Chapter 8 - 007 · On Death Roll

"I've been dying to do that, you look absolutely hot now," she grinned.

"You're insane to do this at this moment," he giggled softly, against her lips, kissing her again, and still bending down for her, which helped her to surround her arms around his neck, so she could deepen the kiss.

"Fuck," she groaned under her breath, needing to breath again, "can this thing... kill us?"

"Yes," he hummed anxiously. "Both of us."

"Can we kill it?" She swallowed, shaking softly.

"I'll need you to cover me with your life force."

Blinking, she turned to him, "Why?"

"If I'm covered in your life force, I'll be able to use my shadow magic, and that's one of the only things that can kill these things, Mor," he whispered, passing his fingers through her hair, hating the moment but loving how smooth it was, he had always wanted to pass his hands on it.

"You want to fight that alone?" She hissed.

"My magic can,"

"I am strong, Ric, I can fight for us, your soul isn't full, I don't want you to risk what's left here to this," she clenched her jaw. "Absolutely not. We can use my time magic, I can't do much with it yet, I can't go back in time, but I can stop time and,"

"It's immune to all types of holy magic, Mor," he sighed. "Only dark magic work, some barely."

"I'll use my undoing then, it's a dark magic, and,"

"You can't control that," he held her shoulders, "you told me yourself that it hurts your soul when you use it, it's volatile, out of control, and it doesn't obey you. That kind of magic, right now, won't help, Mor, it'll put us both in danger."

She swallowed, hating it, feeling useless, "Eldric,"

He kissed her softy again, "I won't do it alone, it'll be us both, okay? Your will cover me in your life force and I'll use my shadows against it, it's the only way."

Another loud screech came, this time closer and both froze, her chest heaving in fear for both of them. "Where did this even come from?"

"The 9th pit of Tartarus in Hell," he whispered and the worse kind of shivers ran down her spine, "they obey higher orders from Hell, only one of the Seven Princes can control them. I... I fear that if they are here, they are after you, the same way they came for your family. That is, if I'm right."

"But why?" She cried almost soundlessly.

"I don't know, Mor, maybe your parents messed with one of the Princes, or they had something personal against your family. I... I don't know, I'm sorry."

She held onto him, "If they eat a soul, is it killed?"

"No, they are carriers of Hell, they steal souls and give it to their Lord, whoever the Prince of Hell who ordered them to be here is. They are known for their taste of collecting souls of those who mess with them and their plans," he huffed.

"How do you know all of that?" She groaned exasperated.

His eyes darkened, "My father was taken by one."

"Fuck," she cursed, then, feeling the beast closer, she covered him with her life force, focusing on drowning his 888 meridians with it, so he would be able to borrow her strength and use his abilities. "It's taking... it's taking too much," she cried under her breath as his body consumed more of her life force than she thought possible. "How... how can one take the... souls back?" She whispered, dazed.

"The only way is to steal it back from the Prince, if you manage to learn which one is after your neck," he groaned. "I'm sorry, Mor, my body needs too much magic to awaken, is a glitch in my bloodline."

"Will... this... work?" She struggled, holding onto his back, as he turned into the house and made her stay behind him.

"I hope so," as he said that, shadows danced in his hands, spreading up to his arms, marking glowing in his skin, under his shirt, which she recognized way too much. "Oh, I missed this."

"You... have... tattoos..." she whispered.

"Yes, I kinda do. It comes with the magic, it marks us, it's quite the dominant and possessive magic," sigh.

"He... has... them... too..."

"As expected," it was the last thing he said before the creature appeared twelve meters away from them, in the end of the hallways that went inside the dooming house. "Stay back, Mor."

Another bone-shivering loud screech came from the monster and when she peaked at it, behind Eldric, horror took over her very soul. It was more than five meters tall, with at least twenty thorn-full black legs like a spider's, its bottom was wide and large with a thick maroon skin, while it grew larger and higher on its broad torso that seemed muscled but was more like an armor skin than anything, going from maroon to black again, with four arms are each side that look like the tail of a scorpion. Going up to its huge angular head, its mouth opened in an 90° angle showing eight threads of shark teeth and a frighteningly long forked tongue, with a triangular hole where the nose should be, and more than a hundred black eyes.

When both stared at the monster, all they could feel was a sense of imminent death, more to her than him, as he was already dead for centuries. Morringan swallowed the scream that crawled up her throat and Eldric took a fighting stance. But the second she blinked, shadows spread through the entire house, blackening her view of everything, and though panic crawled up when he vanished from her front, she kept herself connected to him, giving him more of her life force, trusting him on this, even if she had a horrible feeling about this.

She fell to the ground, weaker at each second that he consumed her to protect them both, and though she tried to stand up, her legs were too faint for that, so, she stayed down, giving more, as much as necessary, anything if it meant keeping them both safe.

The soul eater screeched over and over again, so loud she felt like her ears could bleed at each second, but she held on, feeling that those screams were of it being hit by Eldric, who turned out to be destructively more powerful than she ever imagined. But fear took over her when a scream came from him and she felt a like it had scratched her very soul, not just him.

"Eldric," she called him, but her voice was so raspy, it was nearly gone, "Eldric," she cried for him, panic rising inside of her chest, eyes welling up. "Eldric!"

"I'm... sorry... Mor..." he said far from her, as if he was choking on something, "I... love... you..."

"Eldric," she tried to scream, but it was useless.

"Find... me... ...pride..." his voice was nearly impossible to be heard, but she was able to make those words.

As he vanished with the soul eater who took him away from her, Morringan lost her consciousness.
