Chereads / abandoned control mage / Chapter 9 - setting sights upon the nest

Chapter 9 - setting sights upon the nest

the sky was alight with overlapping Colours shrouding my vision, the endless sky-blue of daylight and glaring white of sun-light clashed with the deep blue of mana and abyssal-black of the abyss snake that once communed with me. the contrast of such prominent colours lit up the area around me as chunks of semi-invisible mana dripped into the ground acting as snowflakes.

I stood there for a few minutes taking in the view. watching as the essence that was once a part of me covered the ground and skies around me. although out of my control the thought of my own power flooding the area like this filled me with a sense of power. "one day I too would be able to flood the landscapes with mana like this."

the scurrying of sharp footsteps woke me up as I watched this view. "that's right. the other creatures in this forest won't ignore this new paradise of exp created. the area should be swarming with life soon. I better get out of here".

Ali turned his back to the corpse pile and began to trek his way out. narrowly avoiding multiple groups of centipedes and ants that began to gather around. heading deeper into the glowing forest. he travelled this time for all but 15 minutes before coming across yet another dusk ant pack.

"this group only has 8 of them, I'll take them out" he had not forgotten his plan in this journey. to cement himself as the strongest human in this new world. and to level up even more.

"phew.. I must be close to levelling by now!! lets check"

"still over a thousand off, sigh one bull could level me up and maybe this stupid arm could heal finally. but can I handle another bull? or do I keep it safe here and fight lingering groups of Dust ants. it would take longer but.. its safer"

Ali took one more glance at the ant corpses around him. before deciding.

"yea I'm sticking with the ants. the bull is too dangerous. I don't feel much of a threat here. plus the bull lives near those centipedes and that 'bird' creature."

he stayed still relaxing for a few minutes longer before going out in search of more ant groups.

"ten, twelve even, give me some smaller groups. why is every ant-pack in 30's or above. wait. what do you even call a pack of ants. a horde?" pushing his way deeper into the forest while thinking. when suddenly he saw something which connected with words he heard earlier. "a nest.."

Infront of him was a large hill of life. bugs, nay dusk ants flooding out of every hole and gap of this hill and the hill itself was gigantic stretching hundreds of meters high, eclipsing the few tree's in the environment and towering tall.

"there must be millions.." Ali was stunned. the largest structure he had even seen towered Infront of his eyes with more life teeming from its pores than all lifeforms he'd even seen combined.

*clack clack*

turning his head a large dusk ant covered in wounds limped out the forest next to him, dragging something alongside it. "what is that".

as the large dusk ant crawled forwards Ali noticed the creature was missing 3 of its six legs, sawn or rather bitten right off as the severed corpse of a centipede was roughly dragged through the dirt and grime. the pooling blood leaked out by the ant and all manner of other disgusting things.

the sight of the two creatures was revolting yet enticing. for Although Ali knew the centipede was stronger than him, and whatever could kill a centipede even more so. the potential exp such a weakened beast could give was enthralling for the young Ali who couldn't even find prey for the last hour.

he set his sights upon the Dusk ant and prepared to cast his new spell. Ali hadn't used it against the previous ant's because of its long cooldown. but he needs to put this weakened ant down as soon as possible.

[abyss snake dart]

upon casting abyss snake dart the tattoo on his right forearm came to life, coiling around his wrist a few times before flying Infront of his face and transforming into a tiny dart barely 2cm's long and as thin as a needle before.. disappearing from vision.

*screeeeeech*

before even coming to terms with the abyss dart he quickly jumped back firing a arcane shot as he moved.

the giant ant immediately dropped the carcass before barrelling towards where Ali was.

"holy fuck he's fast" even with the 10% debuff the ant was still almost the speed of the bull and that's with three legs missing, two on its left side and one on its right.

"i need to break his third left leg" upon realising the creatures new weakness Ali moved his sights onto the ants last remaining left leg. hoping to stop its movement completely.

[arcane shot]

[-36]

the second arcane shot stabbed into the beasts mandible, snapping off a small portion and blunting it completely.

the creature was unfazed by the apparent damage it was taking and pushed closer. but Ali kept backing away keeping a stable distance from it while battering it with endless arcane shots.

[-36]

*snap* the third arcane shot collided fiercely with the joint in the beasts leg, napping it clean off and leaving the poor creature with but a mere stump on his left side.

the creature was dirt-bound. shoving its body through the thick grass and mud in a hopeless effort to reach the troublesome mage that hid from it even now.

*screeeee-*

before its death the Ant made a last roar. in hopelessness or just anger, ali did not know.

"die you stupid exp bank. give me all you have!"

"omg that guy was easy, and he gave a lot of exp. hopefully I can find more of them".

Taking one look at the shredded and mangled corpse of the Ant warrior who met a untimely demise at the hands of a hapless child, Ali turned his head and set out in search of similar exp banks.
