Chapter 15 - Do you even care?

DIV's POV

I suddenly wake up from my beauty sleep, My instincts are screaming—something isn't right. My senses go into overdrive, picking up on an invisible danger.

I reach for my Glock. Wait… where are my guns? did I forget to get them yesterday?! Shit! Guess I'll have to do this the old-fashioned way.

Slowly, I creep into the living room, scanning for any sign of the fucker who got in my house. Nothing. Absolutely fucking nothing. Am I losing my mind? I'm already insane but not this insane! Who the fuck comes in my house in the middle of the to kill or rob me anyway. I should just go to-

Swish.

I freeze as I feel warm liquid aka my own fucking blood trickle down my neck. Looking down,I see a sword thrust straight through my throat.

"Ahh—" My scream is cut short—literally—as the blade moves upward, slicing my head cleanly in two.

Wait. How am I still…

Narrative POV

Poof. Div's lifeless body collapses to the ground, blood pooling from the gory wound where his head once was.

"I got him." A-1 reports, his tone flat as he observes Div's unmoving form. "He's not regenerating."

"Are you sure?" E-1's voice crackles over the comms, skeptical.

"Positive—" Before A-1 can finish, Div's body twitches violently. With a sudden burst of energy, Div comes back to life, his foot connecting with A-1 in a devastating kick that sends him hurtling through the bathroom wall.

"Nope, never mind. He's alive." A-1 mutters, emerging from the wreckage with an annoyed expression.

"Keep him contained until his regeneration slows down."

"Not sending anyone in?"

"Relax. If things go south, the others are standing by. Besides, I need my data."

"Fuck you." A-1 grumbles, cutting communication. He turns back to Div, who is now fully healed but looks wilder, more feral.

Drawing two Desert Eagles from the shadows, A-1 opens fire. Div dodges the initial barrage with surprising agility, but one bullet finds its mark, striking him in the head. Div stumbles back, only to retaliate with a powerful kick that sends A-1 crashing into the wall.

Div rises again, faster this time, and closes the distance between them in a blink. A-1 narrowly evades his punch, which lands with such force that it creates a shockwave, demolishing part of the house.

Taking advantage of Div's momentary vulnerability, A-1 fires again, unloading bullets into Div's brain and sending him back. Yet, with every injury, Div's regeneration gets batter at adapting, his wounds closing faster and faster.

"E-1, something's wrong." A-1 reports, his tone unusually urgent. "The more I damage him, the faster he regenerates. He's adapting."

"Adapting?" E-1's voice is laced with fascination. "Incredible. Get out of there. I'll send V-1 to burn him out."

"Got it."

Before Div can attack again, A-1 melts into the shadows and vanishes. Div looks around, confused, only to feel an intense wave of heat surging through the house. Flames engulf everything, including him. With a inhuman roar, he crashes through the damaged walls and escapes hell, his body already regenerating the charred flesh.

Outside, bullets rain down on Div, each one ripping chunks out of his body. But his regeneration works overtime, knitting him back together almost instantly. Driven by primal fury, he charges toward the first thing he sees and it's non other then V-1 and quickly runs to him with inhuman speed.

V-1 stands his ground, crossing his arms in an X-shaped block. Div, his body now grotesquely mutated with extra muscle and bone, punches V-1 with inhuman strength, sending him flying through several houses.

"WHAT THE FUCK?!" S-1, firing from the sky, exclaims, dumbfounded by how V-1 the vanguard was send flying.

Div doesn't stop. In a flash, he's on top of V-1, who is still buried in rubble. With relentless fury, Div pummels V-1, each blow leaving a dent in his armor-like body.

"Now." E-1 commands. V-1's body begins to radiate intense heat, melting Div's hands as they make contact.

With a sharp, inhuman scream, Div leaps back, only to find himself face-to-face with A-1. Emerging from the shadows, A-1 wields a specially designed sword meant to cut any bones or muscles. In one perfect motion, he slices Div cleanly in half and dodges the ensuing blast of white fire that vaporizes what's left of Div's body.

A-1 swiftly catches Div's head and seals it in a black containment box engineered by E-1.

"We got him," A-1 announces. "Happy now?"

"Thrilled," E-1 responds with a grin. "This kid is extraordinary. Even in that box, designed to halt regeneration, he's still regenerating. Fascinating."

"Doesn't that mean he'll escape?" V-1 asks.

"Not exactly. The confined space limits his ability to regenerate fully. It's more of a stalemate."

"And the casualties?" S-1 interjects.

"Twenty-six dead," E-1 replies. "V-1's landing destroyed ten houses."

S-1 falls silent, turning off his comms.

"Don't worry. He'll get over it." E-1 says with a cheeky smile.

With a weary sigh, V-1 places a hand on A-1, and the two vanish into the shadows.
