His sharp voice pierced through the air as he glared at me with anger swirling in the depths of his eyes. The look on his face was deadly, he looked as though he wanted me dead and buried 6 feet underground.
The cup of coffee he was once holding fell onto the ground with a loud thud, the liquid spilled from the cup, making a huge mess.
Before I knew it, he was marching towards me, closing the distance between us in a few large strides. He stood close to me, his face was now dangerously close to mine and I could see the moment when impulse clouded his judgement as he began shouting.
"What do you think you are doing? Why are you talking to Mr Cole?!" He raised his voice to yell at my face, his hand reaching up to shove me in my shoulder but my feet remained rooted to the ground and I didn't move a single inch.
"Why can't I be talking to him?" I challenged, as my eyes glistened with defiance.
Before I could say another word, Sam stepped forward to grab Blake by his shoulders and pulled him back, creating a distance between us.
"Hey, what are you doing man? Step away from her," he commanded, his tone filled with finality and there was this strict look plastered across his face as he tried to ease the situation but to no avail.
Blake clenched his jaws tightly and his fists were balled beside him, even his knuckles were starting to turn white. He turned to face Sam and they locked eyes.
"Mr Cole, don't believe a word this woman says," he snarled with a disdainful scorn as his voice trembled with rage. He snapped his head to meet my gaze and his eyes were filled with nothing but anger and resentment. The words that left his lips were dripping with accusation and a thick layer of venom that coated each and every single word. "She has something against me and she just wants to ruin my career and reputation!"
A puzzled look crossed Sam's face as his eyes darted between the both of us before our eyes met. "This is Blake? Your ex-husband?" He asked and I nodded in confirmation. "Look man, she was just trying to –"
I cut him off before he could finish his sentence, I glanced over at him, shaking my head slightly. "There's no need to explain to him, Sam. He wouldn't get it, he wouldn't believe you."
I turned back to meet Blake's intense gaze that was burning right through my skull. "What made you think that I was trying to ruin your career and reputation?" I questioned with a raised brow. "Why couldn't I be helping you? Why do you think that I am out to get you?"
He let out a loud scoff as he rolled his eyes in a dramatic manner. "You? Helping me?" He repeated crudely with an incredulous look that was stretched across his face. "I wasn't born yesterday, Aurelia Holt! I would know that you hate to see me become successful." He spat the words out like they were poison in his mouth.
A smirk tugged at the corners of my lips as my dark eyes danced with amusement. "No need to get all worked up," I taunted in a calm and unbothered tone, feigning innocence. "I was just trying to ask you a question."
He let out a breath, clicking his tongue in annoyance. "Don't pretend Aurelia," he hissed with anger as rage simmered beneath the surface of his skin. Soon, all sense of rationality was thrown right out of the window. "What did you tell him, huh?! Tell me!" He shrieked as he rushed forward to grab onto my neck, squeezing the sides of it and I could feel myself getting breathless with each passing second.
I reached up to try and tear his hands away from me, shoving against his tight hold on me, but unfortunately, my strength was no match to his. Alas, Sam had to be the one to pull him off me and I was gasping for air as soon as he released his grip on me.
"Are you crazy?!" Sam's voice boomed loudly, disbelief was written all over his face. "That's your ex-wife!" He reminded with wide eyes.
"So what?" Blake retorted in defiance, still unaware of the seriousness of his action and the consequence he was about to face. He glared at him with a fiery blaze swirling inside his eyes and he jutted his finger out to point at me. "She is up to no good!" He insisted with an adamant look etched onto his face.
I reached up and my fingers gently caressed my neck which must have been red with his finger marks as I could still feel the tightness from earlier. I looked up at him, putting on a pitiful look to make my act in front of Sam much more believable.
"I know you hate me but don't forget that I am still pregnant with your child," I reminded him as my gaze softened. "I told you back then, that I only wished you all the best. I didn't do anything at all," I declared and my voice faltered towards the end of the sentence.
There was a brief pause before he broke the silence.
"Don't bring the child into this," he warned as his voice dropped to a hush whisper as his eyes gleamed with a dangerous look. "You know exactly what you did. You are planning to ruin everything for me," he sneered.
Sam who had heard everything spoke up this time, his voice slicing through the tension that was already lingering in the air between us.
"She can't ruin anything now," he began as Blake turned to look at him with wide eyes as a tiny frown crept onto his face.
"What do you mean, sir?"
Sam looked at him with a cold expression, his tone filled with indifference. The next few words left the tip of his tongue as he declared without hesitation.
"You are fired, Blake."
