teacher, Orochimaru, who had deep knowledge of ninjutsu and chakra, even though the team was small, it would be far more powerful than the old elders of the Nara clan.
So, hearing Tsunade's tone, Kagetsu made up his mind—he had to convince her to join the team.
"That depends on whether your idea can impress me," Tsunade said, pouring herself a drink. She gulped it down and exhaled with satisfaction.
"I want to modify it into a new jutsu. Or rather, I want to borrow part of the Eight Gates and extract its core, turning it into the foundation of a different technique.
This new technique would be called Blood Armor! It would use chakra to fill the Chakra Pathway, enhancing physical strength and overall power."
As Kagetsu spoke, he stepped forward and clearly explained his entire plan to Tsunade.
The Eight Gates is a technique that removes the body's limits on chakra, allowing excess energy to be released.
Within the Chakra Pathway system, there are eight Tenketsus that suppress and control chakra: the Gate of Opening, Gate of Healing, Gate of Life, Gate of Pain, Gate of Limit, Gate of View, Gate of Wonder, and Gate of Death.
These gates place limits on the body's chakra, but the technique forces the chakra to go beyond these limits, unlocking strength tens of times greater than usual.
However, opening each gate puts a massive strain on the body.
Kagetsu didn't plan to copy the Eight Gates entirely or even improve it. In fact, the jutsu was already near perfection.
If the damage it caused were reduced, it would break the foundation of the technique and greatly weaken its power.
After all, even Might Guy, who had studied the technique for twenty years, couldn't lessen its strain on the body. Kagetsu didn't believe he could make it any more perfect than it already was.
What he wanted to do was exactly what he explained to Tsunade—extract part of the technique as the foundation of a new jutsu, creating a completely different path that better suited him.
"So, it's a combination of two techniques, one for active offence and one for passive defence?" Tsunade, who hadn't been that interested at first, couldn't help but become intrigued after hearing Kagetsu's idea.
She was even surprised to find that many aspects of Kagetsu's idea matched her own thoughts or were very similar!
This meant that his idea could even provide some inspiration for her own research.
