Chapter 3 - A gloomy morning

Finally Demian left his apartment, away from the old man who often relaxed in the guest chair near the administration of the apartment, for Demian that person was like an old guard dog and his attitude was resentful and annoying, but what else could he do? Demian clearly hated and resented the owner and his family but on the other hand he still depended on the apartment, fortunately for him the owner made concessions and was kind enough to let Demian live in his apartment even though Demian's belongings had to be confiscated.

The last thing Demian had was a dull cup of cracked porcelain this morning.

"I shouldn't have been late", he said after walking through the quiet street in front of the apartment, while looking at the public clock on the curb on the pedestrian sidewalk, it showed the number 08.49 in the morning.

Walking fast even though his stomach was not fully filled but his adrenaline clearly replaced the function of food energy in his body, his slightly pale and slightly gaunt face made him look like a tramp with pretty good clothes, his footsteps took him past the pedestrian corner then led to the free public bus station, not entirely free... Everyone must at least pay 1 dollar, fortunately Demian brought his money which was the result of borrowing from Eric, he sat at the bus stop while reaching into his pocket and looking at the contents.

There were only 2 dollars and 10 cents left.

He was getting sluggish but his adrenaline made him realize and stay conscious, "really the last day, do I have to end this?" he said.

The streets were not really quiet, a few sedan cars passed by at this station, this place was a suburban place that was better than where Demian lived, the bus stop where Demian waited was right next to the underpass, the place was really marginalized and only a few people lived here.

Lucky for him because he met a friend he could call familiar and lucky for him because Eric wanted to help him.

Not long after, in Demian's reverie, the city public bus arrived and from inside came Eric, "Ah my friend, how is your day" said Demian casually, although he knew that saying that would only make his friend annoyed but he was also clear that he was betting, he was determined to end this.

The money he got from Eric would be used to kill himself.

Eric reached into his pocket, took out his wallet and gave Demian 5 dollars without hesitation, "this week I get a bonus so at least I will share, don't worry, you are my friend so you will help me, oh yes, I heard that the food restaurant not far from my place needs one more employee for the operational staff in the back, how about it? Are you interested, if yes I will help you friend", Eric looks caring and kind to Demian, but back to Demian, Eric's attitude is no longer just a trap.

I don't know what happened to Demian.

Demian was a little hesitant to accept it but his actions said otherwise, "thanks friend, I'll go first" leaving Eric who also left from the bus stop to his apartment, Demian sat into the bus which only left him with the old driver but not as old as the man in the apartment earlier.

"I'm sorry sir, but I may have to go to a stop you're not going to, I know you well, would you like to come along?"

Demian was intercepted in front of the bus door, "Is it still close to block 27?, if yes I will still come", his expression seemed unconcerned but in his heart he was clearly getting annoyed and upset.

"I'm going to block 32 and it's only a few blocks away from 27."

Demian nodded clearly and then entered and paid 1 dollar as a fee, he chose the backmost seat, walking in the middle of a group of empty seats through the quiet public city bus that operated in the suburbs.

The bus walked leisurely through every turn and quiet street, slowly entering into more and more dense residential areas, Demian leaned against the glass of the bus, his face pressed tightly against the glass, the cold still clung to the glass and squeezed Demian as if the cold was piercing his skin.

Looking at the people who went to work and also the homeless on the sidelines, the people were neatly dressed in black suits and most of them had clean hair with their leather shoes that were also clean, but Demian clearly knew that they were just fake leather shoes, as he looked at some of the homeless people he passed, he felt a sense of irony, "they can still live even though they don't have a house, what am I? I have a house but want to die, my fate is worse than theirs, why am I sad".

Finally Demian arrived at the block 32 bus stop by circling the road to the block 26 bus stop, the bus stop was not much different from the bus stop where Demian was before, only it was better and there were more people waiting for him, "be careful son, who knows tomorrow you won't be able to go again like today, government policies related to public transportation contain price increases for fares for using public transportation", Demian clearly felt like being hit by a big rock falling from a mountain.

He thought suicide was the right way to end this.

"I can only thank you sir, maybe it's true that today is my last day using public transportation services."

The old man of the driver just silently stared at Demian who walked as if indifferent to the words, how the driver was familiar with such an attitude, it was not only Demian himself who acted like that, the average person with a slight mental disorder or someone who had severe and unbearable problems would definitely act like Demian.

The bus then left the block 32 bus stop while carrying the other passengers who had just entered.

Demian looked at the bus as it passed beside him, "Damn, everyone is such an asshole, want to fight but... Ugh damn if only I was like that novel character, why does fiction feel so beautiful and relaxing, if only I was the main character", he muttered while keeping his hands in his pants pockets.

Walking leisurely on a rather cold morning, crossing a rather crowded sidewalk with the attention of a shabby bum sitting on the edge of the sidewalk, "at least I'm not like that pathetic rat, but I'll also leave first, how ironic of me hehehe"
