Chapter 4 - 4. The New Mission

Elliot arrived at his cluttered apartment in the bustling city of Caldora, ready to call it a day. He tossed the mysterious letter and package onto his desk, rubbing his tired eyes.

Elliot: "Let's see what kind of trouble you've brought me this time. Maybe it's a voucher for a lifetime supply of coffee."

He carefully opened the envelope, pulling out a letter written in elegant script. The message detailed an urgent delivery to Falconridge Village and hinted at a sensitive matter involving the kingdom's top officials.

Elliot: "Oh, great. A top-secret mission with no specifics. It's like they're trying to win the 'Most Vague Instructions' award."

Gathering Supplies:

Elliot headed to the local market to gather supplies. As he walked through the bustling stalls, he encountered a lively vendor named Tilly, who was selling an assortment of questionable potions and trinkets.

Tilly: "Looking for anything special today, dear? Maybe a potion to make your journey less... eventful?"

Elliot: "I'm just gathering supplies. Can you recommend something that won't explode in my bag?"

Tilly: "Ah, I have just the thing! This potion here will keep you awake for three days straight. Great for those long journeys—just don't plan on sleeping!"

Elliot: "Sounds perfect. I'll take it. If I can't sleep, at least I won't be bored."

He also picked up some rations, a map, and a compass from another vendor, who tried to sell him a "magical" compass that only pointed to the nearest bakery.

Vendor: "This here compass will guide you to the best pastries in town!"

Elliot: "That's not quite what I need, but it might be handy for a snack break."

The Journey Begins:

The next morning, Elliot set out for Falconridge Village, his satchel loaded with supplies and snacks. As he walked, he chatted with himself, trying to keep his spirits up.

Elliot: "Alright, Elliot. Another day, another potentially life-threatening delivery. Who knows? Maybe I'll become a hero after all."

As he trekked through the countryside, he encountered a group of mercenaries gathered around a campfire.

Mercenary 1: "Hey, what's a delivery guy doing out here? You lost or something?"

Elliot: "Not lost, just delivering. It's a pretty glamorous job—if you consider dodging goblins and surviving the occasional ambush glamorous."

Mercenary 2: "Well, be careful. This area's been crawling with bandits lately. They've got a knack for picking on solo travelers."

Elliot: "Thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to keep an eye out for them. Maybe I'll just hand them a letter and ask them to sign for it."

Encounter with a Merchant:

Further along the road, Elliot met a merchant named Grom, who was selling a variety of unusual items from a cart.

Grom: "Hello there! Fancy buying some magical artifacts? I've got enchanted boots that make you run faster, and potions that turn your hair into gold!"

Elliot: "Enchanted boots, huh? I could use something like that. Though, turning my hair into gold sounds like a great way to get robbed."

Grom: "Ah, you've got a point there. How about a protective charm then? It's guaranteed to keep you safe from curses."

Elliot: "I'll take it. At this point, I'll take any guarantee I can get."

Meeting Fellow Travelers:

As Elliot continued, he encountered a group of fellow travelers making their way to Falconridge.

Traveler 1: "Hey there! You're heading to Falconridge too?"

Elliot: "Yep, delivering a package and a letter. Nothing says 'fun' like a high-stakes delivery mission."

Traveler 2: "Good luck! Falconridge has been on edge lately. There's been talk of unrest in the village."

Elliot: "Just what I needed to hear. But hey, if things go south, at least I've got plenty of coffee to keep me awake!"

Checking the Stats Window:

As Elliot took a short rest by the side of the road, he decided to check his stats window to see if any improvements had been made since his last encounter.

Elliot focused and the translucent screen appeared in front of him, showing his updated stats.

Stat Window:

Name: Elliot

Gender: Male

Age: 21

Job: Delivery Man

Level: 3

Stats:

Strength: 7

Dexterity: 9

Endurance: 8

Agility: 5

Magic: 0

Efficient Delivery (Level 3) - Further enhances speed and accuracy in delivering items.

Stamina Boost (Level 1) - Increases endurance and reduces fatigue.

Elliot: "Well, I've leveled up! Look at me—getting stronger by delivering letters. Next thing you know, I'll be bench-pressing packages."

He noticed the new skill and decided to improve his stamina and agility rather than magic, feeling that it might be more useful for his current line of work.

Elliot: "Endurance and stamina it is. I mean, magic sounds cool and all, but if I'm going to be running all over the place, I'll need to keep up my energy."

Encounter with a Guardian:

As Elliot neared Falconridge Village, he was halted by a formidable guardian stationed at the entrance. The guardian was a tall, armored figure with a gruff demeanor.

Guardian: "Halt! Who goes there?"

Elliot: "Just a delivery guy with a package and a letter. I promise I'm not here to start a revolution."

Guardian: "A delivery man, you say? What's your business in Falconridge?"

Elliot showed the letter and explained his mission. The guardian scrutinized the documents with a critical eye.

Guardian: "Alright, you can pass. But be cautious. Things are tense around here."

Elliot: "Thanks! I'll keep my eyes open. And if anyone tries to start a revolution, I'll be sure to deliver the news promptly."

As Elliot walked past the guardian, he felt the weight of his task—and the potential seriousness of his mission. Unbeknownst to him, his seemingly mundane delivery was about to set off a chain of events with far-reaching consequences.
