Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Departure

"It's not only the hair color that has changed, your eyes are as deep colored as the ocean." Zari said. "I just changed a few moments ago. I can't tell the difference." I said. "So that was your new form? It is very powerful. Do you mind letting me have a look?" she asked. "Sure. Maybe you can tell me how it looks in detail." I answered. I turned to the dragon form and began inspecting my body. Zari did the same but this time in human form. "Your tail is very thick. It seems very strong." Zari shouted. I looked at the tail and it was indeed thicker than the previous one. It was certainly going to hurt being hit with it. "Your glowing scales. I think they accumulate damage when you are hit." Zari said as she punched them. They glowed more fiercely with each hit.

[The glowing scales turn the kinetic impacts from all over the body to electrical energy which is used to substitute mana and launch lightning attacks.]

Wow that sounds like a very powerful skill. "Chrono, can you still use all the other elements?" Zari shouted. I had not tried this before so I started with a fire attack, then light attacks and the rest. Everything worked perfectly and I would even say that my aiming had improved considerably. "This new form is very strong though a little smaller than you usual form. What do you call it?" Zari asked. "I am now a thunder dragon." I said as I shot a lightning attack at the sky. I then turned back to my human form. "So by the way, what are you doing here?" I asked. "I was observing and following some spiders. I was aiming to track them back to their hideout but I had no idea they were coming here." Zari answered. "I was toying with one of the big spiders and I suspect that it asked for help from the others. Apparently the bigger spiders can communicate with others of their kind." I said. We continued talking about what Zora her brother had discovered. We talked about the Temple trials. "Are you serious? You were beaten that easily? You?" Zari asked in a shocked manner. I mean if FC was the best version of me, which meant his evolution was at the optimum level, a normal elemental dragon had no option but to lose. We talked and talked till day break. Zari's subordinates were all over the continent dealing with spiders and she estimated that over 1000 spiders had been dealt with. "Do you think this horde was the last of them?" Zari asked. "I am not sure. But I think that it was the majority of them." I said. "Dragon Lord Chrono, you were truly magnificent last night. The rest of the soldiers and I were shocked and amazed to witness your dragon form." Luton said. He managed to use shadow movement to appear right next to me. They saw that? Well it does not matter because I am not going back to the temple in the near future. I am only at the first stage of dragon evolution hence expecting to win against FC is wishful thinking. "Who is this?" Zari asked. "Zari meet Luton my disciple. Luton, this is Zari the dragon princess." I said. Luton bowed his head and moved to observe the aftermath. I was curious as well and for the first time, I looked around the battlefield. It was badly damaged with a large trench extending several kilometers. There were also hundreds of craters caused by the individual lightning attacks all over the battlefield. "You sure did not hold back." Zari said as we checked the aftermath. I used earth magic to try and rectify the land and used the ability drya to grow some vegetation all over. "Well the land looks healthier now but I don't know what you will do about that hill over there. The side is completely torn." Zari said. "You should leave it master. That would serve as a memoir to future generations about the time they were saved by the great dragon lord Chrono." Luton said. "Yes that would be really cool. Have stories about you passed down through generations." Zari added. I remembered the evolution ladder to being a god from the priestess. I was a National Hero, if I could evolve to World Hero and be known all over the world, which would be beneficial. "In that case, I need this people to see and remember the dragon that saved them." I said. I turned into dragon form and flew over the capital city. I let Luton ride on top of me to try and minimize the fear from the people. That did not help, screams were heard as they looked above the sky. "That is a dragon." "I told you. We were saved by dragons yesterday." "My god there's two of them." Two? I looked behind me and saw Zari following me in her dragon form. This will create an even larger spectacle, just as I wanted. We flew in circles a bit before we landed on a flat area with no buildings around. People were terrified of us and stayed a safe distance away. However, their curiosity could not let them lock themselves away but instead, they observed us at a distance. Soon, I saw carriages coming towards us. Very flashy carriages befitting royalty. "Dragon Lord Chrono. I thank you for protecting our city." The queen knelt as soon as she got out of her carriage. The prince, king and other people I did not recognize also did the same. Perhaps seeing this, the crowd started to come nearer. I used Sound Magic to amplify and modify my voice. A normal dragon voice was too deep and I did not want to make the crowd terrified of me. I made my voice less deep and clearer. "I am Dragon Lord Chrono, the disciple of the god of war. I come to you in the name of peace and cooperation. There is a powerful foe on this land that threatens the very order of things. Cooperation among your kin is the only way to survive. From today onwards, I ban warring activities among your neighbors. If you do not heed my warning, I will be back." I said as I started flying away. For the time being, I did not have any need for the temple because my strength was quite low relative to FC. Zari followed behind me and Luton was left behind. This was not a problem because we had agreed to meet at the Orthon Kingdom.

