Chapter 4 - Novice to Swordsman Part Two

The full-moon glowed with a crimson tint at its edge. A being in all white sat atop a tree hanging over a cliff. Below is the forest of leafless trees. "So, they're finally making their move. Soon the Blood-Moon will eclipse the sun." the being proclaimed as it stretched its wings and disappeared into the night.

Meanwhile, deep within the thick vegetation Hitori lurked, stalking his dinner as his chest tightens. "Come on, take the bait" Hitori whispered whilst shivering. The bushes path. A paw reached out of the bushes, and dragged the rabbit meat out of site. Hitori launches out of his hiding spot, however, a paralyzing shock was discharged from the partially bloodied bush. His muscles stiffened and his body became limp. From the bush came a yellow feline striped black. It had two distinct saber-fangs and green eyes. "What the hell, my body won't, is this really how I die? Really?" The cat stood over Hitori and slashed his left eye. Overwhelmed by the force of the blow he fell unconscious...

As sharp rocks press against his back, he opened his eye only to realize half of his vision was black. The pain of his damaged eye settled in. "Why am I here? Am I a sacrifice to this thing? Hitori watched as it devoured a dead wolf with minimal effort. Its pupils were thin and emotionless. At the corner of his eye Hitori spotted his sword half-buried in a pile of rodent carcasses. He inched towards it. As he dislodged it cautiously, one of the rodents fell from the top. The behemoth turned but there was nothing out of the ordinary.

I've trained so much but, l..." His hands trembled at the thought of coming face to face with it. Hitori swallowed his fear and came out of hiding. As he stood in front of the scaly mass he recalled his Sensei's instructions.

"To use Ethos, you need to channel your mana into it. The more mana you feed it the sharper it becomes." The serpent locked eyes with his, its eyes were like a predatory glare. The small monsters fled the area in a mass panic. "I won't live in fear of you anymore. Come at me with everything you got!" Hitori exclaimed as a faint aura encased the blade. The serpent coiled up and shot towards him. Hitori lifted Ethos and swiftly swung it down, hitting the serpent head on.
