Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Artifact

---

After chatting for a while, we began exploring Bandung. Although the atmosphere felt fairly bright, my mind was filled with thoughts about how to utilize my powers as efficiently as possible without being discovered by anyone. I was still weak, so for now, I had to hide while gradually increasing my strength. I also started strategizing in my head about this. Just because my test results at the association were a bit poor, it didn't mean my stats weren't good. Even with the advanced association system now, they still couldn't see deeply into the player systems of others accurately. I felt safe because my skill "Surpassing Limits" was invisible.

While I was deep in thought, Faiz spoke to me.

"By the way, do you have any plans after this?" Faiz asked as we passed through the busy market.

Since we hadn't seen each other for a long time, we started wandering around Bandung together. I was even more surprised because Faiz now had a motorcycle, and it was a big one! The results of his work as a Hunter with a high rank were impressive!

"Not yet. For sure, I need to train harder. Maybe I could start by gathering some information about the dungeons that have appeared in this world," I replied.

"There are a lot of things I haven't learned since the world changed," I continued.

Faiz nodded. "That's important. Out there, there are many monsters that are much stronger, and our enemies aren't just monsters. We also need to be wary of other strong Awakened. You need to know who can be a friend and who can be an enemy. Not to mention the crazy players who exploit their awakening for evil; I hope you understand the world that's changed now."

"Yeah, I understand. I'm aware of my limits, and I'm pretty aware of my surroundings," I said.

"Just listen when someone gives you advice," Faiz replied.

"Alright, that's why I want to ask for your opinion. You're more experienced," I answered. "I know this is a silly question, but in this changed world, how do you distinguish between allies and enemies?"

"Sometimes it's tough, Than. But usually, people with the same goals who support each other will make good allies," Faiz explained. "Whereas those who are selfish and only care about themselves can become a threat."

That made sense. I realized that in this journey, building networks and relationships was essential. Maybe I needed to socialize more with other Awakened. But with whom? With my cleaning crew? They weren't high-level Awakened, and they had looked down on me before. But it was okay; there would definitely be a solution.

We continued our walk and stopped at a small café. While enjoying our coffee, I couldn't stop thinking about what I would do next. Every piece of information I gathered could be extremely valuable.

"So, have you heard about the guilds in Bandung?" Faiz asked.

"I have. I even work part-time in one of the guilds, cleaning up the remnants of dungeons that have already been conquered by the players," I replied.

"The one you mentioned in the chat, right? Oh, I thought you didn't know, but let me explain a bit more. Guilds are often places where Awakened gather. There, you can learn, train, and even take missions together. There are several well-known guilds, and they have strong leaders," Faiz clarified.

"Are there any guilds you recommend?" I asked.

"I've heard of the Guild "Shield of the Nation," also known as "Perisai Nusa." It's quite good. They focus on physical training. There's also "Celestial Heirloom," or "Pusaka Surgawi," which leans more towards magic. Actually, guilds don't focus on just one stat, but some are better known for their specific strengths, like the two I just mentioned. You might want to consider joining one," Faiz said.

"Sounds good. I'll check it out later," I replied. Maybe joining a guild could help me improve my skills and build a broader network. But that was quite dangerous considering my powers.

"Or why not join my guild? The name of my guild is "Holy Dharma," and it's one of the top guilds in Indonesia, even comparable to other top-class guilds worldwide. With my connections, I guarantee you will feel comfortable here," Faiz offered.

"Hmm, I think I'll pass for now. I don't want to be under someone's command just yet, but thanks for the offer," I replied.

"Oh, that's fine. If you change your mind, just let me know," Faiz said.

"Sure."

I started sipping the coffee I had ordered.

After finishing our coffee, we went outside and continued walking. I felt a new sense of enthusiasm, as if my steps were lighter. Watching the people around who were busy with their lives, I couldn't help but think about how different my life was now.

"Than, what are you thinking about?" Faiz broke the silence.

"Nothing, I'm just thinking about what potential I can achieve," I answered honestly. "Maybe this dream sounds impossible, but if I could, I want to become the strongest Awakened so that people won't ever underestimate me again."

Faiz smiled, "That's a great spirit, buddy. Enthusiasm is important, but remember, the process also needs to be followed. I believe you can do it, but don't rush it. Nothing is impossible; whatever happens, I will always be on your side."

"Yeah, I'll just work hard!" I said while nodding.

"Later, when I'm strong, I'll make you my right-hand man, okay?" I joked lightly.

"Come on, you've just awakened. Level up first before you think about making me your subordinate!" Faiz teased.

We both laughed together.

At that moment, my phone vibrated. I saw a message from a high school friend, Rina. "Lathan, how are you? We need to meet! I have something to discuss."

"Huh? Rina? What does she want?" I murmured.

"Who's that?" Faiz asked.

"My high school friend. It seems like she has something important to discuss," I replied.

"Then go meet her. Who knows, it could be important," Faiz suggested.

"Okay, I'll try to meet her later. Maybe she has some valuable information for me," I said with a small laugh.

After setting up a schedule with Rina, we continued exploring the city. Even with the unsatisfactory test results, I felt a new sense of hope arising. Every step I took brought me closer to my goal, even if the path ahead might be winding.

That evening, as we walked home, I realized that the challenges ahead weren't obstacles but opportunities for growth. With Faiz's support and the information I gained, I was confident I could face this changed world and all its mysteries.

After Faiz dropped me off, I immediately prepared to meet Rina. I was curious about what she wanted to discuss. Perhaps she had important information about dungeons or the new Awakened world.

