Chapter 3 - 02: school days.

The doctor sed I'd survived with "minimal" injuries.

But the minimum sure hurt like the maximum, I had three broken ribs, a completely shattered left hand and a cracked forearm.

The doctor sed it would take three to six months for me to heal.

So yeah...

Mikoto drove me home and she made me diner, which is a nice change of pace for once sense I'm the one who usually cooks for her,

But...

How do I put this?...

Mikoto cooking is....

Terrible.

Absolutely terrible.

I'll leave it at that.

The next morning I went to school, nothing bad happened on the way there to make me late. So I actually made it pretty early.

I walked into my homeroom and took a seat all the way in the back near the window.

I sat down and set my backpack down and rested my head on my one good hand.

It was weird, usually I come in the middle of class, which usually gets me detention every three days. It's a miracle I haven't been expelled yet.

I looked around and saw my classmates all chatting about there plans for the weekend, me? I never have any plans.

Why?

Well having fun is a luxury I can't afford right now, I Looked out the window staring mindlessly the stop sigh near the entrance of the school.

"Sup nerd-"

I looked back to my right, and there walking up to my desk was a tall tan guy, he had slick back red-ish brown hair and amber eyes.

He wore a white long sleeve shirt and a pair of ripped up jeans, and old beat up sneakers.

"Sup lug." He smiled at me and we have each other a fistbumb.

This was Logan Black, he was my best friend and only friend in the past three years I was in high school. How can I describe him? He was an idiot, definitely.

But I know at the end of the day he had my back. We met on the first day of highschool when I was trying to stop a gang of bully's from picking on a guy, they ended up beating the crap out of me because I was outmatched. Four on one, yeah That's not an even match by a long shot, even with martial arts training, but Logan came up and tried to help me. He also got beat up pretty bad.

But after that we soon became friends.

"What happened to your arm? Let me guess you got hit by a truck after pushing a kid out of the way?"

"Well..."

"Dude, seriously? I swear it's like your obsessed with getting hurt helping people."

He sat down in his seat in front of me, sitting on his seat backwards.

"You know you could have told me, I would have visited you in the hospital."

"Sorry. Yesterday was hectic."

"It's all good, how long until your healed?"

"Three to six months."

"Damn"

There was a pause.

I looked out the window once more.

"So... Did you here about what's been happening all over old town?"

"What?"

"There's been a string of murders happening

Here, and the next district."

"What?"

I looked back at him.

"Yeah, my dad told me all about it, people have been finding dead body's all over with there necks sliced open and the guts ripped out, it looks like some kind of ritual or something... And the guy other then the whole sliced necks and ripped out guys thing, leaves behind no evidence, no fingerprints...

No Clue's, nothing. My dad and the other guys on the force are stund at how well this guy knows how to cover up his tracks."

I sat there in silence.

No Clue's, Not one, and this guy is out there killing people left and right.

Damn...

I...

I grinded my teeth.

If someone doesn't do something this guy will keep killing and killing and killing.

"Jack... What's wrong? You look really really pissed."

"I am."

There was a silence for a good ten seconds.

Then I heard someone speak up.

"Well, well, well... Look who finally decided to come to class on time for once."

A soft, high pitched feminine voice spoke up.

I turned my head, and there sitting on top of her desk was a girl with jet black hair and big ocean blue eyes, with a cute little button nose and pink puffy lips.

She wore a red sweater with a blue skirt and black thigh highs, she had black slippers as well and a white headband.

This was Lisa Elwood. she was the head of the student council, she was the top of all of her classes and she was a straight A student.

Not only that, but she was a star athlete on the girls track team.

She was also insanely popular, almost every boy in school wanted to date her, and all of them she rejected.

And all the girls wanted to be friends with her, yet she kept to herself, only acquainting herself with her fellow student council members, though she would always try and help out fellow students who she saw lagging behind on there study's, especially me for some reason, my grades were terrible.

And whenever she'd find out she'd give me a lecture as if she were my mother, that and also she'd always tease me.

Why? I don't know.

She got off her desk and walked over to me, crossing her arms. "Jack Turner, I've heard

You've been failing math, may I suggest you actually pay attention for-"

She stopped herself mid sentence, noticing

My cast. "Wait, what happened to your arm?"

"Oh... Um... I uh..."

"Jack got hit my a truck"

Logan spoke up.

"WHAT!?"

She suddenly got really close to my face, I didn't think she realized how close she was, I began to flush in my cheeks.

"HOW?! WHAT HAPPENED?! TELL ME?!"

"I- uh- um."

'she's so close.'

She suddenly stopped herself, the look of concern left her face, now she looked a bit more sturn, she placed her hands on her hips. "Oh I know what happened, let me guess you were day dreaming again like you usually do all the time huh?"

She pointed her finger in my face.

"Listen, I don't think you relise this, but you live in Philadelphia. One of the most dangerous city's in the country...

