3rd POV

"Dude seriously you let the knife go before your arm points at the ground not after"

Ava scrubbed her hand down her face as Sebastian pulled the knife out of the ground next to his foot. Sure everyone did that once or twice when learning, all the other rescues had done; it one or twice. Sebastian however had done it every single time.

"How do I put this, let go right as you flick your wrist, point, step, throw"

She demonstrated the motion slowly. Miming the throw.

Sebastian continued his attempts, the tips of his ears turning steadily more red as the knife kept landing blade down in the dirt.

"You're gonna lose a toe"

"I KNOW, I can't figure out how to teach him. Everyone else can at least move the knife forward"

Ava groaned not even glancing at Amelia as she walked past her and positioned herself on Sebastian's other side so she could watch him throw the knife.

"Again"

With a huff Sebastian grabbed the knife, Amelia took a step back and crossed her arms as she watched him. A muffled thud was heard as the knife landed straight into the ground yet again.

"Why is your arm so limp?"

"What?"

Sebastian looked confused.

"Wait what do you mean?"

Ava walked over and stood beside Amelia copying her crossed arms. She made a 'go on' gesture at the target and Sebastian grabbed the knife, irritation heavy in his movements as he yet again threw it straight at the ground.

His head snapped down in defeat as his whole body seemed to deflate.

"You're so right his arm is limp, how do you expect to throw without using your triceps?"

Ava gestured at his arm frantically, clearly exasperated even though it'd probably only been fifteen minutes since they started.

"Your arm looks like a dead fish flopping around"

Amelia deadpanned, she looked unimpressed but then again when didn't she.

"Okay, okay let's try this, show me the throwing motion without the knife slowly"

Sebastian complied taking a step forward with his left foot and pulling his arm back before pushing back forward.

"It's right there"

Amelia mumbled as Sebastian's elbow straightened out.

Ava hummed deep in thought.

"It is"

Walking forward Amelia pushed Sebastian's arm back up into the last part of the throwing position.

So that is was strait out in front of him.

"Use this"

She pinched the underside of his upper arm.

"You have to engage your triceps, letting your arm fall like this isn't enough momentum for any type of distance. Plus you keep waiting until your arm straightens to let go of the knife which isn't right either"

Ave was explaining as she manipulated the much larger boy's arm demonstrating how he in fact was not at all using his triceps.

"Throw again"

Ava scooped up the knife and handed it to Sebastian. Amelia chose to stand behind him, out of hitting range but still close. The boy took a deep breath and threw his arm forward.

"NOW"

Ava and Sebastian jumped at Amelia's yell and looked at her in confusion she just leaned to the left around Sebastian.

"I can't aim for you but you should know when to release the knife now"

Sebastian gave her an incredulous look, wondering what the heck her problem was until Ava started laughing. He whipped his head around to look at her. She was laughing so hard she couldn't say anything so she just pointed. He followed her finger and saw his target with a knife in it, granted it was just barely stuck to the wood on the very left side of the target but it was on the target and not in the ground.

"How did you even throw it hard enough"

At Ava's cackle he told another look and realized the knife was in the target butt first. He deflated again, sinking to the ground with a few embarrassed giggles as Amelia and Ava walked away.

"How we doing over here?"

Ava called as she walked over to Tiah and Mae, Amelia in tow.

"Well enough i guess, i've hit the target"

Tiah shrugged fiddling with a strip of fabric that had come loose from the handle of her knife.

"Did the knife stick in the target?"

Ava questioned squinting at the knife in her hands

"No, i don't think I have the arm for it yet, I definitely need practice"

"Well actually give me that first"

Sniping the knife Ava inspected it, Amelia did the same from over her shoulder.

"Mm looks dull"

Carefully Ava pulled the pad of her thumb down the blade gradually pressing harder as she realized how dull the knife was.

"Dang no wonder I don't think anyone could get this thing to stick anywhere"

"Probably not"

Amelia mumbled as she reached over and grabbed the knife. She repeated the same action pressing the knife against the pad of her thumb before abruptly flinging her arm up and sending the knife up into the bottom of the tree fifty feet above their heads.

"I'm not getting that down for you"

Ava huffed, an amused smirk on her features. This seems like something that's happened before.

"Would I do that if it wasn't gonna come back down?"

"You've done it before, one of them is still stuck in the underside of my balcony"

"Okay shut it that was one time"

The two girls playfully bickered back and forth lightly smacking each other.

"Just give it a second"

"It's still stuck"

As if on cue the knife dislodged and fell silently, Amelia caught the movement from the corner of her eye and caught the knife.

"I'll sharpen this, it's probably been a long time since it's been maintained. Especially since it's just been a practice knife for a while."

She transferred the knife from her right to her left hand and sheathed it in a knife holster that was concealed underneath the forearm guards she was wearing.

"We should find something for them to do, there's a lot of preparations we need to get going."

Amelia nodded as Ava spoke trying desperately to come up with something that wouldn't be super time consuming to explain but would be worthwhile for all five of the rescues to do.

"Oh you were gonna make stew today do we wanna have them prep the veggies?"

"Already done, that what I did after the tour I gave you"

"Shoot, what should we do then?"

"Oh you know what, the villagers taught Chris and I how to weave the nets for trapping. We should teach them and then have them make them, to prep for the hunt"

Ava nodded

"Great idea"

"Wait Amelia, what do you mean villagers?"

Tiah butted into the conversation, at some point Kailey and Taylor had wandered over to join the group, leaving Sebastian laying on the ground alone but he sat up intrigued at Tiahs question.

"Oh we didn't touch on the village."

Ave chuckled knowingly.

"Ugh not sure what you're so confused about, there's literally a whole village of people who escaped from the districts when they were just being formed."

Ava confirmed

"Yep there's more people"
