Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Stop acting like a jerk!

I ignored him. "I'm just here to take my stuff and go," I deadpanned as I looked at him coldly.

"I tossed everything out. You can go search in the garbage bins if you want," he taunted as a low chuckle emerged from his lips.

"Why are you being a jerk, Blake? What did I ever do to you?"

He scoffed loudly in response. "What did you do? You should know that very well, Aurelia." I watched as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, flashing a familiar picture in my face.

It was a picture of Xavier and I walking up the steps at the City Hall holding hands. It was at this moment that realisation dawned upon me. It must be the guy who bumped into me earlier, he must be the one who took this picture to send it to Blake, no wonder I found him slightly familiar.

"You are cheating on me with this guy, aren't you?" He snarled angrily with gritted teeth. "You have just divorced me and the next day you are already trying to marry another man. Aren't you just quite the slut?" His voice shook with anger, an intense look in his eyes.

I looked at him with an unbothered expression, only a laugh left my lips which riled him up even further. Without a single warning, he grabbed me by my neck and slammed me against the door roughly. My back collided with the door and the back of my head hit the frame.

A yelp escaped my lips and he squeezed the sides of my throat even tighter than before.

"What's so funny? You better wipe that smirk off your face," he warned as his eyes glimmered with a dangerous look, it was like he wanted me dead.

I choked, trying desperately to catch my breath when a single name left my lips.

"Xavier!"

Xavier didn't waste any time. I could hear his footsteps as he came running over much faster than I had expected.

In the next second, Blake was pulled off of my body and I could finally catch my breath, inhaling and exhaling deeply as my heart pounded loudly against my chest. I watched with wide eyes as Xavier swung his clenched fist, striking Blake's jaw in an instant.

I swore I could practically hear the sound of Blake's jaw cracking as he stumbled back, almost falling over when he reached out to place his hand on the wall to steady himself. His thumb swiped across the corner of his bruised lips and his eyes glanced down to see the bright red blood that stained the tip of his finger.

He looked up and glared at Xavier, a fiery blaze burning in the depths of his eyes. Knowing Blake, he was ready to pounce on him at any given second now.

But as soon as he marched towards him, Xavier raised his arm again and Blake flinched involuntarily as he squeezed his eyes shut as if to brace for the impact that never came. His eyes slowly blinked open and the two men locked eyes, Xavier glaring at him as his features hardened.

"Don't you dare touch her like that again," Xavier demanded with a dark look etched onto his face. He held Blake by his collar, their faces dangerous close as he murmured the next few words. "Touch her again and I will send you straight to the ER," he warned, his hoarse voice heavy with a threat as his body loomed over him.

"Understood?" He sneered and Blake could only nod silently as he gulped audibly. It was only then did Xavier release his grip on him. "Good," he muttered as his lips curled upwards into a slight smile.

He turned to face me, a look of concern crossed his face for a fleeting moment as his gaze met mine. "Come on, let's get out of here," he said as he wrapped his fingers around my wrist and pulled me away, leaving a stunned Blake behind to watch our silhouette disappear around the corner.

"Are you okay?" He asked as soon as we got into the car. Worry and concern were swirling in his eyes as his eyes carefully examined my features and scanned for injuries or bruises.

"I'm okay," I replied after a while. "I just can't believe he threw away all of my things, he told me to get them in the bins behind," I mumbled under my breath, disbelief written all over my face.

A determined look was in his eyes. "I will get them back for you," he said. Before I could even open my mouth to say a single word, he uttered the next few words and left the car. "Wait here, I will be right back."

"How are you doing?" I heard Xavier's voice come from behind me and I tore my gaze away from all my things that were laid nicely on the table. I snapped my head around to match his gaze.

I let a smile grace my lips.

"I can't believe you got everything back…" I muttered. "Thanks for helping me get them and clean them."

A chuckle left his lips as he leaned against the door with his arms crossed over his chest. "Don't thank me, thank your ex-husband. I made him dig everything out of the bin," he confessed as a smirk tugged at the corners of his lips.

I laughed this time. "I wish I was there to witness that."

He laughed too, then silence stretched between us for a brief moment before he broke it.

"So…" his voice trailed off as his eyes swept across the spacious room. "How's the room? Everything okay for you?"

"Oh, it's more than okay. This room alone is bigger than my entire house," I joked. "When you said you had a spare room at your place, I wasn't exactly expecting a mansion. And that water fountain out front? The swimming pool on the rooftop? What exactly do you do for work?" I asked as curiosity burned inside of me and I looked at him with anticipation.

He simply smiled. "That's for you to find out."

I rolled my eyes. "Fine."

He was about to turn around and walk off when I called out to him.

"Xavier…"

"Hmm?"

"Good night," I muttered under my breath.

A slight smile graced his lips. "Nights, Aurelia."

The next morning, I woke up with a light headache as my alarm rang in my ears. I groaned loudly as I reached for my phone, turning off the alarm. I glanced over at the time. It was already 10am.

"Shit!" I cussed and quickly hopped out of my seat to freshen up before heading straight to the Lloyd's family mansion.

The door swung open and my mother greeted me at the door, her short light brown hair combed back neatly and pinned up. She was working at the Lloyd's family mansion as the head maid. She frowned at me.

"You are late, Aurelia."
