JUN'S POV

I meet Hong's glare head-on. "Yes, it's true," I admit, my voice steady. "I confessed my feelings to her. But she rejected me, called me a man-child, said no sensible woman would ever want me. She told me women prefer men like my brothers, and I was nothing compared to them. Those were her exact words."

"True. True. True" she parrots.

"Hong, please, stop," Zeng urges, pulling at her arm, but she yanks free.

"It's also true that I was around after she rejected me. But not because I had some malicious intent—I was dejected and heartbroken, but I cared about her. I was just… watching over my best friend. Tell me, Hong, did I ever do anything to make you feel unsafe or uncomfortable during that time?"

She's silent, lips pressed together, refusing to answer. Of course, now she won't admit the truth.
