In this world, humanity's greatest power comes from two sources: magic and karma.
Those blessed with magic by the ancient gods are seen as the embodiment of divine will, walking the stars with powers beyond mere mortals. Known as the Celestial Magus, they are the rulers of the world, the keepers of balance, and the protectors of an order that has endured for centuries.
However, beneath their calm surface lies another, no less deadly force: karma, an energy that emanates from the spirit and soul, connecting humanity to a mysterious and dark supernatural force. Those who master karma can manipulate spirits, channel the power of ancestors, and fight in realms that even the most powerful wizards cannot reach. The wielders of this power are known as Shamans, once revered as legends, but now relegated to the shadows after the Celestial Magus took control.
For centuries, the Celestial Magus held absolute power, erasing the Shamans from history and banishing them. The world succumbed to magic, and karma was considered nothing more than an ancient legend, a force lost in the mists of time.
But karma never truly dies.
It resides in forgotten souls, waiting for the right moment to rise again. In the shadows, spirits begin to whisper, signaling the awakening of a once-feared power. As the conflict between magic and karma boils over again, the world faces a threat that has not been seen for thousands of years.
Renfil, December 19, 1667
A young man named Rei Delford, 16 years old, was shopping at a grocery store at night. After he finished, he went to the park and sat on a swing. While enjoying the food he had just bought, Rei's gaze fell on a mysterious box that suddenly appeared on the swing seat next to him. Curious, he touched the box. Instantly, the box glowed and disappeared without a trace.
Since that incident, Rei no longer dared to come to the park. A week had passed, but thoughts of the mysterious box continued to haunt him. One night, as usual, he went to buy food at his favorite shop. When he came out of the shop, he suddenly found himself in a dark forest, with an old temple looming behind him.
The old temple seemed to be calling his name. Confused and frightened Rei tried to find a way out, but couldn't find one. A rustling sound was suddenly heard, and from the shadows emerged a living skeleton that walked towards him. Rei immediately ran towards the old temple, but the skull couldn't get close because it was blocked by an invisible barrier that protected the temple area.
"Hey, kid. Can you please release me from this seal?" A hoarse voice was heard from behind Rei.
Rei turned around and saw a muscular man, shirtless, with terrible wounds on his face, bound in chains inside the temple.
"Who are you?" Rei asked, his voice shaking.
"I am Kuroyasha, the spirit of the black dragon demon who was sealed thousands of years ago," the man replied in a low voice. "Free me, and I will answer all your questions."
Rei stared doubtfully, but his curiosity overcame his fear. Kuroyasha explained that he had messed up the world thousands of years ago and was sealed by a legendary Shaman. Kuroyasha's power was sealed in a black box with ancient spells written on it.
Suddenly, light burst out of Rei's chest, forming the box he had previously found in the garden. Kuroyasha smiled widely as he looked at the box. "It's mine," he said. "Give it to me, and I'll be free."
Rei handed the box over with some hesitation. When Kuroyasha touched it, it glowed brightly, and the ancient spells on its surface began to fade. The chains that bound Kuroyasha slowly fell away, freeing him.
Kuroyasha laughed, his eyes turning evil. "It's been a long time since I've seen a human… it seems you could be the first victim of the destruction I will bring," he said as he transformed his hands into scaly dragon claws. He tried to attack Rei, but his attacks were ineffective. Kuroyasha was shocked.
"What happened?" he muttered.
Suddenly, he remembered the curse given by the legendary Shaman: "One day, someone will break your seal, and at that time you will be bound to that person. You must become his follower."
"Damn, I'm trapped in a curse!" Kuroyasha growled inwardly. "I can't hurt this child… for now."
Kuroyasha turned around, lowering his head. "I'm sorry, kid. I was just joking. From now on, I'm your retainer."
Rei was confused by those words. "Wait, what do you mean by retainer?" Rei asked. However, Kuroyasha explained that since Rei had freed him, he must now be loyal to Rei, albeit reluctantly.
With the help of Kuroyasha, Rei uses the karmic energy that has now awakened within him and manages to return to the city of Renfil. However, upon arriving in Renfil, four mysterious figures block his way. One of them, a white-haired man with a cloth covering his left eye, stares at Rei, causing him to pass out.
When Rei wakes up, he finds himself tied up in a strange room filled with photographs of unknown people, all with the word "finished" written underneath.
