Chapter 4 - Just That Casual

"I'm not in the mood at all. Who cares about drinking?"

Su Hao's previously good mood had been ruined by the news of Gu Xi'er's return. Now he just wanted to go home and stay there, avoiding that nasty woman.

Of course, the main reason was that he couldn't beat her.

"Boss, why are you so afraid of my cousin? You weren't scared before. Did something happen between you two that I don't know about?" Gu Huai asked curiously, with a mischievous grin.

Although Su Hao used to be weaker than his cousin, Gu Huai had never seen Su Hao so afraid of her. But for some reason, things had suddenly changed.

"You just had to ask, didn't you?"

Seeing the chubby guy's sly smile, Su Hao's mood worsened. He immediately smacked Gu Huai's head twice.

Gu Huai quickly covered his head and said nothing more, but he was even more puzzled. His boss seemed to become very agitated at the mere mention of his cousin. Fearing another beating, he decided not to ask further.

"Boss, if you're not going, I'll head back first. Otherwise, my cousin will definitely guess that I came to warn you!"

Seeing that Su Hao wasn't in the mood for drinking and was preparing to return to the Su mansion, the chubby guy also prepared to leave.

"You go back first. If there's any news, you must let me know in advance!"

Su Hao nodded and instructed.

"Don't worry, Boss. I'll keep a close eye on things!"

The chubby guy patted his chest, promising. Then Su Hao had the carriage stop, and Gu Huai got off and left.

Su Hao then told Su Ping to drive the carriage back to the Su mansion. At this stage, only the Su mansion was safest.

In a pavilion within the Gu family's large courtyard in Fucheng City

An 18-year-old girl with delicate features, a slender figure, and skin as white as snow stood there. She wore a long white dress embroidered with clouds, her long legs straight and slender. In her delicate hand, she held an exquisite long sword.

She is a Gu Xi'er, the one Su Hao and Gu Huai had been talking about.

Behind her stood two women, one wearing a white robe and the other a purple robe. They were in their early thirties but still retained their charm.

"Aunt Qing, how's your investigation into the cause of Constable Wang Tong's death?" Gu Xi'er's gentle voice carried a hint of coolness.

Hearing Gu Xi'er's question, the woman in the purple robe behind her spoke:

"Xi'er, this case of Wang Tong's murder is a bit unusual. I examined Wang Tong's body, and he seems to have died from the Blood Demon Palm technique."

The other woman in the white robe's expression became a bit solemn.

"Blood Demon Palm? Isn't that a technique the Blood Demon Cult specializes in? Could Wang Tong's death be related to the Blood Demon Cult? But the Blood Demon Cult is a major evil sect from the south. Why would they target a deputy chief of a small city's constabulary?"

The woman in the white robe looked puzzled.

"Whether it's the Blood Demon Cult or not, since we've accepted the task from the Capture Agency, we need to complete it. Moreover, if it really is the Blood Demon Cult, we should teach them a lesson and let them know that this is Green Wood Sword Sect's territory."

A cold light flashed in Gu Xi'er's eyes.

"To avoid any accidents, Aunt Zi, you and Aunt Qing should investigate this matter together!"

"Alright, we'll continue our investigation now!"

The two women bowed slightly and left the pavilion.

After they left

A hint of tenderness appeared on Gu Xi'er's usually calm face.

"I might as well take this opportunity to see Su Hao. It's been a while since I last saw him."

As she said this, Gu Xi'er's face showed a slight blush and shyness.

Meanwhile

Su Hao had already returned to the Su family mansion

The Su family was Fucheng City's premier family, and their mansion was enormous. When Su Hao entered the compound, it felt like stepping into an ancient estate. Although he had memories of it, his eyes couldn't help but look around.

"Congratulations on becoming the constabulary's deputy chief, young master!"

While Su Hao was observing the courtyard, the Su mansion's servants saw Su Hao's attire and immediately came forward to congratulate him.

Su Hao responded cheerfully.

"Young master, you're back. The master is waiting for you in his study."

Just as Su Hao was feeling happy, the Su family's butler, Uncle Han, came to Su Hao and bowed, saying.

"Father is waiting for me? Then let's go over. But Uncle Han, what does Father want to see me about?"

Su Hao instinctively paused his smile and asked naturally, with a hint of surprise.