[Your body needs to acclimate being a thunder dragon before evolving. This process will take six months.]

Well it seems I can't rush the process.

"Sir Chrono was really a dragon?" The prince asked. I had just flown away with Zari at this point and kicked up a large volume of dust. "Cough cough. Is that what he meant that he was distant relatives with my dragons? They don't look anything alike. He is much larger and more powerful. " The queen said. "Indeed. I was there last night. The cries of the dragon lord pierced the sky and he called upon a lightning barrage like none seen before." The King said. Luton was observing the conversation while standing before the queen and his people. He decided to move forward and steer the conversation. "Pardon me but my master has something to pass on. First is that this temple should be protected and cherished. Two, this kingdom shall not wage wars against its neighbors but instead cooperate to drive out the spiders. Final thing is that the population shall remember and commemorate this day as the time Dragon Lord Chrono Silva the thunder dragon, saved this kingdom. That is all." With that, Luton used shadow movement and disappeared from the scene. I had not told him to add anything to my statement, this was likely done to prevent any confusion and enhance clarity.

"Hey, Zari. Let's fly around in this form attracting more spiders." I said. "Exactly what im talking about." Zari answered enthusiastically. We flew around in our dragon form all around the continent looking for spiders. "I see one. Look there." Zari said. I looked at the direction she was hinting and saw a group of around three spiders. "I see them. Let's not kill them immediately. Let them call for reinforcements first." I said. We landed next to the spiders in dragon for but they began running away. Zari reacted quickly and froze the ground. The spiders were caught on the ice and could not move their legs. This was a perfect execution because now their cries for help might lure other spiders here. We waited for over two hours before any significant development occurred. A group of around 500 low level and mid-level spiders appeared and began moving to our direction. "Freeze the ground again." I said. A layer of ice about I meter thick formed on the ground. The three previous spiders were now immobilized and their whole bodies were under ice. Zari did a marvelous job and in a few moment, all the spiders were immobilized. "Are you trying to lure all the spiders in this area?" Zari asked. "Yes. I am trying to lure the general and see if it's in this continent." I answered. We waited for over five hours before running out of patience. "I think this is all the spiders that are left here." I said. "If that's the case then allow me." Zari said. She used her dragon flame and attacked the spiders stuck on the frozen ice. I was interested to see the results because I did not think the flame would be hot enough to cause damage to the frozen spiders. My concerns were unfounded as the ice quickly turned into steam once it came into contact with the flame. The spiders were also not spared either and were burnt in totality. "Let us go back to Orthon and share this strategy with your subordinates. This will be helpful I dealing with this numbers." I said. "Yes, that is less tiring than finding spiders individually." Zari answered.

"This is a very deep cave. Why does the queen of Spiders have to hide here if she is so powerful?" Eight asked. "Probably to lay eggs." Seven answered. At the same time Chrono and Zari were dealing with the frozen spiders, the vampires were on their way to wake the queen. The spiders that were appearing all over were woken from their slumber due to resonance with the Hydras presence. The queen had not yet awoken and her soldiers totaling over one thirty thousand who were guarding her were still hibernating. The soldier spiders were high level spiders spanning over fifteen meters in length and half as tall. In essence, they were comparable to a one storey building spanning fifteen meters in length and were over 30, 000 in total. Chrono had no way of knowing this but the worst was yet to come.
