Chapter 1 - Prologue

"...and that is how the Egyptians mummified the dead, enjoy your lunch!" Professor Grims said with a hearty chuckle. "He always has a sense of humor," Jack thought. As he packed up he looked back and noticed a girl sitting behind him had a very nauseous look. "Ugh, she looks like she is about to hurl. You can't handle a very in-depth description of human mummification?" Jack smiled, "Yeah that probably makes sense to a normal person." After slipping his tablet into his bag, he zipped it shut on his way out the door. "YO JACK! YOU COMING TO THE SALVAGE GET-TOGETHER TONIGHT?!" Jack looked over to his left to see his friend JP. They played a lot of Star Citizen together and even made an organization together, The Guardians of the Universe. JP hurried on over to Jack so he didn't have to yell.

"Ok bro, so the crew was talking and we are going to the Yela asteroid belt, and do panel salvaging out there. We know that there will be pirates, but we can handle our own. If everyone shows up the could be like ten dudes, eight in vultures and two driving the C2s." Jack was excited, he always gets giddy at the guys getting together to do salvage runs.

"Well, you think that will be enough firepower? I could always bring my Corsair and add more guns to the mix." Jack grinned from ear to ear, he was the kind of guy to bring an LMG to a stealth mission just to hold down the trigger when things went south. Some would say he craved chaos a little too much.

"I guess, the more guns the better I suppose. However, you can't start combat unless you or anyone else in the party gets shot first. Remember the Ghost Hollow incident?"

"WHAT?! Bro, that was forever ago!"

"It was two days ago..."

"W...well... we still survived," Jack said with an unconvincing grin.

"Barely..."

Based on JP's tone of voice, Jack might as well give up, this was a battle he was not going to win. After dropping his head in defeat he agreed to the terms. JP chuckled and patted Jack on the shoulder, "It's ok bud. knowing Yela, you'll get your action." They both laughed and walked towards the dining hall. While eating, two of Jack's roommates walked up and joined them. "Hey Jack, did you get the reading for our history class done, my books haven't shown up yet." Jack after taking a second to think about the reading assignment nodded, "Yeah, you can use it, it's on top of my laptop."

"Alright I need to be quick," Jack stated as he snarfed down his lunch, "I have something amazing to pick up."

JP gave a confusing look to Jack. "What are you picking up?"

"My new graphics card for my pc, It is the last piece I need for my new PC!" Jack said as he ran out of the mess hall giving JP a high five.

After picking up the graphics card from the store and driving home, Jack sprinted inside his apartment with the precious cargo under his coat to protect it from the rain. "Dude where did this storm come from, it was supposed to be nice today." Jack picked up his half-built pc, put the SSD from his laptop in the motherboard, and then carefully slotted the graphic card into the PCI slot. "Alright, all I have to do is plug the two eight-pin connectors from the PSU." After plugging the first eight connectors to the GPU jack grabbed the last connector to finish his build. Then bright lights started flashing outside Jack's window. He whipped his head up to observe the window as a bolt of cyan lightning shot through the glass and struck his pc. The massive jolt of energy threw Jack back into the wall. Blood dripped down his face as he started seizing on the ground. Another flash of cyan light swelled the room, Jack felt his body getting lighter. He was sure that he was about to die, or at least that is what it felt like, he had never died before. Then a third and final flash of light filled the room and then everything went black.
