Tias POV

" ok, they still make you run a mile every week right?"

"uh yeah why" i questioned not expecting the question Scott had asked.

"Because we need to cover forty miles to get to our next site," Scott said like it was no big deal

"How far away are we from the place you live?" Sebastian piped up from the back of the group.

"Close to two hundred and seventy-seven miles, hence me asking if you still do the mile run". Scott kept walking giving no room for pause and not allowing any more questions.

Ten-hour time skip (they woke up at 8 so it's 6)

We had been walking for who knows how long (well scott might actually know) when scott stopped walking.

"Here we are"

"Um Scott, where is here?" Sebastian asked.

"Here of course" Scott motioned to a tree a few feet in front of him.

"That's a tree; an absolutely massive tree but still a tree" mae deadpanned

"What does a tre-"

"Quiet" Scott shushed us suddenly. He slowly pulled his backpack off his shoulder and carefully put it on the ground, before grabbing his spear, the two deep blue feathers on the top fluttering with the movement. (where was his spear i swear he didn't walk with it)

The air was tense as we all waited in anticipation for some big animal to jump out and attack us.

With no warning Scott whipped to the right and jumped backwards as a small knife flew through the air and landed in a tree a little ways away. Not even a second later a spear flew through the forest stabbing itself into the tree right next to scotts head.

"Alright i'll give it to ya, you were silent i thought i was about to get attacked until i heard your call" scott said as he stuck his spear into the ground and walked over to the tree that the knife had ended up in.

"Nice shot," Scott said as he pulled the knife out of the tree.

A backpack around a third the size of scotts came from the same direction as the spear and thudded to the ground. Scott walked back over and unzipped the bag.

"Clothes for tomorrow they are warmer'' he said.

Walking back to the trees where the bag had come from and leaning back into the tree where he had been when the spear was thrown.

"You gonna come down or are you in a bad mood like always?"

There was a few-second pause before someone dropped out of the tree they landed feet first crouching down and catching themselves with one hand to absorb the shock from the fall.

Not wasting a second they stood and marched over to Scott.

The attire and force making it took like they were going to kill him, but he didn't flinch much less move. Actually they weren't that intimidating when you realized they were quite short especially compared to Scott. He didn't even react when the person reached over his shoulder and ripped the spear out of the tree and snatched the throwing knife from his hand.

Scott sighed as he grabbed the figure by the shoulders and turned them towards the group and pulled their fluffy hood down.

"This is Amelia she's not as mean as she seems if you need something just ask one of us"

Amelia looked like she was going to rip Scott's head off as he introduced her. Her hair was in two braids, one section had some type of green cloth braided into it which acted as a hair tie at the bottom of the chocolate brown braids. She wore some kind of off-the-shoulder shirt that had a hood with fluffy cream trim details to match the green fabric and gold buttons. Underneath she wore a deep brown turtleneck and black ripped jeans with two knife holsters on her right leg. The arguably most eye-catching part was her left arm. She had some kind of guard one on her upper arm and another part that was on her forearm wrapped around her arm and had a small open section that went from her wrist all the way up to just below her elbow where you could see the straps. The gloves were also odd; they were finger-less and went halfway up the middle finger and thumb but the rest had no fingers.

Scott kept explaining how the night was going to go, talking about how we had to scale this giant tree to get to our next campsite which was not going over well with kaily.

"You want us to climb that"

"Yeah"

"With no safety gear"

"Yeah"

"What if we lose our footing"

"Amelia is coming up last for a reason"

"What if she can't catch us, she is literally half of sebastian's size, and-"

Kaily was cut off from her rainting by a sharp thwak sound, soon after another came and another and another.

Turning to my right I saw Amelia standing over a pile of what looked like giant porcupine spikes, as I watched her pick up a pair one in each hand and flung them at the tree. Both of the spines landed around a foot apart.

I looked down the tree and saw another pair of spikes and then a few more. I looked back up as Amelia threw a few more pairs of spines. She was making a ladder out of spines.

"Amelia this is why i brought you"

She ignored scott as she buissied herself tucking the rest of the spines behind her jacket.

"I'll be right back, i'll just finnish this ladder and roll out the other one".

I watched as she climbed the tree pulling out two more spines and sticking them in the tree before disappearing in the leaves.
