Chapter 14 - C:14

As the preparations continued in full swing, I found myself standing next to Elara, who was focused on carefully slicing herbs by the counter. Her usual serene composure was undisturbed, but there was an unmistakable gleam in her eyes, as if she was waiting for someone to stir up trouble.

I smirked, leaning against the counter with a casual air, and said, "So, how are you feeling after that passion-filled Elantra yesterday?"

Elara's hand paused mid-slice, and she slowly turned her head to face me, a sly grin already forming on her lips. "Oh, you mean the part where you couldn't get enough of me?" Her voice was soft, teasing, but her eyes sparkled with mischief.

I chuckled, taking a step closer, not willing to back down from her playful challenge. "You weren't complaining, if I remember correctly. In fact, you seemed quite... enthusiastic yourself."

Elara tilted her head, her grin widening. "Maybe. But then again, someone had to show you how it's done properly."

I laughed softly, shaking my head. "Is that what you think? Because from where I was standing, it looked like you were the one losing control."

Elara's cheeks flushed a light shade of pink, but she didn't falter. "Perhaps I did, but only because you surprised me." She leaned in slightly, her voice lowering as she continued, "You've changed, you know. Not just in strength, but in how you... connect. I can feel it."

Her words hit deeper than I had expected, and for a brief moment, the teasing nature of our conversation shifted to something more genuine. I met her gaze, holding it, feeling the weight of her words settle in.

"I have changed," I admitted, my voice quieter now, more serious. "And I'm glad that you feel it. I'm not the same person I used to be... and that's why I want to make things right. With you, with all of you."

Elara's eyes softened, and the teasing light in them flickered into something more tender. She reached out, brushing her fingers against my arm, a silent reassurance in her touch. "I've always known you had this side to you. It just took you a while to show it."

We stood there for a moment, the rest of the family bustling around us as if in a world of their own. But between us, there was a connection that words alone couldn't fully describe—a sense of trust and understanding that had been hard-earned.

And then, as if to break the spell, Elara's mischievous grin returned. "But that doesn't mean you're off the hook. I still expect you to prove yourself in the next Elantra."

I grinned, leaning in just enough to whisper, "Oh, don't worry. I'll more than prove myself."

Her laughter was soft, like the chiming of bells, and she playfully nudged me with her elbow. "Good. Because I plan on making it even more challenging next time."

The conversation between us returned to its light, teasing tone, but the undercurrent of something deeper remained. We both knew that things had shifted, and despite the playful banter, there was an unspoken promise between us that things would continue to grow stronger.

As the preparations continued, I caught sight of Aunt Nadia and Aunt Mira making their way toward me. Their usual elegant grace was accompanied by a mischievous glint in their eyes. I knew that look—they were about to stir up trouble. Both of them had been far too amused by the events of the previous day, and I braced myself for their teasing.

Nadia, with her dark pink hair elegantly swept up, was the first to speak. "So, we heard quite the... *commotion* last night." She paused dramatically, a playful smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. "Elara's voice carried all the way to the hall room."

Mira chimed in, her voice light and teasing. "It sounded like you were doing quite the job... a very thorough one at that." She gave a mock look of approval, her long pink hair swaying as she moved beside me.

I laughed, unable to help myself. "Is that so? I didn't realize our family had such excellent hearing." I met their teasing gaze with one of my own, raising an eyebrow. "Though I suppose it would be hard to miss."

Nadia crossed her arms, leaning in slightly. "Oh, it was hard to miss all right. But now that Elara's had her turn... it does raise the question." She trailed off, exchanging a glance with Mira, both of them smirking knowingly.

Mira, who had been quieter, finally stepped in. "When will you be performing Elantra with us?" Her voice was smooth and light, but her words carried a teasing weight. "After all, it seems you're in fine form these days."

I couldn't help but chuckle at their boldness. These two had never been shy about anything, and clearly, I wasn't going to get away without a bit of playful banter.

"I see," I replied, taking a moment to look between the two of them. "Well, I wouldn't want to leave anyone feeling left out, would I?"

Nadia's eyes lit up, and she laughed softly. "I should hope not. After all, we're family, aren't we? Sharing is caring."

Mira nudged me gently with her elbow. "And besides, we're patient. We've waited long enough." Her voice had a lilting tease to it, but her gaze was sharp with anticipation.

I gave them both a slow grin, leaning back slightly to enjoy the moment. "I'm sure I can find time for my aunts... though I hope you know, I don't do things halfway." I winked, watching as their expressions shifted from teasing to intrigued.

Nadia tilted her head, her lips curving into a grin. "Oh, we wouldn't expect anything less. You've certainly proven you can handle... intensity."

Mira added with a smirk, "But just to be clear, we'll be expecting a performance worthy of the Nightfall name. No holding back."

The lighthearted teasing continued between us, their playful banter met with my own. The air was filled with the charged energy of flirtation, though it was all in good fun. There was an unspoken understanding that, for all the teasing and humor, we shared a deep connection. They were family, after all, and this was just another way we communicated our bond.

Finally, I leaned in closer, dropping my voice to a low, suggestive tone. "When the time comes, I'll make sure neither of you are disappointed. But be careful what you wish for."

Nadia's eyes glinted with excitement. "Oh, we never wish for anything we can't handle."

Mira's laughter was soft, like the sound of wind through the trees. "We'll be looking forward to it, then."

With that, they both gave me a wink and sauntered off, leaving me with the distinct impression that this conversation was far from over. I watched them walk away their vuloptuous assets jiggling with every step they took, a smile tugging at my lips.
