Third Person POV
Minutes earlier…
"Hey, son," Paula greeted as soon as she pushed the door open.
"What is it? I'm busy." Xavier snapped curtly with a frown resting between his brows as memories from last evening came rushing back into his mind. He barely looked up from his computer or spared his mother a glance.
She slowly approached him, walking over to stand at the edge of his desk.
"I just wanted to check in on you," she began, her voice dropping to a soft and gentle tone. "How are you doing? Is everything okay?" Her concerned voice reached his ears.
"I'm fine," he replied coldly with a distant look that was stretched across his face. He had finally looked up from the screen this time and they locked eyes. "Why are you asking anyway?"
There was a brief pause as she hesitated for a moment, struggling to find the words to say.