You got hit by a truck and you survived, but if your not to careful you might get yourself killed one day... And Jack, I've known you sense we were kids, if anything happened to you-"

She stopped herself mid sentence.

"Don't get the wrong idea, it's just...

I've known you sense we were kids. If anything happened to you, well...

Well I'd miss you."

I just looked at her for a second, then gave her a nod. "I'll try to be more careful next time Lisa."

"Good."

She gave me a smile and gracefully pulled out her chair and took a seat, flipping her hair and taking out her pen. "Now. I expect you to

Put in one hundred percent, you better or I'll have to punish you, ehehe~" she giggled.

I blushed a little.

"Y- yes ma'am."

'get your mind out of the gutter jack.'

I looked in front of me. Logan had been starring at me the whole time, smiling smugly.

"Stop starring you moron." I whisperd.

"Heh. Simp."

"Whatever."

He turned around and faced the teacher as he walked in. I let out a sigh and looked back at Lisa, man was she gorgeous, she was looked like an angel, she was smart, sophisticated, studious utterly feminine, and mysterious. Sometimes she'd leave school for weeks at a time and come back with all her school work done and then some.

She was undeniably beautiful, in fact she was always this beautiful.

Me and her had known each other sense we were ten, we'd play on the same playground and back then, almost all the boys would follow her around like a harem. I wouldn't however. I'd always keep to myself as a kid.

I'd just watch from a distance, but unlike everyone else at the playground she was the only one who'd be nice to me.

I never really knew why...

But man, she was always this...

Perfect, yeah. That's how I saw her.

Yep...

I had a crush.

I looked back out the window as the teacher went on about God knows what.

'man... I'm an idiot.'

* * *

After a few hours, lunch came around.

I got a fruit cup from the cafeteria and walked out into the courtyard of the school, I walked up to a bench. There sitting starring at his phone was Logan, staring mindlessly at his phone.

"Yo."

He looked up and gave me a grin.

"Hey."

I sat down and opened my fruit cup and began to munch on watermelon.

"That's all you got man?"

"Logan, all they got in that cafeteria is junk food. As a former fat kid I ain't gonna let anything like that enter my body again, not after all the crap I went through because of it. chicken nuggets, pizza, sweets are an absolute no. So yeah..."

"Geez... So all you eat is chicken breast and salad or something?"

"Pretty much... Well, there's one thing I can't give up-"

My mouth watered thinking about it.

"Cheesesteaks"

"Hypocrite."

"Shut up."

"Sooo..."

Logan began to grin, I know what he was about to bring up. "Don't even-"

"Yes ma'am! I'll do whatever you say mistress Lisa! Your the love of my life uwu!" He sed

In a mocking tone.

"Geez."

"Dude just ask her out already."

"Nope."

"Why? You know graduation is this year

You've had a crush on her for years and you haven't even tried to date her, or anyone-"

"Yeah so?"

"So what if you never see her again?"

"That's ok with me."

Of course I was trying to act cool, yeah.

I liked Lisa, but I knew that someone like her

Didn't belong with someone like me,

And not for the reason you'd think.

"Wha-? Man. I don't get you.... do you fear rejection? Because well... Your pretty handsome, no homo."

"Nope"

"Then what?"

I chose my words carefully.

"Well... I just, can't right now...

I have certain things I need to do and having a girlfriend would get in the way of that, and truth be told, I'm not in the right place anyway." I only told half of the reason why I didn't want a girlfriend.

"Alright man, you do you."

I ate some more watermelon as a brease blew past us. "So Logan, what do you wanna do after graduation?"

Logan took a minute to answer, probably trying to figure out what to say. "I have no idea, my dad wants me to join the academy to become a cop like him, but I can't see me doing that... Most likely I'll try and become a machanic or something... I know I'm not going to college, not just because of my bad grades. I just don't wanna-"

"Yeah, college is a joke."

"What about you? What are you gonna do after graduation?"

I put my fruit cup down and took in a deep breath. "Well I think maybe I'll become a cop myself, or a fire fighter... Maybe even join the army, I... Just wanna do something that makes a difference. You know?"

He let out a chuckle.

"Heh. That's just like you, you know jack-"

Logan sed with a grin.

"I've known you for the past three years, and in all that time all I've ever seen you do is go out of your way to help people... Even if it makes trouble for you, Jack how'd you end up this way?"

I took a moment to think about it.

Memories of that day came before me.

All the people I hurt.

All the mistakes I made.

And my grandpa's words echoing through my mind. Jack... If helping people is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

"Jack. You ok man? You look like you've seen a ghost." Logan sed with a look of concern.

"I'm fine. Um... I...."

I let out a bit of what was in my head.

"I'm not a good person Logan."

He tilted his head.

"Huh? What do you mean."

"Nevermind." I got up and threw away my fruit cup.

"I'll talk to you later."

I walked away from the bench, my hands in my pockets. "Hey! Wait!... Sigh see ya."

I'm not a good person, not in the slightest...

That's why I have to accomplish my dream.
