Chapter 29 - The Journey ( Part 18 )

Mrs. Sugeng during the ritual under the tree, she talked with Ki Jaka (the guardian of Mount Srinjani).

Ki Jaka knew everything that happened to them from the beginning.

At certain times, Ki Jaka could not show his form in front of Rico or even help, none other than the prohibition from King Tarumanagara, who asked not to get too involved in Amarpati's affairs.

Because this could endanger all of us.

The lives of the eight of us will be at stake.

Mrs. Sugeng looked worried, like a mother figure who is worried about her children.

Hasan and Laras asked permission to leave Mrs. Sugeng to continue climbing according to the orders that had been given.

And left the climbers who were with her earlier.

"Be careful, pray as much as possible, when you're done, come down quickly, we'll wait until tomorrow"

Said one of the climbers, named Rizal.

Anggun rubbed Laras' back and whispered, "Be careful" to Laras.

With a worried expression, Mrs. Sugeng clenched her hands and waved to them.

Hasan and Laras continued climbing towards the peak which was not too far from Post 5.

It only took 25 minutes to get there without a break.

Because they had started to reach the peak, the surrounding air was starting to get cold with quite strong winds.

Laras held her stick and walked trying to climb with a face that was starting to get cold.

Hasan began to show concern.

"Laras, are you cold? Do you want to wear my neck scarf?"

Hasan offered Laras a scarf to warm part of her face and neck.

Laras nodded and wore the scarf given by Hasan.

"Thank you, Hasan"

Hasan smiled thinly with trembling hands putting his scarf around Laras' neck.

Laras began to look comfortable and warm wearing the scarf.

The little attention that Hasan gave her began to open up the awkward attitude between them.

Without warning.

Suddenly Laras grabbed Hasan's hand and held it,

Hasan, who was embarrassed, felt his heart start to beat fast, and he never thought this would happen to him.

Laras..

Laras is holding my hand..

Hasan said in his heart with a small smile that adorned his face.

"Hasan, we have to get to the top quickly"

Laras began to walk quickly so that she could arrive and complete her ritual.

Accidentally, Hasan tripped over a small rock and almost fell.

Laras spontaneously grabbed his shoulder and hand.

"Be careful Hasan"

Hasan felt strange because Laras was in a hurry, which made Hasan almost fall.

However, the little attention that Laras gave outweighed the feeling of wrong that she did.

Hasan felt that Laras began to feel comfortable being near him.

"Just be careful, when you get home and go home, you'll change and not care anymore"

"My heart is broken, Ras. My heart is broken"

Hasan had started to imagine what would happen to them next.

The peak of Srinjani was starting to be visible from a distance.

They started to speed up their steps to get there.

However, scary things started to happen there.

At the ritual site that Mrs. Sugeng meant, which was right above the peak of Srinjani.

Marked by a small stone with writing in an incomprehensible language.

With a stick stuck there and a blue flag flying at the top.

Snakes..

Lots of snakes there, Hasan.

Small and medium-sized black snakes were seen gathering at the ritual site.

They seemed to be waiting for something they had been waiting for.

Laras and Hasan stepped back seeing this phenomenon.

They were scared by the snakes that were there.

"What should we do Hasan?"

Hasan was the only one who had to dare to face the swarm of snakes and immediately carried out the ritual until it was finished.

With fear, Hasan tried to muster up the courage to step toward the place where the ritual would be performed.

The sound of heavy footsteps attracted the attention of the snakes.

However, instead of approaching them, the snakes only watched them without moving or budging at all.

Laras, who was scared, walked slowly behind Hasan.

The snakes were behind the offerings that were already there, no one knew who had served them.

Hasan walked closer to where the offerings were, still staring at the snakes in front of him.

Laras sat beside Hasan with her head slightly lowered to avoid making eye contact with the snakes.

Hasan opened a plastic bag containing flowers given by Mrs. Sugeng.

Sitting with his legs crossed, he began to close his eyes and put his palms together.

While continuing to recite the mantra, Hasan muttered.

"Aing kadieu lain rek mere tumbal, Aing boga nu kawasa, beda jeung nu maneh sembah (I came here not to offer a sacrifice, I have a God, different from you inhabitants of this mountain who worship snakes and genies)"

Unexpectedly, one of the snakes began to move slowly towards them.

Laras, who was shocked to see the snake's movement, tried to back away with her hand still tightly holding Hasan's bag.

However, Hasan did not move an inch, he continued the ritual until it was finished.

Shhh (Snake's voice sticking out its tongue) Laras brought her lips closer, holding herself back from screaming.

Trying to pray in her heart by closing her eyes while continuing to mutter.

Hasan began to sprinkle the flowers towards the offerings and to one of the graves where Saracana was believed to be buried.

After the flowers were finished, then he poured the remaining water into his bag.

After finishing, Hasan grabbed Laras' hand and asked her to run if the snakes chased them.

They sighed.

And started walking away from the ritual site.

It is said that the ritual site was a ritual site where Amarpati always performed rituals for Saracana.

This story has become a legend passed down from generation to generation until now.

Because of the suspicion of the presence of snakes that were always waiting, there was a sign of Saracana's presence at the top of Srinjani.

Sure enough, the swarm of snakes advanced to chase them both.

As if angry because their wishes were not fulfilled.

The conditions they asked for were not fulfilled by Hasan and Laras.

Hasan and Laras ran carefully down the peak towards Post 5.

Fortunately, they both had a healthy and fit physical history because they often exercised.

So they didn't get tired in conditions like this, having to run far and with great strength.