At the café we agreed upon, I waited while contemplating how much my life had changed in such a short time. Rina arrived on time, her face bright, though there was a hint of worry in her eyes.

"Lathan, I'm so glad to see you!" she said, then sat across from me. "I heard you've awakened. That's amazing!"

"Yeah, but there's still a lot I need to learn," I replied while taking a sip of my coffee.

She nodded. "I have information that might help you. Since the world changed about 10 years ago, many Awakened have begun focusing on their own goals. Some have formed groups and guilds. They're not just hunting monsters but also searching for ancient artifacts and greater powers."

Her words piqued my interest even more. "Ancient artifacts? What do you know about them?"

*Ancient Artifacts*

After the world changed ten years ago, humanity faced various challenges and new opportunities due to the awakening of powers. This phenomenon not only created an apocalypse for human life but also opened up new opportunities such as ancient artifacts hidden in various places. These artifacts possess extraordinary powers that can change the fate of their users.

*Origins of Ancient Artifacts*

These ancient artifacts come from an era when magical power and technology were united. Hundreds of years before the awakening, many ancient civilizations created objects that could enhance individual abilities. When those civilizations fell, these artifacts spread across the world and were forgotten. After the changes occurred, these artifacts re-emerged, attracting the attention of ambitious Awakened individuals.

*Functions and Types of Artifacts*

Ancient artifacts have various functions depending on their origins and the powers contained within them. Some types of artifacts include:

1. Ability Enhancing Artifacts: These artifacts can enhance the physical strength, agility, or intelligence of their owners. For example, an ancient ring that can increase speed and reflexes.

2. Elemental Artifacts: Artifacts that contain specific elements (fire, water, earth, air) and allow their owners to control those elements in battle. An example is a staff that can summon storms.

3. Protective Artifacts: These items provide additional protection, such as a shield that can absorb enemy attacks or armor that increases the wearer's durability.

4. Healing Artifacts: Some artifacts possess powerful healing abilities, able to heal wounds or diseases instantly.

5. Knowledge Artifacts: Artifacts that store ancient information, providing their owners with knowledge about combat tactics, the world's history, or the locations of hidden dungeons.

The Impact of Artifacts on the Post-Awakening World With the emergence of ancient artifacts, the dynamics of the Awakened world have changed. Those who successfully discover and master these artifacts gain significant advantages in battles. However, this also triggers competition and conflict among the Awakened. Guilds and groups compete to seize these artifacts, leading to divisions among them.

Over time, the Awakened realize that these artifacts are not merely tools for personal power; they also carry responsibilities. Many strive to seek artifacts with the aim of protecting their loved ones or combating greater threats. However, some misuse the power of these artifacts for personal gain, creating new dangers in this already changed world.

In other words, ancient artifacts have become an integral part of a world that has transformed over the past ten years. They symbolize power and ambition, but they also signify responsibilities that each owner must bear. In the quest to discover and master artifacts, the Awakened face not only monsters and enemies but also moral and ethical challenges that will shape them into better or worse individuals.

"Oh, I forgot to mention earlier that the association also uses ancient artifacts as tools," Rina continued. "I've heard many rumors. Some artifacts can provide incredible power but can also attract the attention of irresponsible people. I've also heard about the guild 'True Castle.' They're famous for their artifact hunts and have successfully found several."

I frowned, "True Castle? Is that a safe guild?"

"Some say so, but many also say they're overly ambitious. They have clear goals, but not all of their members can be trusted," Rina said seriously. "You have to be careful."

I contemplated her words. Joining this guild might help me, but it also poses risks. However, if I could find an artifact to enhance my power, it could be very valuable.

"Alright, I'll think about it," I said. "Thank you, Rina. This information is very valuable."

"If you hadn't brought it up, I might have completely forgotten about it. Artifacts are rarely discussed in the media for some reason."

After our conversation, we returned to lighter topics. Rina started talking about her daily life after the Awakening. It turned out she was also learning to use her powers, although she was still in the early stages.

After some time, we parted ways. As I walked home, my mind was filled with the new information I had received. Joining a guild might be the next step, but I had to choose wisely.

When I got home, I sat at the table and began to plan my next moves. I needed to improve my abilities and learn more about the guilds and the artifacts out there. This decision could determine my future path.

"But that's quite risky..." I murmured.

I already possessed powers beyond human comprehension, "Transcending Limits." If I used it well, could I break free from my humanity and transcend to a higher dimension to meet the gods and cosmic beings of the upper dimension? Hmm, we'll see. I'm thinking this because I've read too many comics.

I lay down on my bed, and then I remembered something.

"Hey, I awakened just one day before my death... so tomorrow should be the day that tragedy occurs," I thought.

"Crap, if I'm not mistaken... we're going to clear a Rank D dungeon tomorrow, but that dungeon's rank suddenly changed to be much more dangerous, leading to our deaths..." I murmured.

"Ugh, I need to ask Boss Erwin to confirm."

I took my phone and began to call Boss Erwin. After a moment, he answered the phone.

"Hello? Why the sudden call?" replied the middle-aged man's voice.

"Boss, I want to ask... is there a dungeon raid tomorrow? And a dungeon cleanup?" I asked nervously.

"A dungeon? Of course there is, why?"

"If I may ask, what's the rank of the dungeon, Boss?" I inquired.

"Hmmm, if I'm not mistaken, there are five dungeons to be cleared and conquered... one Rank B dungeon, two Rank C dungeons, and one Rank E dungeon." he replied.

"…"

Wait? Why... why isn't there a Rank D raid dungeon?

Why... why has the future changed...?
