Chapter 4 - 4

**Chapter 4: The Forgotten Temple**

The massive stone doors groaned open, revealing a long, shadowed corridor stretching into the unknown. Faint symbols flickered to life on the walls as the ancient structure awakened, their pale light casting eerie reflections against the stone. Kaine stood still, the **Shard of the Stone Titan** buzzing faintly in his hand, reacting to the surge of energy beyond the threshold.

"That doesn't sound promising," Rael muttered, stepping up beside Kaine, his war hammer resting casually on his shoulder. His voice, normally so full of bravado, was quieter now, and his eyes darted toward the darkness with unease.

Aira's hand rested lightly on one of her twin daggers, her gaze sharp. "It's not meant to be welcoming. This is a place the gods buried. Whatever's in there… it's something they didn't want released."

Kaine felt the weight of her words settle on his chest. The voice they had heard moments before—the whisper that had stirred something ancient—hadn't been hostile, but it wasn't friendly either. It was… expectant, as if waiting for something, or someone.

"Whatever's inside," Kaine said quietly, "we've come this far. We can't turn back now."

Rael chuckled, though the sound was hollow. "I wasn't planning on it."

Aira said nothing, but she gave Kaine a brief nod, her expression unreadable. Together, the three of them stepped through the threshold, into the depths of the forgotten temple.

The air inside was thick, stifling, carrying with it the weight of ages. Kaine could feel the tension in the air as though the place itself was watching them, waiting for their next move. The walls were lined with carvings—images of titans and gods, much like those on the doors, but here the scenes depicted chaos. Titans clashing with one another, gods watching from above, their faces impassive, while the world beneath them crumbled.

"What is this place?" Rael asked, his voice echoing slightly in the cavernous hallway.

"It's a tomb," Aira said softly, her eyes sweeping the carvings. "Or a prison."

Kaine's eyes lingered on one particular carving—a massive figure bound in chains, its face contorted in rage. It was a titan, larger than any they had encountered before, and above it, the gods stood with their hands raised, as if casting a spell of binding.

"Not just any titan," Kaine murmured, tracing the outline of the figure with his eyes. "This one was sealed away."

Aira stepped closer, her eyes narrowing. "The gods feared it."

Rael snorted. "If the gods feared it, that's a good sign we should be worried."

Kaine felt the **Shard of the Stone Titan** pulse in his hand, its resonance growing stronger with each step they took. The system interface flickered in his mind, as if trying to make sense of the energy flowing through the temple, but it was faint, almost confused. He had never seen the system react this way.

**[Warning: Unknown Entity Detected]**

Kaine stopped, the system's alert reverberating through his mind. He glanced at Aira and Rael, who had noticed his hesitation.

"What is it?" Aira asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"The system's picking something up," Kaine replied. "But it's not clear. Whatever's in here, the system doesn't recognize it fully. It's… ancient."

Rael tightened his grip on his hammer. "Ancient and dangerous. Just the way I like it."

Kaine wasn't so sure he shared Rael's enthusiasm. But they pressed on, the corridor growing narrower as they moved deeper into the temple. The faint light of the carvings flickered and dimmed, and soon they found themselves standing before another set of doors. These were smaller than the entrance, but they radiated power—ancient, untouched by time.

The system's interface pulsed again, this time more insistent.

**[Objective: Investigate the Sealed Chamber]**

Kaine stared at the doors, his hand tightening around the shard. He could feel it now, clearer than before—a presence beyond the doors, waiting for them. It was not the faint, whispering voice they had heard earlier, but something more. Something primal.

"We're not alone," Kaine said, his voice low.

Rael's grin widened. "Good. I was getting bored."

Aira, however, was tense, her eyes locked on the doors. "There's something… wrong about this place."

Kaine felt it too. The closer they got, the more it felt like the walls themselves were pressing in on them, as if the temple didn't want them to be here. But they couldn't turn back now.

He stepped forward and placed his hand on the doors.

The instant his hand touched the stone, the shard flared to life, its glow so bright that Kaine had to shield his eyes. The doors rumbled, shaking loose dust and debris from the ceiling above. For a moment, Kaine thought they might collapse entirely, but instead, the doors slowly began to part, opening into a vast, dark chamber.

A cold wind swept through the corridor, carrying with it the faint scent of something ancient and forgotten.

The chamber beyond was enormous, its walls lined with more of the same intricate carvings they had seen in the hallway, but here the carvings depicted a single figure—a titan, standing alone, towering over the world. Its eyes blazed with power, and around its feet lay the bodies of fallen gods.

Rael whistled softly. "Well, that's not ominous at all."

Aira's hand tightened on her dagger. "This is the titan the gods sealed away."

Kaine stepped into the chamber, the sound of his boots echoing off the distant walls. In the center of the room stood a massive stone altar, and upon it lay a large, dark crystal, pulsing with a faint, malevolent light.

**[Warning: Sealed Entity Detected]**

The system's voice was louder now, more urgent, but Kaine couldn't look away from the crystal. The air around it seemed to hum with power, and yet there was a sense of incompleteness about it, as though the crystal was waiting for something to awaken it.

"What is that?" Rael asked, his voice uncharacteristically quiet.

Kaine stepped closer, his eyes locked on the crystal. "It's the source of the resonance. The shard led us here."

Aira moved cautiously around the room, her eyes scanning every shadow, every corner. "Whatever that crystal is, it's holding something back. Something powerful."

Kaine reached out, his hand hovering just inches from the surface of the crystal. He could feel the energy radiating from it, calling to him, pulling him in. The system's interface flickered wildly, as if trying to make sense of the conflicting signals.

**[Warning: High-Risk Interaction]**

**[Warning: Entity is Unstable]**

"Wait," Aira said sharply. "We don't know what touching that thing will do."

Kaine hesitated. Aira was right, of course. But the shard in his hand pulsed, its energy aligning with the crystal. The resonance between the two was undeniable.

"I have to know," Kaine said, more to himself than to the others. "The system brought us here for a reason."

Before Aira could stop him, Kaine placed the **Shard of the Stone Titan** against the crystal.

The reaction was immediate.

The crystal flared to life, a blinding surge of light and energy exploding outward. Kaine was thrown backward, crashing into the stone floor. Rael and Aira were knocked off their feet as well, the sheer force of the explosion sending shockwaves through the chamber.

For a moment, Kaine's vision blurred, his ears ringing from the impact. He struggled to his feet, his body aching, but when he looked up, he froze.

The crystal was gone.

In its place stood a figure—a towering, humanoid form, wreathed in shadow and light, its eyes glowing with a malevolent fire. It stood tall and unyielding, its presence suffocating, and the very air around it seemed to warp and distort.

Kaine's heart pounded in his chest as the figure slowly turned its gaze toward him.

**"The gods may have forgotten me,"** the entity rumbled, its voice like grinding stone, **"but I have not forgotten them."**

Kaine took a step back, his mind racing. The system was silent now, offering no guidance, no strategies. He was on his own.

The titan had awakened.
