Chapter 56 - Expelling Everyone and Recruiting Tactics

Inside the Qingyuan County Constabulary

Su Hao sat in the pavilion in the courtyard, eating fruit bought by the constables from outside, looking relaxed.

In the small courtyard

Captain Wu's face showed disappointment. The current Su Hao didn't look like a constabulary chief at all, but rather like a young master from a wealthy family.

Although the previous chief, Wang Zhen, had sided with the county magistrate, he had done well in all aspects except for dealing with the blood-sucking demon.

Even though Third Young Master Su was the constabulary chief with all the power, Qingyuan County was still under the county magistrate's control. With Su Hao's current performance, could he be a match for the county magistrate? Such thoughts flashed through his mind.

Soon after Constable Liu Bin returned to the constabulary. Seeing Su Hao sitting in the pavilion, he immediately came forward to report.

"Chief Su, I've relayed your message to the three captains and posted notices informing the constables at the county office to assemble before noon."

"How did the three captains react?" Su Hao asked softly, spitting out a fruit pit.

"The three captains didn't have much reaction. Captain Wu Xun asked about the strength of your bodyguard. I told him I didn't know, and they didn't ask anything else, just let me return first."

Liu Bin briefly recounted what happened at the county office.

Su Hao looked up at the sky, noting there were less than two hours until noon, and said in a deep voice:

"It seems they don't plan to come!"

Logically, after Liu Bin's notification, they should have come immediately to report. But Liu Bin had returned, and the three captains hadn't shown up, indicating they didn't take him seriously as the chief.

"Captain Wu, have someone prepare a list of constables. Before noon, cross off anyone who doesn't show up at the constabulary. Draft documents and post notices to expel them all from the Qingyuan County Constabulary."

Su Hao said casually.

"Chief Su, are you sure about this? If we do this, the constabulary might be paralyzed."

Captain Wu stepped forward worriedly upon hearing Su Hao's words.

"I believe if the constabulary's men don't obey my orders as chief, how is that different from being paralyzed?"

"Besides, three-legged toads are hard to find, but aren't two-legged people easy to find? Liu Bin, if no one shows up by noon, post notices to recruit constables from the entire county!"

Su Hao said coldly.

"Chief, in Qingyuan County, the county magistrate has all the power. I'm afraid we won't be able to recruit anyone for the constabulary."

"I'll consider that. Don't worry, Captain Wu."

Su Hao said in a deep voice.

On this matter, Su Hao didn't need to care about anyone's opinions.

In this small Qingyuan County, no one could intimidate him. If the county magistrate dared to openly oppose him, Su Hao would find a way to eliminate him.

"Su Yuan, go with Captain Wu to the archives room and bring me the files on the blood-sucking demon. I want to take a look!"

Su Hao then instructed Su Yuan.

He currently had two tasks: establishing authority and investigating the blood-sucking demon to prevent further crimes.

So he decided to first familiarize himself with the demon's files to see if he could find any clues.

After all, as a 21st-century intellectual, he should be able to discover something.

"Chief, the files on the blood-sucking demon cases are in my office. I'll bring them over shortly!"

Hearing Su Hao ask for the blood demon files, Captain Wu's face lit up, and he quickly said.

He had been following this case continuously, and although he hadn't found any clues, he never gave up.

"Good, then Captain Wu, please bring the blood-sucking demon files to my office!"

Su Hao nodded, then walked towards his office.

Soon after Su Yuan brought in the blood demon files.

"Su Neng, how's the residence situation?" Su Hao asked. "Su Neng bought a small house not far from the constabulary. He's already arranged for people to clean it up. Once it's ready, young master, you can move in."

Su Yuan said with a bow.

"You and Su Neng should also join the constabulary when the time comes. With your abilities, I can directly give you captain positions!"

Su Hao said to Su Yuan.

"We will serve the young master with unwavering loyalty until death."

Su Yuan hurriedly replied.

"You may go now. Come back to call me at noon!" Su Hao waved his hand, then picked up the files on the blood-sucking demon.

An hour and a half later Su Hao put down the blood demon case files, his eyes narrowed, his face full of frost.

Rubbing his head, he half-reclined on the long chair, his mind reviewing the information about the blood-sucking demon.

This blood demon appeared about five years ago.

Each time it struck, it would drain the blood from several living people, initially targeting young women.

But in the past year or two, as young women in the county town became scarcer, the blood-sucking demon started draining ordinary women, though in larger numbers compared to young women.

"Based on the case information, this blood-sucking demon should be within Qingyuan County town!"

Su Hao thought to himself. "However, this blood-sucking demon case should have exceeded the capabilities of the Qingyuan County Constabulary. Why didn't the previous chief, Wang Zhen, report it to the Fu City Constabulary and seek support?"

Su Hao had a doubt in his mind.

"It seems he must have known something, otherwise he wouldn't have just cold-shouldered this matter. This Wang Zhen truly deserves death."

Su Hao cursed inwardly.

Regardless of Wang Zhen's reasons for concealing this matter, allowing so many women to lose their lives was unforgivable.

"The blood-sucking demon's crime scenes!"

Su Hao's eyes suddenly narrowed, and he took out a map of Qingyuan County.

He circled all the locations where the blood-sucking demon had committed crimes over the years, but after marking these case locations, his expression became grave.

Because all these cases occurred in locations radiating outward from the county office as the center.

"At that time, Wang Zhen used the excuse of protecting the county office to move the constabulary personnel into the county office."

Su Hao muttered.

"Perhaps that blood-sucking demon is within the county office."

Su Hao's eyes lit up.

"It seems after we finish with the constabulary matters, we should meet this County Magistrate."

A cold smile appeared on Su Hao's lips.

Knock! Knock! At this moment, a knocking sound was heard at the door.

"Come in!"

Su Hao tidied up the files on the desk and let the person enter.

Su Yuan, Captain Wu, and his apprentice Liu Bin, the three of them walked in.

Captain Wu looked unhappy, Liu Bin seemed excited, while only Su Yuan appeared calm.

"Chief, none of the constables from the county office came to assemble!"

Captain Wu said in a deep voice. "They didn't come? Then seal the prepared documents, post the notices, and expel all these people from the constabulary!"

"Liu Bin, when you go to post the notices, also tell the constables in the agency that if they can introduce people to the constabulary, once recruited, for a Human Realm Third Level warrior, there's a reward of 5 taels of silver; for a Human Realm Fourth Level warrior, 10 taels of silver, and so on. For introducing a Earth Realm warrior, the reward is 100 taels of silver. These rewards will come from my personal funds. We're looking to recruit about 70 people."

"The constables recruited this way can also introduce others, with the same rewards."

Su Hao then said.

People from the 21st century have many ideas.

"Ah!"

Hearing Su Hao's words, both Captain Wu and Liu Bin's faces lit up with joy. Su Hao's rewards were so generous that all the constables in the agency would surely be motivated.

"Chief Su, I'll go announce this right away!"

Liu Bin quickly walked out of the room.

In his heart, he was already calculating: introducing one Human Realm Fourth Level warrior would earn him 10 taels of silver.

His monthly salary was only 20 taels, so this was an unexpected windfall. He had to tell everyone as soon as possible.
