Chapter 15 - Braindead Move

Granted, it might not has been his best idea to fling the nightime orb at the first moving shadowy dark creature he sees.

On the bright side, the orb bonks the creature on the head with a soft thonk and rebounds back to him. It almost seems like a dual purpose item: To annoy the target and to ward off wraiths.

Rolling as vigorously as he can towards any and all direction as long as it is away, he is currently being chased by a creature that is practically oozing shadowy wisps from every pore of its body.

Tedior does get a good look at it when it twitches from the soft hit, slowly unfurling itself to three times his size, the surroundings gradually grows darker and darker. Air density gets heavier, then it gets harder to breathe. Each breath in, icy bone numbing chill as each inhale grows more and more painful.

It lets out a sudden sharp shrilling wheeze, raising his none existing goosebumps and hair. He trembles a little, not sure from fear or excitment.

Empty despairing eyes locks straight into his, gazing right into his soul, devouring his remaining sanity that he doesn't knows he still has.

Now though, when he shivers, it is a shiver of excitment from the thrill of impending doom.

It is with anticipation, he turns and bolts, fully confident that it will give chase.

Leap, tuck and roll. Just like he practises the day before. But this time, he is hugging onto his bag with pin.

Crash! Crack! Rustle!

Those are all the noises emitting from behind him. He thinks amusedly to himself what this scene would looks like from a larger species. Of a rolling caterpillar being chased by a tiny blob of wispy shadowy figure.

Must be hilarious.

Onto a more pressing though, why have the orbed nighlight not work? Does it needs a specific process to be used? Or maybe its not a wraith at all? If it is not a wraith, then will it die from physical means?

How then, should he deal with this glorious creature-or-wraith that seems to be gaining on him?

Tedior can feel it, the sharp wheezing sound. The relentless chase. The domineering aura. The rustling of leaves and demolishing of terrains that its mindlessly barreling through with a single minded focus.

Now, how shall he do this? It does not seems to be that intelligent with how it just started chasing him with no reason or whatsoever. Maybe he can use the pin.

While rolling is faster than normal travel, the downside of his spiralling view is detrimental.

He will have to do this in a split second.

The moment Tedior rolls to a bump that throws him upwards in midair, that precious one second he utilises to grasp onto any nearby stray leaf.

With the forward momentum he gains, he swings a complete 180 degress with the leaf as focal point, straight towards the vindictive barelling shadowy creature. Sliding out the pin, he smoothly stabs then clings onto its back. It jerks in surprised confusion before screeches in pain. Throwing Tedior around as he hangs on dearly, it thrashes about trying to remove him.

Actually, Tedior is hanging onto it effortlessly. After all, he has more than a dozen sticky legs. He snickers briefly from this realization.

This pin, as it turns out, is quite useful. He has been stabbing it repeatedly for the past 10 seconds yet the trashing creature shows no sign of stopping.

'Then what is with that screech of pain?'

Giving it one last stab he resheathe the pin then sinks his mandible into the reachable flesh.

Revolting, disgusting filth enters his mouth. The mandible is hastily removed. He chokes and gags from the taste whilst the creature doubles its effort in removing him.

Seeing the changes from it, he braces himself before once again digging his mandible back in. Tearing flesh after flesh, spitting spitefully each mouthful as far away as he can.

It screeches in pain, changes its tactic and starts barreling towards a direction. Where that is, only the creature knows.

Tedior continues on each mouthful at a time. Black tar like substance, oozing from each wounds he inflicted. Its disgusting.

'I need to thoroughly bleach my mouth later.'
