Chapter 15 - Mass Summoning

It had been several months since Kayl had completed the first of many quests that allowed his settlement to grow. In that time, he had overseen the construction of thick stone walls that now encircled the town. Though the walls weren't perfect—some areas still required reinforcement and minor repairs—the difference was stark. Where once a simple wooden palisade had stood, now stone towers and walls provided a real defense, complete with a walkway for archers to patrol.

From atop the walls, Kayl watched his settlement bustle with life. The sounds of hammers ringing, people chatting, and the steady flow of trade and labor filled the air. The Marketplace, a key reward from his last quest, had been built at the center of town, and traders had begun passing through, bringing much-needed goods and information from the surrounding lands. Ordinary survivors had flocked to the settlement, many of them without notable skills but eager to work. The town was growing, and with it, so were Kayl's responsibilities.

Completion of Quests and New Funds

Kayl opened his system interface, reviewing the quests he had completed in the last few weeks. He had been steadily working through tasks that rewarded him with valuable gold, silver, and resources. Every quest he completed brought new possibilities for expansion, and his coffers were finally filling up.

Quests Completed:

• Defensive Infrastructure II: Completed

• Town Expansion I: Completed

• Marketplace Development: Completed

Total Rewards: 500 Silver, 5 Gold, Blueprint for Siege Workshop, Unlock: Crossbowmen Unit.

Kayl smiled at the sight of the rewards. The Siege Workshop would be an important addition, allowing them to craft defensive siege equipment if the need arose. The Crossbowmen would bring greater ranged firepower to his military forces, and the funds he had accumulated were enough to make his next big move.

With the newfound wealth from the quests, Kayl had decided to invest in a semi-mass summoning. He needed more workers to keep up with the rapid expansion, but he also needed more troops to defend the growing town. The Xavarian Empire and Varnorian Dominion loomed ever closer on the horizon, and if his settlement was discovered by either of those powerful factions, he needed to be prepared.

The Mass Summoning

Kayl gathered Duran, Tessa, and Rael in the center of the town, the same place where his initial summons had begun. Today, though, would be different. Today, the town would grow exponentially.

"I've completed enough quests and gathered enough resources to make a major move," Kayl explained, his tone serious but filled with anticipation. "With the stone walls nearly finished and the town expanding, it's time to summon the labor and soldiers we need to truly secure our future."

Duran's eyes gleamed with approval. "More soldiers will give us the edge we need. We've built a solid defense, but without the manpower to defend it, it's just walls."

Tessa, now fully entrenched in her role as Master of Scouts and Archers, grinned. "And more archers will make sure those walls are well-guarded. We've had to rotate shifts far too often, and with more patrols, we'll be able to spot any threats long before they get close."

Rael, as always, was focused on logistics. "It sounds like a smart move, Kayl. More peasants will keep the manual labor going—building, farming, and handling the day-to-day operations. We're growing fast, and we need hands to match the pace."

Kayl nodded. "Exactly. I'll be summoning a large number of peasants and soldiers today. This is the start of something bigger."

He opened the system interface and selected the units he needed.

Summon Units:

• Peasants x100

• Swordsmen x200

• Spearmen x200

• Archers x150

The sheer scale of the summon was larger than anything he had attempted before, but the system assured him that it would work. The resources he had accumulated were enough to cover the cost, and with the town expanding, it was time to take the leap.

Kayl activated the summoning.

The Arrival of New Forces

A brilliant flash of light filled the square, followed by a shimmering glow as the newly summoned units materialized. 100 peasants stood in simple work clothes, carrying tools for labor—axes, hammers, and farming equipment. They were ready to contribute immediately, setting off toward their assigned tasks as Rael began directing them.

Behind the peasants stood the 200 Swordsmen and 200 Spearmen—a disciplined force clad in steel and carrying their respective weapons. These soldiers were battle-ready, their eyes sharp and their stances solid. Duran stepped forward to inspect them, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.

"They look good," Duran said, his voice filled with approval. "With this many, we'll be able to defend the walls and patrol the surrounding area without stretching ourselves too thin."

Finally, the 150 Archers materialized, each carrying longbows and quivers of arrows. They quickly fell into formation, their eyes trained and ready. Tessa moved among them, offering quiet instructions and guiding them toward their new posts atop the stone walls.

Kayl watched as the new forces integrated into the town's routine. The peasants immediately got to work, joining Elara's builders in continuing the construction of new housing and finishing the stone walls. Meanwhile, the Swordsmen, Spearmen, and Archers took up their positions along the defenses, strengthening the town's military presence.

The Completion of the Stone Wall

Over the next few days, the settlement's transformation was astonishing. The stone wall now stood tall and proud, circling the entire perimeter of the town. Though some sections were still rough and in need of further reinforcement, the difference between the wooden palisade they once had and the stone fortification now in place was staggering.

Along the top of the wall, a walkway had been built, allowing archers to patrol and keep watch over the surrounding land. The walkways were still narrow in some places, and Elara's builders continued to widen and reinforce them, but for now, they provided a solid defensive position.

Kayl stood atop the wall one afternoon, watching as the new peasants worked below, hauling stone and building new structures, while the soldiers patrolled the perimeter. His town was booming, and with the addition of these new forces, they were in a stronger position than ever before.

But even as he admired their progress, Kayl knew there was still much to do. The stone walls were sturdy, but they weren't yet impregnable. He needed to continue reinforcing them and expanding the town's infrastructure. There were also whispers of larger threats on the horizon—the Xavarians and the Varnorians were expanding, and it was only a matter of time before they came across his town.

Looking Toward the Future

As the sun set over the town, Kayl felt a sense of accomplishment, but also a deep sense of responsibility. His settlement had grown into something more—a burgeoning town, filled with people relying on him for protection and guidance. With the newly summoned forces and the completion of the stone wall, they were well on their way to becoming a true power in this world.

But the challenges ahead were growing just as quickly as the town. Kayl knew that the world outside their walls was still dangerous, and larger empires would soon take notice of their expansion.

He closed the system interface, satisfied with their progress for now but ready to take the next step.

"We've come a long way," Kayl whispered to himself. "But the real test is still ahead."
