"You have to go work as a secretary in Rivera Jewels." Her father said causing Amber to be taken aback.
Everyone in the city knew that Cortlandt Luster, her family's company and Rivera jewels were sworn enemies.
"W-why?" She managed to ask confused, she looked up and searched the face of her parents if they were joking, but sadly, they weren't.
"Mom, dad, I think that is going too far." Clara finally spoke lifting Amber from the floor.
'At least her sister sees it too.' Amber thought to herself with a sigh.
"We've made our decision." Her mother spoke this time around glaring down at Amber before speaking again.
"Except you want to be ousted from this household, such a giant debt at a young age, only shows your irresponsibility."
Downcasted, Amber could only bite her lips and look downwards.
This is all her parents thought of her, an irresponsible fellow, the only reason why she took the loan in the first place was to fund her college cause her parents refused to take on that task saying she wasn't worth it.
_______________________
Sighing, Amber laid on her bed looking at the ceiling with distress as she remembered the conversation that took place.
Her parents want to spy on Rivera Jewels and keep them updated on their dealings.
She would rather not do it, she believes fair competition is the best competition especially with the fact that Dante Rivera himself might have been the one that saved her tonight.
She caught sight of the Rivera's special family emblem on the car before running away.
Amber politely rejected her parents request asking them to reconsider but eventually they proposed to not only let her debt slide but pay it off for her.
If she refused to go, they had more than enough connection to pressure the loan sharks to collect her debt quicker.
Left with no choice, Amber agreed even though it was basically walking into fire.
THE NEXT DAY
Amber stared at the tall building taking in a deep breath as she tried to maintain her composure.
Stepping into the company she was mesmerized by the working environment and didn't look at where she was going unknowingly bumping into a hard wall.
"Ouch." She muttered looking forward only to knit her brows confused.
Since when did walls have buttons and such intricate design?
"Are you a staff here?" A cold voice asked causing Amber to jump backwards as she was finally able to see the person's face.
Damn was she short.
"I-i.I." Amber stuttered trying to explain with her heart rate increasing, her sweaty hands clasped each other as she tried to maintain her composure.
She was afraid of getting recognized even though her parents only went with her sister for public events, their resemblance might give it away.
"Speak up before I call security." The man demanded glaring at Amber through his glasses.
"I came here to apply for the position of the secretary of the CEO." Amber bit the bullet and spoke, looking at the floor to hide her nervousness.
She couldn't disappoint her parents, this is the only chance for her to do so.
"I don't need someone timid for the job thank you." The man said ready to walk off when he had unknowingly ticked off Amber.
"Who are you to decide without an interview?" She snapped pulling him back by the hand even though he hardly budged, her other hand clenched tightly into a fist as she screamed at herself asking what was she doing, plus the man was stronger than he looks.
"The CEO." Dante said looking at the little lady In front of him, wasn't she behaving like a turtle refusing to come out of her shell long ago?
Why the sudden burst of energy?
After a while he glanced at her hand and gently picked it away from his body.
"Oh." Amber murmured and bit her lip in shame, she dropped her hand, secretly pinching her thighs.
'Nice way to go Amber, it's your first day, and you're already getting on his bad side'
"I'm sorry if that came out rude." Amber immediately apologized, her heart beating faster than it should.
She didn't expect to meet the CEO directly, her parents as they said had already managed to bribe the interviewer successfully.
So no matter what, she was meant to get into the company, if she fucks this up her parents were definitely going to feed her to the sharks for sure.
Tilting his head sideways, Dante seized Amber up closely.
"What's your major?" He asked making Amber gulp as she immediately straightened her back.
"I studied Business administration, but I also design and learned some things to develop that skill too." She replied honestly, trying to avoid eye contact.
His cold blue eyes looked at her a certain spark of interest lighting up within him.
Maybe he should keep her around, who knows what might happen.
"I only asked for your major." Dante pointed out coldly while walking away causing Amber's heart to drop.
Seems she managed to piss him off after all, what is she going to do? Is she just meant to go home like this?
What will she tell her parents? Will they even try to understand her?
"What are you doing standing over there? I don't like sluggish people as staffs." Dante spoke up when he noticed Amber wasn't following him.
Seems he omitted the part she was hired, but it looked like she already got the message.
Amber's eyes immediately lit up as she sprinted forward to catch up to his long steps.
Her heart finally eased, and so did her worries, she got the job after all.
The bodyguards that were with Dante earlier exchanged glances before proceeding out, without the normal scrutiny and background check, hiring someone after asking just one question isn't something that their boss will do normally.
Maybe he desperately needed a secretary and decided to go for the bumpkin.
"This tab contains all what you need to know, currently we are heading for a meeting then a dinner party, you have exactly 45 minutes to memorize the contract, the client is an edgy one that picks on things easily, it's best to be prepared."
"Also, when you are hired alright but not as my secretary you need to be tested first before you can be qualified." He said handing her white tablet.
Amber collected the tablet staring at it with hesitation, opening this tablet means she has been given free access to all the information her family needs.
Is this really right?
