Chapter 1 - The Beginning

"My name is Kyle and, what can I say? My life is the definition of shit…"

A young man stood on the edge of a bridge, typing a final message on his phone.

There was no doubt that this was a suicide letter but the question was, what had led Kyle to the decision to end it all?

"Damn it! Another shift?"

Kyle swore angrily, green eyes near lifeless, burdened with the stress of working an extra shift in a minimum wage paid job.

There was no doubt that this job was taking a toll on his body but unfortunately, this was something that he couldn't escape.

"Kyle, the boss wants you to close up!" John, the day shift cashier turned to Kyle, dangling the keys. As it was, Kyle had zoned out, regretting the choices he made to land him at this point of his life.

Seeing that his coworker wasn't responding, John pressed the store keys into Kyle's limp hand.

"I'll be going, then! Don't have too much fun…"

Kyle didn't find that funny. He was bone tired, but he couldn't complain because he was the one who asked for extra shifts to be given to him as he needed all the money he could gather. He'd thought about returning to school often, to complete his education and increase his chances of having a decent life even though he was in his mid-twenties.

The light faded outside, and Kyle sighed wearily as he turned on the store's security lights and took his post behind the register, mentally preparing himself for another draining night in a deserted store. They rarely, if ever, had customers and it would only be a matter of time before the store went bust.

Living in Los Angeles, the city of stars, meant that the cost of living was exceptionally high. It would be a miracle to see anything of real value around without breaking the bank, good things weren't designed for your everyday Joe.

Kyle sat, staring blankly at the door, and momentarily contemplated a bullet flying in and putting an end to his miserable life but the cackling thunder in the distance brought him back to reality as his thoughts were already entering dangerous territory.

Before he knew it, rain began to pour outside and Kyle realized at that moment that he had forgotten his umbrella at home.

The moment he realized this, he just began to laugh at how ridiculous it was. Fate really had it out for him.

This had to be something supernatural, there was no other explanation at this point.

"Zeus! Is that how you face me?!"

Kyle shouted at the top of his lungs, referencing one of his favorite games. As he was shouting, a customer walked in.

Kyle immediately shut his mouth as his

eyes settled on the person.

She was drenched from head to toe and probably entered the shop for shelter. She shook out her hair to dry it, and Kyle was amazed. She was stunning!L

She could be a supermodel, and considering this was Los Angeles, she probably was.

Kyle's eyes couldn't help but trace her figure in the form-fitting black dress she had on. She stood at the door for several minutes, shivering, her back turned to him.

In all the time she'd been there, she hadn't spoken a word in his direction.

Kyle didn't expect much from her because no one ever really took him seriously especially ladies as pretty as that.

He was tempted to ask her to get the fuck out, and he very well could. The camera in the store wasn't working but his boss left it there so it would deter theft.

But before he could speak, she began to walk around the shop like she got the memo.

All Kyle could see was more work because with each step she took, she dripped water all over the floor.

He was already overstretched and knew that his breaking point was just around the corner.

The lady walked through the aisle but she came out with a bunch of snacks and a pack of cigarettes that didn't even cost up to $15 but that was a decent amount.

Kyle didn't notice the bag hanging from her shoulder was custom Louis Vuitton. A glance at the price tag told him it cost more than his entire life savings but this was mainly because of the angle at which the label was tilted.

"That will be $15.56, ma'am," Kyle slapped a smile in his face, trying his best to give her the necessary respect a customer was entitled to.

"Here…" As she handed him her debit card, an alluring scent wafted into his nostrils. For her perfume to have survived that downpour, it must've been really strong. Dazed, Kyle searched her face, and unconsciously, his eyes dipped to her ample cleavage.

She drilled him with a look of disgust as he took the card but who could blame him?

She had basically shoved them right in his face.

Kyle averted his eyes and swiped it, it was normal that people didn't carry cash around with them.

Kyle handed her back her card but he knew that she wasn't going anywhere, the fact that they had yet to restock their umbrella display meant that they both had no otherchoice than to stay here.

"Um… Do you need a chair?"

Kyle offered, but immediately regretted it as she glared at him like it was forbidden to speak to her.

She brought out a cigarette and put it to her lips, blatantly ignoring the bold 'No Smoking' sign. The store stocked several flammable materials and Kyle wasn't about to let her burn the place down around them with her stupidity. It also wouldn't hurt if he managed to dent her pride a bit as well. It was clear that she was used to having her way as she lacked respect.

"You can't smoke in here, ma'am. I am afraid you'll have to put it out, or go outside," Kyle instructed her, pointing to the no smoking sign.

There was no way he would have known it, but this was the single moment that ultimately shaped Kyle's life.