Among the father's three sons, Su Hao was the least ambitious, but he was the most beloved.

"Young master, you've been appointed as Fucheng City's constabulary deputy chief today. The master is pleased and is waiting for you in his study. He probably has some instructions for you."

Butler Uncle Han replied softly.

"Alright!"

Su Hao nodded and followed Uncle Han to the study of the Su family's master.

In the Su family study

"I wonder if it's too early to let Hao take on the position of deputy chief of the constabulary now?"

Su Ming held a confidential paper in his hand, muttering to himself.

"But the third son has a chance to become the commander of the Northwestern Prefecture's Capture Agency this year. If we wait until then to let Hao enter the constabulary, people will talk."

Su Ming's hand moved slightly, and the confidential paper in his hand instantly turned to shreds, scattering on the ground.

At this moment

Uncle Han brought Su Hao into Su Ming's study.

"How was your first day at the constabulary? Do you need us to assign a skilled bodyguard to accompany you? Putting you in the constabulary was your third uncle's idea. He's likely to become the Northwestern Prefecture's commander this year, and it wouldn't be appropriate for you to join then."

When Su Ming saw Su Hao, a smile appeared on his face.

Although this son was a bit of a playboy, he had never done anything too outrageous and was quite likable, so they doted on him the most.

"Father, you said third uncle is going to become the commander of the Northwestern Prefecture's Capture Agency? That's truly becoming a high-ranking official."

Su Hao hadn't expected this to be the reason he had become the constabulary's deputy chief now.

"Yes, so you just need to bide your time in the constabulary. By the beginning of next year, you can become part of the Northwestern Prefecture's Capture Agency."

Su Ming said happily.

"Dad, I don't want to go to the Capture Agency. I just want to stay in Fucheng City!"

Su Hao had no intention of going to the Capture Agency. He hoped to stay in Fucheng City and be a rich young master with no worries about food or drink.

"How can a man of ambition be content with the status quo? Can't you learn from your two older brothers and bring glory to our Su family?"

Su Ming said sternly.

"Master, the young master just doesn't want to leave you."

Uncle Han quickly interjected to help.

"Uncle Han, don't speak for this boy. He just wants to be a second-generation heir in Fucheng City. Uncle Han, go arrange dinner and ask the madam to join us."

Su Ming felt a sense of disappointment.

"Yes, master. I'll go arrange it now."

Uncle Han bowed and left the study.

After Uncle Han left.

"Dad, I've obtained a treasure, a 300-year-old Dragon Spirit Ginseng!"

Su Hao suddenly whispered mysteriously in Su Ming's ear.

He knew that his two older brothers were at the ninth level of the Human Realm and needed such a Dragon Spirit Ginseng, so he prepared to bring it out.

"What? You said a 300-year-old Dragon Spirit Ginseng?"

Su Ming's expression was shocked, but his voice was unusually low. His eyes looked at Su Hao with disbelief.

"Yes, Dad. Wait, I'll go get it for you now."

Seeing his father's disbelieving expression, Su Hao immediately went out to fetch the Dragon Spirit Ginseng.

"I'll wait for you here!"

Su Ming had originally wanted to go with Su Hao but then realized it wasn't appropriate, so he let Su Hao bring the Dragon Spirit Ginseng to him.

Su Hao left the study and went straight to his room.

He found a casual wooden box, took the Dragon Spirit Ginseng out of his inventory, put it in the box, and then immediately returned to the study.

He casually handed the box to his father, Su Ming.

"Dad, see for yourself!"

Su Ming took the wooden box and gently opened it. His eyes immediately focused on the dragon-shaped ginseng inside the box. The Dragon Spirit Ginseng emitted traces of dragon essence, and Su Ming's expression became excited. He quickly closed the lid.

This Dragon Spirit Ginseng was like timely rain because Su Hao's two older brothers had recently reached the ninth level of the Human Realm, but breaking through to the Earth Realm would take a long time—one year, two years, or even three years.

Now, with this Dragon Spirit Ginseng, if refined into a pill, it should allow both of them to break through to the Earth Realm within this year.

"Where did you get this from?"

Su Ming asked curiously, as this was indeed a treasure.

"I forgot. I met an old man on the road before, gave him some silver, and he ended up giving me this broken wooden box. The day before yesterday, I opened the box out of boredom and discovered this."

Su Hao said casually.
